I was in the hospital after having my thyroid out (cancer) for 4 days, and couldn’t go back to work for at least 2 weeks. You are very blessed and healthy! Very impressed!

Did you ever consider putting a mast on the aft deck for a studying sail to keep your boat head to wind?

Your videos are not sequential. I saw the video where you finished the winch and I left a comment that I wanted to see how you made the top. You talked about it in this video but I still haven’t seen it being made. I love the new engine room.
@OnboardTangaroa
@OnboardTangaroa День назад
They are very coarsely chronological. If Janis does not have enough footage for a certain project or story at the time, she goes to another one. But no, it is not strictly sequential. When you say the top of the windlass I assume you mean the stainless rounded potion or do you mean the actual bollards on top?

Yalls boatyards are way different than ours in the states. Yall seem like nobody bothers yall for anything and yall can actually work on yalls boat. Here in the states the only way that would happen is if u pay them to do the work. Other than that u have to take ur boat out and onto ur own property so kuddos to yall for being able to do so in yalls boatyard. I know its a pain either way not only living in a boat but actually working out of one as well. U will eventually get it all organized and the way yall want it. But once its complete which it will never be 😂😂😂 it will be all worth the work and cant wait to go along with u guys on yalls journey. I promise this is the last comment for me on this video. 😂😂😂 much love to you guys from Maryland❤❤❤.

We are very fortunately to have yards like Steveston around us. I know in a lot of places the yards are like you describe. Steveston is a municipal owned yard that's there to help subsidize the fishing fleet so they aren't as money hungry as business owned yards. Even the day rates are massively less than other yards. No worries about the comments. We read and respond to the all.

Should of did that board cutting and all that for the exhaust before she painted it and all. Got to work on yalls organizational skills for your projects so ur not taking 1 step forward and 3 steps backward. But yall def get shit done though. Great job once again.

Have to ask about the Tef Tape…….. AFAIK, Tef tape is a “BIG No No” with regard to with Diesel fuel fittings. Dope, or the appropriate Diesel sealant is the way to go. And I have heard that the Yellow Tef tape may work as well, as it is fuel resistant. The White Tape commonly used in plumbing, is not. It will break down, and contaminate the fuel system that you just so Painstakingly put together. P.S. I have not rewound this episode to see if you were using the Tef tape, but just wanted you to know. I am enjoying the rebuild of Tangarora, and wish you much luck.
@OnboardTangaroa
@OnboardTangaroa 2 дня назад
Have no fear! The tef tape I used is the fuel compatible tape. I rarely ever use the plain white tape. So far that part has held up well. Glad you are enjoying the channel!

Love the 1hr video guys . Blaine did you go to school to learn all these things on your guys boat or is it experience.
@OnboardTangaroa
@OnboardTangaroa 3 дня назад
Glad you enjoyed it! Janis decided to try it out. I am trained and was licensed as an airframe and powerplant technician for aircraft originally. Immediately out of trade school (circa 1996) I was hired on as crew on the first yacht I worked on. After a brief stint as the first mate I moved to the engineer position and did that for six years over two boats. When Janis and I got married we moved to Victoria where I worked as a tech at a local boatyard for two years. I left there to work for the local cable company for five years then finally moved to my current occupation of owning my own performance automotive shop where I do a ton of custom fabrication, wiring, and engine swaps. I have been doing that for the last fourteen years and next year will be my final year with that. All-in-all its a mix of a lot of life experience backed with some great schooling that has got me to where I am today. I don't know everything but if something interests me I absorb info like a sponge.

Just wondering... With the "smaller" engines would one muffler have managed the exhaust flow?
@OnboardTangaroa
@OnboardTangaroa 4 дня назад
Unfortunately using one muffler with two engines will not work as if one engine is shut down the exhaust from the running engine could path back through the shut down engine and exit out the air filter into the engine room. Would be nice to not have to have two mufflers though!

The clear hose is food and beverage line it was very common to use it. Stuff was cheap, heck of a lot cheaper than black fuel hose. The fuel system is a little mind boggling. That is a lot of valves and manifolds you'd definately would want to have things labeled. When an oh sh*t moment is happening gotta know which valve does what. A person can look at that and say it could have been done differently. When your designing something in your head you have to do it yourself. Check off the boxes in your head okay that one is done. Im a little sceptical on the push to connect fittings. Heat cycles stuff is going to get loose over time. I'm a bit old school, prefer stainless band clamps. Yes you need the tool to make the connections. Its like sharkbite plumbing fittings don't really trust them either. Everything has become push to connect especially in the automotive world. So that tank you guys moved the day tank? The old 12v71s would have sucked that dry in a few hours. The 6.7 Cummins there can't be that much fuel return. I assume the engines have a valve to keep the rail pressure where it needs to be. If you ever had a vacuum happen on the return side it could drop your rail pressure. Keeping fuel clean is the utmost importance now you have engines with tighter tolerances fuel systems. The old green grenades would burn anything. They sure don't like air in the fuel system. Your there shooting the cosby sauce in the intake praying the pump will pick up the fuel. You hope the batteries have enough juice the starter is hot enough to cook an egg on it 😂
@OnboardTangaroa
@OnboardTangaroa 3 дня назад
I hated that food grade hose. That stuff terrified me. The fuel system looks like a lot but its actually fairly simple. The top two manifolds are supply and return for the transfer/polishing system and the bottom two are supply and return for the engines/generators. We just have a lot of tanks.I will eventually make up some nice label placards but for the time being, sharpie it is! The pushlok fittings are a bit daunting at first but I use them lots at my shop and have had really good success with them. I believe the tank you are referring to is the little plastic tank on the aft deck? If so, that one is a water tank. The day tanks are 200 gallon aluminum tanks down in the engine room. They lasted a good while even with the Detroits as we didn't push them very hard. Surprisingly the Cummins actually move a fair bit of return fuel. Those CP3 pumps work well. The rail pressure is actually controlled by a valve that controls the suction side of the pump. Seems to maintain pressure very well. The Cummins do take a bit to build pressure if they suck air but I have some ideas to make a rapid bleeding system in the future. Thanks for watching!

@OnboardTangaroa
@OnboardTangaroa 4 дня назад
We wont be painting it again. Its too difficult to maintain paint on aluminum in a salty marine environment. Polishing it up a bit more is on the list but unfortunately its pretty far down in priority.
@1798iscomingback
@1798iscomingback 4 дня назад
With smaller displacement engines, can't you get smaller mufflers?
@OnboardTangaroa
@OnboardTangaroa 4 дня назад
You can indeed but marine silencers are ridiculously expensive. We already had these and they don't really take up any usable space. With an unlimited budget we certainly would have replaced them but alas it was not in the cards on this refit. Thanks for watching!
