In the years after Empress Fuca's death, Ling Fei eventually became favored. It obviously wasn't just because of beauty. Ling Fei most likely had a personality and bearing that combined well with the Emperor's own.

Words like "favorite" are so lacking and misunderstood. Unfortunately, too many people base their opinion on watching TV dramas. While no one can say with any absolute certainty, let's take a quick look at facts about what is known. The first Queen was surely very important to the Emperor's heart. Unlike the drama, he knew her while growing up and grieved for her for many years after she died, even writing extensive poetry about her. Ling Fei was also highly important to him. If she had not been a Han, she would have been made an Empress while still alive. Her bearing six live births and having at least 2 other miscarriages tells us more than the dramas ever will.

This video is contradictory at times. You said the Empress son had priority, yet we know Yongi actually got the priority and not 12th prince.if Yongi lived and Xian didn’t cut her hair, 12th prince still wouldn’t have gotten the crown prince title because we know Qianlong already had 5th prince as his priority . When Fucca had her 2 sons it was very clear from birth that they were considered crown prince’s without a doubt but he did not do the same for Xian’s son(12 prince) so it doesn’t make any sense that he wasn’t chosen because of what Xian did. Why was Qianlong hesitant for so many years when he wasn’t hesitant with Empress Fucca’s sons? That is one of the reasons why I personally believe that Qianlong not naming 12th prince crown prince plays a factor in the downhill relationship with Xian as any woman would feel some type of way about their legitimate partner showing clear distinction between his previous marriage and the present marriage not to mention the hundreds of longing poetry he was writing for Fuca which makes it 💯 clear He Was Not In love with Xian, regardless of how Ruyi’s writers tried to portray because none of it is adding up

NGL if any of the women resembled these women in Qianlong dynasty then I’m sorry but it’s fair to understand that he wouldn’t be physically attracted to most of them to even give them the opportunity to fall mentally in love. Just being honest

While the life of a concubine of the Chinese Emperor was a very privileged life in many ways, it was also a very dangerous life. If a concubine lost the Emperor's favor, her life would become miserable very quickly...

Many Qing policy is very advanced in system, we don't have reason to hate them that much when the previous dynasty is more worst. Also, many people things become a maid mean being a slave, that's wrong, Ling fei never be a slave and her father is imperial household which is government worker.

In Chinese tv dramas, the costumes never look authentic... often you can see that the embroideries are machine-made or printed with too modern designs... This especially refers to the male actors... The robes of the emperor, the officials and the eunuchs are more like theater costumes with weird looking dragon patterns. The women are with make-up much too modern and with full lipstick... during the Qing Dynasty, women usually wore only a red dot on their lips... Until now, and also unmatched, are the most authentic realistic costumes, outfits and makeup in the movie "The Last Emperor"... However, this was probably the most complex and expensive to produce...and it was filmed on original location in Beijing`s Forbidden City and not the Film studio in southern China

That’s a very good question. They were a minority elite that used Chinese servants to rule the country. Eventually, over generations, they got better at the Chinese language and would assimilate to the local culture.

So sad that the first form of foot binding started w/the Later Tang. It seems that the earlier & prevalent foot binding types were more akin to tightly wrapping feet but not unrealistically warping the shape. The women had weak feet & other issues but could probably still walk normally. One has to wonder who in the Qing era came up w/the horrific deformed 3 inch lotus idea.

his part of history shocks me sm esp growing up as a kid hearing abt many stories like this emperors negligence and overindulgence wished ppl knew more bc there’s sm in volume and stories abt not only this one traumatic event he was such a complex person it’s intriguing to see the variance of emperors and thinking personalities and perspectives on top of that all the drama inside the court esp his favored concubines wrongfully executing a mistaken concubine makes me thankful to be born in the 21sf century when she was killed by slow slicing ……

Something new I learn of this Muslim consort. Lady from Xinxiang. So, consort Xiang renamed to Rong. Islamic powers had many cultured people and well-respected. Admiral Cheng Ho was a reliable man nominated by the Ming Emperor for the massive sea explorations.

I feel like Cixi was murdered as well. Her intention was to control Puyi and still be the ruler. I think she was poisoned because everyone from officials to eunuchs wanted everything because they knew that the Dynasty was coming to and end.

There are records about making Ling emperial Nobel Ling, there’s records that he chose Ling’s son secretly because he was very hard working even though he wasn’t the most intelligent, it’s very clear that he did not love the step empress and she had difficulty dealing with it which is not uncommon or unusual, these people were human beings with real emotions, lots of people blame the emperor as if he went into their homes and took these women, what about their parents? Weren’t they responsible for their daughters? They literally traded their own daughters for a little power and people are acting as if the Emperor has the capacity to be inlove with 20-30-50 women at the same time 🙄 most of these girls were pressured by their families to do extremes to gain favour from the Emperor just to strengthen their family names, imagine if the Emperor was any of you here son or brother with scheming women trying to gain power by any means necessary because of family pressure. Imagine being responsible for a nation of people, the pressure and responsibilities that a ruler carries. Of course every single person deserves to be loved by the man or woman they are committed to but sadly in a time and situation as they were in , it was impossible end of story, let’s just appreciate that things has changed for the better for us women almost everywhere on the planet and hope that it will for all women on the entire planet soon because some women are still living like this without a choice.🌸

She was my favorite in Ruyi and also one of my favorites in Yanxi Palace. She was portrayed as smart and cunning in both dramas and despite her being a villain, I liked her better than Ruyi. Kinda sad how her arc was destroyed in Ruyi to further Consort Ling's character to establish Ling as the new ultimate villain. Still, an amazing video! Well done!

Definitely you can feel the love they both carried for one another. But Qianlong being the Emperor and not a servant forgot about his deep love for her at some point. He got wrapped up in too many things. So I agree there are so many things that had happened that pointed him to still loving her. Also for me him destroying everything was love. Cause traditional she would have also been buried with him so that they can come back together in another life. But he saw all the signs after that Ruyi did not want to be in the palace again for herself and her ancestors. It isn't easy being in any part involved with the palace whether eunuch , lady in waiting, concubine, noble consort or even empress. So he gave her an opportunity to have a different kind of life when she returns. Where she can be loved and love with out the heavy duty drama of the palace. From poisoning, gossiping, treating one another with so much hate. So the emperor loved her enough to let her go so she can be happy.
