I agree about this Mitchell guitar - great guitar for the the money. It is a challenge however….as I mentioned when you posted your first review a year ago, it took me three tries to get this guitar without damages. First guitar i ordered online had a chip in the top, and no truss rod tool. Fortunately i live in a city with a Guitar Center store. I returned it to the store…sales guy went in the back to get me a new one. Opened the box right in front of me and when he pulled it out it looked like someone hit the top with a hammer. They blamed it on UPS. Sales guy found another new one in the system and had it shipped to my house. Third time was a charm, no damages and it included the truss rod tool. Sounds and looks great - thank you for turning me on to this guitar!

Just picked up a red one on sale new from GC for $149 - gets here in two days. Can't wait! Of course i also stumbled upon the new MS-470. Restocks on sale for 199. That denim blue color... So tempted lol. Seems like the same thing as the 450 but with a metal bridge (vs string-through) and a different fretboard inlay design. The knobs on the 470 are also not 'sunk' into the body like on the 450.

The terms coil tap and split get mixed up regularly. But they are different. Coil tap is when they wind a pickup and then add a 2nd section of winding that is wired separately. When tapped, the additional winding is removed (bypassed) reducing the output of the pickup. Thus, the pickup might be 12k when the knob is down and reduced to 9.5k when tapped. It lets you reduce the output and (theoretically) produce a better clean tone, then add the extra output when you want to drive the amp into distortion. Coil split is when both of the coils are wound separately so that one is shut off when you pull up the control pot, emulating a single coil pickup (poorly in most cases - as it's much thinner than a proper single coil). While this could be coil tapped, it's more likely coil split and they confused the terms.

I have owned 3 of these guitars over the years. They were/are all good guitars - no problems. I love that the body is thinner than a les paul. So, it's not so heavy or bulky feeling. I'm in my 60's. weight matters. I love that it has contoured cuts in the body. I love the locking tuners and the two separate volume controls and only one tone nob. who needs two tone nobs. I have them on all of my strats and never need then. I control the tone from the amp. The pickups are alnico 5's. Very decent sounding pickups. I found no need to upgrade the pickups. But if I did, they would be Pearly Gates by Seymour Duncan. I had a guitar technician at Guitar Center make all necessary adjustments to my guitars. This is a lot of guitar for under $400. I found them to be better than Epiphone LP's. And $400 is a far cry from $2500 for a Gibson LP. Yes, you might need to buy/exchange two or three of them to get the perfect guitar. or you could get a near perfect one the first time. I was lucky all three times.

I love my Mitchell acoustic guitar. I feel the brand is slept on for sure. I may have to check out this guitar.

Well, it's easier to criticize a "cheap guitar" than it is to criticize an "expensive guitar". Hopefully we understand that it is not necessary to have something expensive to be more than satisfied with the product purchased. Have you ever played an Ibanez AX120? Im not claiming its a better budget, because ive never tried your mitchell. But the AX120 i bought around xmas is amazing. when i turned 18 i was lucky enough to have a roommate that had a Les Paul Standard but had no idea on how to play he just knew that Les Pauls were great guitars so I got to play his Les Paul all the time to where it was almost like my guitar. It was bought brand new in 1990ish and we became roomates by 1991. I remember this guitar very well and the ex120 I just purchased is resembles that in a lot of ways it's not quite as heavy but it has the same feeling and almost every other distinct characteristic as that guitar. And I'm also not claiming that any AX120 is as good as as a Les Paul Standard that's just clearly not true. They just recently stopped making AX120'S. But I got mine from a buyer on Facebook of all places who bought it and never used it so it still was brand new had the tags on it everything and you know it cellophane bag wrapped up around it that comes from the factory and I got it for a hundred bucks tho it retails for like 225 I'm asking you this only because I'm interested in the guitar your showcasing in this video I like guitars that follow the Les Paul idea of a philosophy of how a guitar should be I don't like ones that follow Fender you know I just don't like the Stratocaster really I even have a strat right now and I really can't stand it it has single coil pickups and all it does is pick up 60 Cycle hum. Before the days of Heaven effect signal processors and Noise Gate pedals and things like that compressors and think how on Earth were they able to play these guitars because without all that technology to get rid of a 60 cycle hum I have no idea how they could have ever played these things. Mitchell just came out with new MS470 models- 4 new finishes and little tweaks here and there- for around the same price. I've wondered if you heard about it?

The new 470 is $200 and has a tune on matic stop bar and binding and as of early November '23 still $200
