Greyhounds are adorable, but like any breed they have their little quirks that can prove frustrating at times. In this video I share the things that wind me up...of course, Floppy disagrees!

OMG, I can relate to soooo much of this. I live in a one bedroom room flat with 4 greyhounds (last year it was 5 but sadly my oldest girl passed). It's not so much the small space that is the problem but pretty much everything else you share. I got moments where I wish I only had one but then I look at them all and my heart melts. I know I'm so blessed to have them, even though they drive me bananas!

I only have one greyhound and I can relate to all this! Don't know how you manage with five! My boy is a particular 'pain' when I've just ping-ed something in the microwave, or poured a hot cup of tea - and suddenly he wants to nip out for a pee before I sit down to enjoy it. And he ends up staring up the street for ten minutes ignoring my frantic cries while the tea goes cold!

I have to admit, while I'd like a second dog, even if I could afford one, there just isn't enough floor space or couches for two giant sprawling animals. You do a great job navigating around so many living roadblocks! My fear is that one day, I'll step over him, and he'll move, and I'll stand on his leg and seriously hurt him. But to date, he mostly stays still - I am incredibly blessed with this one (so far). Long may it last!

The loitering is the primary reason why Boudicca isn't allowed in the kitchen at all, for any reason. I shudder to think what would happen if she were underfoot while I'm carrying a pot of boiling water or something. And she's very good at getting right underfoot.

This made me laugh out loud! My greyhound is constantly in the way, and can always get between me and whatever I'm trying to do. I'm constantly saying, Move, move, move... A friend said once that at least she wouldn't be able to trip me up as she's so big, but that's not true! Many times she has caused me to trip by silently creeping up behind me just as I'm turning around, or by suddenly stepping right into my path, usually when I'm carrying a hot cup of something. She also walks so close to my side, especially in bad weather, that she literally gets under my feet and to prevent stepping on her little feet I have to do an awkward little skipping step to the side which can cause me to lose my balance a little bit. So that is why I was laughing, and why I watched it twice just to enjoy the fact that your lovely dogs made me laugh!

Emma's just the same at bed time, goes out to what I think she does a wee for the night but gets me up at approx 2 in the morning wanting to go out and then stands there looking at her bowl for something to eat. Then can't get back to sleep, whilst she is snoring her head off😂

I've been really lucky with my hound re toilet and bedtime. After dinner, she shows no interest in going out again, never asks to toilet overnight and if it's raining the next morning, has been known to sleep until midday! In fact, she rarely poops in the garden but waits for her walks, which I assume is related to keeping her space (the garden) clean..?

Hattie is usually a good girl ref bedtime but last night awoke at 3am and started pacing. Took her downstairs for a loo stop, no issue. Then she decided she didnt want to go to bed, she was fixated on corners of the room...ears up, head cocked like she could hear something. This continued until 5 am...with a bleary eye human worrying that her greyhound was seriously ill and needed close monitoring. But no...shes eaten, toileted and done normal stuff today. Its like shes telling me we have mice!!! As im sat there monitoring my dog theres a huge crash in the kitchen...the lid fell off the kitchen bin. Boy did i jump! Armed myself with a flashlight torch ready to defend us😂😂...nothing there. Dearie me what a night😮 its been suggested to me from my greyhound group that Hats may be hearing local foxes. Could be, yes. Just weird shes not done this before. Hope shes ok 2n as im utterly bushed!
@jwcaninecare
@jwcaninecare Месяц назад
my guess would be she is hearing something. Foxes have been very noisy round here recently - mating in the school yard late at night! and they keep spraying in my garden, which is less than pleasant. I always know they've been in as they dogs behave differently the next morning, checking out the smells. Was Hattie back to normal the next day...or checking out where the intruders had been?
@phoebsc5993
@phoebsc5993 Месяц назад
@jwcaninecare it took 2 days until Hattie chilled out. Think it's a combination of foxes, cheeky kitties and mice. I caught a mouse yesterday in a live trap. ))

I had to take Madge out the other morning at 1.30am ,and I have to take her out down our private lane and out onto the country lane, as I do not have a garden here! I am always a bit scared of meeting someone in the dark at that time, but needs must when the devil drives (after all, her racing name was Devil's Magic) and she does her wee and pooh, then we came back to bed, and both went back to sleep until around 7.00am! She usually wants to go out about 6/6.30am and again I have to put clothes on over my nightie, and take her out for her walk. I try and take her out as late as possible for her last pit stop in the evening, but it does not always seem to make any difference, she has always been an early riser! xxx

Thank you for your interesting and adorable video 😊 I live in Portugal, and at the moment I have a Dalmatian, who will be 15 years old this year in December ... Unfortunately and with great sadness I have to start thinking that something might happen... it's already showing enough signs... and according to the vet I have to prepare my heart 😞...I live one day at a time, enjoying every second with him... Speaking to some dog lovers they suggested that if something sad happens,an English Greyhound would be precious to me at this point in my life...I'm thinking about getting an English greyhound...He or she seems like a wonderful dog in many ways... I live alone in an apartment but I have the chance to go for long walks with him, including on the beach...and he will undoubtedly be a fantastic life companion... May I please ask your opinion?... ... Thank you very much... from the bottom of my heart... Maria

You're very welcome! many greyhounds do well in apartments, just make sure the rescue organisation help you choose a suitable dog. I have a video on greyhounds and stairs, and you might also want to think about toilet training if you wont have the option to just pop out into a garden

I have some videos may help you... One called 'windy dogs' about flatulence, a couple on feeding, also if you look at the series about floppy there is one there that may help, he struggles with that too.

With just 1 grey, it should be easy........ No! To be fair, he's very good overnight, if he can't hold on he'll use a big puppy training pad on a tiled floor, and is very accurate. Never wakes us at night. Try it.

For Heavens sake lady. The fact that you can't see the simple solution to your problems amazes me. You keep saying "the only option" like you have no other option. Why I don't have your problem despite owning 2 big dogs and occasionally fostering others: I believe that it is healthier for dogs to be outside most of the time getting exercise and fresh air. I like to bring my dogs inside some of the time but they aren't allowed in the kitchen. Dogs can be taught that the kitchen (or any other area) is out of bounds quite easily. They can also be taught to stay e.g. on a dog bed or to go outside if you don't want them getting in your way whilst you have something important to do. In your situation, it's like you are guests in their house and they are the ones who make the rules and you have to fit around whatever they choose to do.
