I'll actually try this! It's got to be AMERICAN wartime food, though - in Britain fresh eggs were rare and even the powdered ones were severely rationed.

Scrapple is the best. Little apple butter, and eggs. happy times. My great grandmother would make it and my mum too. what about ring bologna if you never had that you should try it. I'm from Massachusetts so it's hard to come by

from the south, having only had fried okra, i have no idea what people are complaining about with the texture. maybe if i had it in other forms i'd get it, but okra is a pleasant, mild, kind of spiced seeming vegetable. good stuff

I bet they used a “leftover fat” like bacon grease or schmaltz. Butter was likely rationed too. Love the dive into old school meat substitutes. Keep it coming Barry!!❤❤

Barry, there are a couple of dry Barbeque seasonings readily available out there in most grocery stores. (McCormicks comes to mind.) I'm wondering what it'd be like if you added that instead of or along with the cinnamon.

You might be able to dehydrate the bbq sauce by spreading it out on some foil and baking it at around 170 degrees for two or three hours. If the sauce has oil in it, this might not work. Alternatively, basting the cookies with sauce towards the end of the bake could be interesting too, just be careful and don’t burn your cookies because BBQ sauce has a lot of sugar in it.
