I love Gojira, but to be fair, there's not that many known or even popular French metal bands. Also, Gojira are lefty and into all kinds of activism, and just super popular by their own merit right now, so it was an easy choice. I remember seeing them open up for behemoth at a small venue like in 2007 to headline the Mexico metal fest last year and now opening the freaking Olympics wow! 👏 🤘

Otherwise, just a question about what you say about the US, and the size of the country and the huge differences between states. American black metal is probably the only sub genre that Americans will suck flag for... They're proud of the dozen that are actually killer and lauded in Europe and globally.
That's true. For the longest time American black metal was just American dudes trying to sound like their Scandinavian heroes (And that's true for a lot of other countries as well), but here lately we've gotten some black metal bands with uniquely American sounds and it's kind of exciting.
@@heavymetalphilosophy Yep, definitely Leviathan, Xasthur, Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch, Inquisition (though some would disagree even though they reside in the capital, maybe a bit contentious to claim as your own)... Some other mention worthy acts but it's not an encyclopedic list. Von is the only band I can think of that go way back. Got to give props to Panopticon for that bizarre blend of Appalachian mountain 'shine evil and BM. Seems to have taken a long time for the US to warm to the ugliness of second wave bands. It's hard to tell being an outsider but it still seems to struggle to get recognition in the States.

Gojira has been one of my favorite bands for over 10 years now and this was epic! If this was happening here it would have been Taylor Swift or some other pop garbage! All nations have their divisions. The Olympics are an international event, so everyone rallies around nation. I doubt that Americans are any different. The Superbowl is a national event. It's like comparing the FIFA World Cup to Ligue 1: for the former, all the people from France are equally French; for the latter, screw those guys from Marseilles, or whatever.

There is a very cool metal underground here in San Diego, check out some of our bands mythraeum, Helsott, woods witch, just to name a few. They have great metal shows at Brick by Brick !!!
This!!! AC/DC are way more of a "jock rock" rock band I'd expect to see playing at some sporting event than Metallica. I'm surprised not to hear more of a push for this to happen.

Just complain that gay people are on TV or women are in super hero movies. I disagree with the "Not appearing with the flavour of the week popstar" comment... They played succesfully with Lady Gaga after all! I think Metallica has a pop sensibility that would be suitable for pop appearances.
I don't think Lady Gaga is a flavor of the week. She's a well established star... She's been around for over a decade. I did enjoy that performance with her too.

Exactly - the short performance was the most metal thing I've seen in a while. Singing about that brutal revolution era, surronded by beheaded nobility, with the "bloodstreaks" on side of a castle where Marie-Antoinette was imprisoned before execution... I don't understand how anyone does not see this as a milestone for metal music. And I am not a Gojira fan.
it's kinda crazy to me that knocked loose can play at cochlea(and have people go nuts for 2 shows) and a band more mainstream and safe like metalica would not be classified as safe by management
Yes but I very much doubt Knocked Loose could play the super bowl either. Not with their religious criticisms. Coachella is fine for that sort of thing.
