Two of my favourite bodybuilders. Dave Draper and Larry Scott. If you've got any videos of Don Howorth, I'd love to see them. Larry was a worthy winner ... "Legend" indeed!!!
One thing i dont understand is how is it that if you lift 400p one time that means you can lift 380p a 100 times that just doesnt make sense to me, maybe because i understand him wrong. I mean even if you go from 400p to 100 pounds it wil be a great chance that you wouldnt even get to 80 reps
Glad he's a scientist because he is no trainer. Your going to get 11 today. "Gasping for Air and water got 6." OK your form was better this time. " Let me know if my elbows are going back." Doesn't say anything until he's done. "Yeah that looked good." Next excercise your going to get 11. "Still gasping for air clearly tired." Got 6 all struggles, "That's OK your tired." No shit he been needing a longer recovery. Plus he changing his own weight as. While your just holding a notebook mumbling.
I spent 20+ years following the Arthur Jones and Mike mentzer principles w amazing success... it's sad that I never got to use any of the beautiful machines... my biggest advice is to use less weight and train at least 2 x a wk... I always went heavier than I thought... sacrifice d alot of growth.
We were one of the few high schools in my area that had the full lineup of machines. Interestingly enough it was frowned upon at first because some didn’t believe it really helped with football. However we got a new strength coach from Florida and he convinced the HC to keep the gym open after practice. Turns out it was perfect for in-season training because many guys were just doing a few curls and benches(if that) during the season without rhyme or reason. We created a two day a week program and most guys adhered to it. We had very few injuries and really held our own against teams that were power lifting oriented. However you really have to maintain those machines and I would imagine that is not easy.
I worked out at the same gym as Larry for 7 or 8 years. He liked to hook up with someone to train biceps, which was usually me. I learned the true meaning of the word intense. I had only been training at a gym for about 4 or 5 years. Larry was always helpful with the young lifters in the gym. The nickname Twigarms I received later in life, in the Fire Service was due to lessons learned from Larry. I've noticed defining moments in life that create who you become. Meeting Larry was one of those defining moments for me. He told me about his steroid use but encouraged me not to use them. I listened. RIP old friend.
Arnold was genetically blessed. The long arms, broad shoulders, tiny waist & small head combo makes his physique looks so aesthetically pleasing that even being at only 80-90% he's still better than the rest.
Another thing is he was very close with Joe weider and Joe weider invested a lot of money into products to sell and buy Arnold winning his products would sell very good supplement products exercise products and he wanted Arnold to win so he wouldn't lose all the money he invested into these products I really think he look great but I think Mike mentzer beat his ass
I loved the way he used his hands in posing. It was a sign of power to me when I was a kid. Don’t take that wrongly; I don’t want to see every scrawny sideshow crackhead on the street flashing hands like he’s got something dastardly for ya while pretending to be a man of prowess to impress when he doesn’t. Mike was impressive & strong looking.
Roger Walker of Australia was right after Arnold in the line-up, he was a very big guy and could hold his own against Arnold, especially in this show, Arnold's worst.
