My Honda says its a HRX2174HYA What is the difference? I need to order new blades. My lawnmower mechanic wants to charge me $200.00 for a $40.00 (at most) fix. Thanks.
That's the best presentation of the HRX217HYA Honda mower of any I've seen. We have that exact mower, and it is by far the best mower we've ever owned. Fourteen years old and always starts first pull. We store it for the winter in October and the following spring it always starts right up. I think at 10:33 you meant to say, remove the oil dip stick, not the drain plug. It's too bad that Honda is getting out of the walk behind mower business. If anyone wants one Theye'd better get it this year because after that there will be no more. Great mower and a great video.
This is an excellent, detailed video. This is an impressive machine! I have a X4 and a D4 at home, and they are great cleaners for homes with pets. I wish Sebo would develop a G4 with two motors and a brush roll shutoff. That would be the perfect vacuum!
I’m relatively educated on vacuums (from my late father who was a vacuum tech) and I’m torn between the K3 and the E3. I live in Germany and have a relatively medium-small house with 95% hardwood downstairs with 3 VERY long area rugs scattered about. Upstairs is wall-to-wall medium pile carpeting where the only hard floor is in the (smallish) bathroom. Any help would be appreciated :)
"Residential" tells you everything you need to know when buying any equipment. About 15 years ago the church bought a commercial 21 inch Toro mower for $800 when comparable mowers were $500. The mower lasted for over a decade on weekly trimming the 6 acre property. The 84 inch National mower did the rest.
I scored one of two Honda mowers left in my area, an HRX217VKA. I'd prefer the one you demonstrated as I don't like the speed control on the one I'm about to pick up in the next couple days, but I'm glad I was able to find one before they were all completely sold out. I wish Honda would reconsider and fight the government! Lord knows they have the money!
I cannot say as to one being preferable over the other. They are both 1st quality products and, in that respect, it makes little difference as to which you would select.
I don't think that the high end crowd searching for vacuum info on youtube would appreciate the music. Your previous videos were perfect. I would just suggest better lighting for any new vids. The real appeal is Keith's comprehensive erudite explanations. 👍
Agreed. After watching countless equipment reviews, he's the best. Relaying pertinent information extremely concisely. So many 'reviewers' need to take note. No schtick needed.
Man I wish your new videos had no background music Keith! Always the most informative on youtube - you are enough - the background music makes it harder to absorb the great content! - a past and future customer :-)
I have a HS35 that was given to me in 2007. I had the carb rebuilt and it has worked flawlessly for me every year since! One or two pulls to start it at the beginning of the season, one pull every time after. Replaced the paddles about six years ago. Love this machine!
I have special edition Royal Vaccum, I believe from 1989. It was custom labeled on the bag for Stark's Vacuum stores in Oregon. The machine is gorgeous. It has beautiful silk-screened metal wheel covers with the Royal Emblems that are perfect. I bought it years ago and restored it to look nearly new. Found OEM parts to make it new and restored the metal. I have only used it maybe 2 hours. I need to pair down on my stuff and haven't found a buyer. Would like a collector to buy it and cherish it. Neat Vacuums.
Is this blower better than Toro’s Power Clear? I would like to get away from replacing the augers every few years. Is the Snow Masters performance comparable?
I would guess that it would be a little bit better as this one is propelled by the wheels and I think it only has a small amount of rubber on the augers. I typically use a two-stage machine in just keep a Toro 518 Powerclear around in case my big machine breaks or someone needs to borrow a it since it's relatively easy to put in a car.
I'm a bit reluctant to say "better" -- they are two different types of machines. For many people it might be preferrable as it incorporates transmission driven rear wheels which the Power Clear does not use.
Unfortunately, Honda issued a stop sale on these mowers on June 19th due to a faulty camshaft. I went through two mowers that had the same issue. Finally, I decided to upgrade to the HRC216 commercial as it is not affected by this problem.
Yes --- this all took place this year in 2023. It was a silly little problem -- a small metal component which was supposed to freely slide in a guide in the plastic cam would, through a defect, not properly engage. In that case, after initial use, the engine would suffer from a compression lock and become virtually impossible to pull. While highly annoying and a bit of a headache, I cannot really blame Honda -- the engines when originally tested would have run satisfactorily. I don't know from where you had purchased and returned your two HRX mowers; but, any Honda Dealer would have been able to rectify the issue by simply installing a new cam. We've done quite a number of those repairs. Your commercial unit utilizes an entirely different engine (a much better engine, I should add, than is used on the residential models) and the cam issue was not present with that series of engine. Enjoy your commercial Honda -- a bit heavy; but, a great lawnmower!
Presuming it is still available (which it should be -- I'm home and not at work -- can't verify) you should be able to obtain it through your local Honda Outdoor Power Equipt Dealer.
