Recreational fisherman targeting striped bass at the Cape Cod Canal. My goal is to share my passion for fishing through videos, stay tuned for what’s next...
wow guys are stacked on top of each other. I would think if a fish runs sideways it would cross over a bunch of lines? Is it crowded like that all over the canal or just some spots. Is it a locals only vibe
@@prep1989 thanks for watching! I wouldn’t say it’s “locals only,” I think it’s important we welcome everyone to the Canal - helps support the local bait shops to keep them in business for us locals... But, an angler definitely does need to observe the rotation and work with those around them. When someone hooks up with a fish, it’s best to hold off on casting or pull your line out of the way until the fish is in close to the rocks. Sometimes if multiple people have fish on it can get entertaining… 🤣🎣🐟
@@nightshiftfishing wow, someone who knows what time it is! Are you ready to unlock the potential of arguably the best production plastic lure for the canal? This is coming from someone who bought the first stick shadd in 2010 when they only came in floating
Hi Matt please be careful at night. Around Aptucxet trading post somebody moved 2 picnic tables and tied fishing line in between. I don’t want you or your buddies getting hurt. Have a great summer!!
Thanks for passing that on. I heard that recently somewhere else too - very disappointing that something like that would happen… Appreciate you thinking of sharing it with me! 🎣🐟
Matt, that’s awesome - standing around ready to move and then “The BANG! FISH ON”… The white stick shad was my go to lure for 3 years but has not been hitting for me in 2+ years…. Chet, nice fish!
My wife yelled at me last weekend because we were running late to our friends cape house and I pulled over at the herring run motel to make a couple casts. No action but gotta stay committed haha. Good stuff, glad the fishing is good. Waters around Boston have been solid
Such a good morning! Always a good time with the crew. Thanks for the awesome footage, Matt. My daughter loved watching this with me on the big screen tonight.
Chet - always a pleasure to share a tide with you! Congrats again on your PB. I’m so glad I was there to see you break into the 40’s and get it all on video! Wanted to make sure I did you PB justice with this video, glad you and your daughter enjoyed it. 🎣🐟
Thanks! This was a great morning for sure. Your report is much more like almost every other day I’ve had this season… Hopefully things pick up soon! 🎣🐟
@@oskee007striperlifejust wait till you see what I have in the works… STAY TUNED - if you think the Twin Power was a surprise, you’re really going to be shocked by what’s next!!
Great video reminds me of last year July 8. I kick myself in the butt for leaving when the first pod went through. Should have waited the second pod of fish were bigger. Congrats to @chet for that PB 🎣
This morning and the videos of it definitely remind me of the July 8th/9th weekend last year as well. Glad you made it back and got into the action! 🎣🐟
So Awesome meeting you and the crew Matt your videos are great my daughter lost it with the selfie and says she's coming next time, ( especially if a duffer like me can fish with you guys) shout out to Tony Jason Ryan and Joe it was a pleasure gotta love true ditch culture. Still wondering if that young guy grindin through the rain finally got a hit
Hey hey!! It was a pleasure to meet you as well! I’m so glad we ran into you, always a pleasure to share the rocks with someone as passionate about fishing as yourself. I hope you put those stickers to good use! I’m not sure if that guy ever hooked into a fish but he definitely put the work in that morning…
what would you recommend for rod/reel setups? looking to get into canal fishing but also from shore all over the cape and the variety of answers is wild
Really depends on what you’re trying to do. Personally I use an 11’ ODM Jigster with a Shimano Twin Power 14K reel. That would be total overkill for anywhere else on the Cape. One combo I’ve found that could work well for multiple applications is a TFO rod with a Penn Slammer III 6500 reel, I use the 10’6” TFO and I use that on beaches as well as at the Canal. It would be too much for back bays but it’s a good beach/jetty setup. Best thing to do is come up with your ideal price point and head to Red Top or Goose Hummock and ask for their recommendations.
Hey, I’m trying to go fishing in cape cod canal. Ive been fishing before but I really don’t remember how to set up my rod and reel. I was wondering if I could message you and ask you a couple questions. If not, a quick to the point response would be great too! I currently have a 10 foot tsunami trophy 2 surf rod and a Penn Spinfisher VI reel and a few east end lures that has the weights on them already. My question is, what else do I need? I know I need fishing line but I’m confused on how to set up the mainline and then having a leader line attached and then does the end of the leader line connect to the lure I’m using? Sorry for such a beginner question. I’ve been watching your videos and I’m very interested in fishing at the canal. Thanks for reading!
It sounds like you have the basics and a good foundation. Feel free to message me on Instagram at NightShiftFishing. Id recommend you take the reel spool into a bait shop and ask for backing and line, they’ll set you up with the proper backing and then I’d recommend 50lb Power Pro line to start. The shops close to the Canal (Red Top, Macos and Canal Bait & Tackle) all sell two-packs of pre-made leaders. Grab a few of those. They are usually ~36” of florocarbon line with a barrel swivel at one end to tie to the mainline and a TA clip at the other end to attach to the lures. In addition to the East End jigs I’d recommend you grab a couple of pencil poppers. To get started I’d recommend a couple Wally’s poppers - try white and another in green mackerel. You can get them at Red Top. Again, these are just my recommendations.
Looks good Matt, I'd recommend a glider and metal lipped as well. I guess I'll have to get to the ditch for my first trip of the year and throw some swimmers in the dark. Cool video 👍
Definitely can’t go wrong with those in the line up. I had good luck during May was my metal lips but nothing in June… We’ll see how the Hoka Hey metal lip and Larson glider do during July, both are in the rotation! 🎣🐟
Right on bro-thx! Glad to see yr breaking in that reel nicely 👍 You’ll notice I’m actually reply from the correct channel now…@Rob1cool…lol…instead of my older @Roberthood1234 channel.
