and now you can throw it from 6 different spots... lol the evolution of this game is insane. support wasnt heavily thought about back in my time with this game
God I miss tactical cs content like this. Used to watch stuff like Hatton Games breaking down pro cs tactics and seeing how pros play the game was always my jam because of how complex it is.
something i'm realising going through this is that even in silver matchmaking i've seen a lot of these smokes and felt a lot of these meta shifts over the years i was active, so seeing their origins at the top level after all these years is really something else
Great video, although I have to say, I loved 1.6 banana. Back then it was an actual banana, everything was spammable and taking it as a CT was a massive risk.
awesome video, you did great showing the evolution of this one area, how strats changed over time both what was working and who adapted as well as valve changes that mixed up strats
i miss the old old inferno. there were like 3 different 1-way smokes for the car spot that worked great in matchmaking and were tons of fun to bamboozle the enemies with.
CS is such a shit game with shit maps. All the maps are literally just 3 straight lines from t spawn to ct spawn. No elevation, verticality or split paths. A small thing here or there, that's it. It's so boring. The combat is lame, you just walk around and shoot and your bullets fly to the moon while the gun stays straight. Such an awful fucking game
This video is INSANE. Extremely detailed. Can't even begin to imagine the amount of research that went into this. % of put out smoke alone is insane. Just to nitpick, the only thing I would've added was the CT-T side winrate to show how each variation increased the winrate starting from quite CT-sided in 2012 to the slightly T-sided version we ended up with in 2023.
Thanks so much! I had looked into adding in the CT/T win-rate, but I found that the results had little relation to who was winning the fight at banana. This was likely because both sides were also developing ways to fight/defend at A as well. If I developed a way to measure the win-rate at only banana, I would have added it in for sure.
I've had a bunch of replies on the Evolution of Mirage Window Smoke video from people who said they hadn't played or watched CS in their life. A few more on this video as well. You'd be surprised!
Mahone you are one of the greatest to ever document Counter Strike history. We are blessed as a community to have you create such pieces for us. Another amazing video.
How did you record all these in-game (not demo ones) scenes with throwing nades by yourself? How did you download csgo for this video? Is it a pirate version?
I recorded all of these scenes before the update that killed CS community servers. But there is still a way to make them work as far as I'm aware. To load into CSGO today, you have to opt into the beta branch and select csgo_legacy.
