If anyone questions your exploring these old schoolhouses, I'd just tell them the truth. You're documenting as many of them as you can on video for historical purposes before they're all gone.
Where at in Missouri? When I was a kid, I dont think ours had the plexiglass, cuz I distinctly remember dodging bees! That honey butter and fresh bread was all worth it though! My grandmother and I, and sometimes my mom or aunts, went fairly frequently. We went to the one off of S. 71 Hwy. in Harrisonville, Missouri. Such fond memories! 😊❤
As a employee for the city of bridgeton, please stay out of there! Its very dangerous, that building is structurally unstable and the amount of abestos exposed is deathly. The last thing anybody wants is someone to get hurt in there.
Since you’re an employee of Bridgeton I have to ask… have you ever heard of any dead bodies being found in the clubhouse or in the subdivision in general? I’ve heard so many rumors about it throughout the years but I can’t find anything online about it
@bxx32 Hey Ben, glad to see that you are still shooting video. I just watched the #13 abandoned house from 2012. I noticed your voice in that video sounded a little higher pitched. Could’ve been how your camera was recording the sound. I’m glad to see that you are hanging in there with RU-vid.
To see the remains the subdivision is crazy. Such a waste to destroy a community...including Kinloch for that matter. All for an airport that never reached it's projected growth thanks to TWA going broke and AA removing St Louis as a hub.
Is there a street to it or how did you access this. Did you park your car and walk. We was gonna try but was affraid someone would see our truck and tow it any tips
l watched your video about a school house you went to. I enjoyed the video until .... you started complaining about the roads you were on and the things we, the viewers, didn't see. Plus, you had comments turned off on the video, hence my comment here. If you are worried about your car and the roads, maybe think about looking for a vehicle that is capable of handling rougher terraine and has high ground clearance. It will give you more peace of mind and we can focus on your video and not what you are worried about. Safe Travels.
Great video Ben, thank you for filming this gem. I love when you film these old stations it's so cool yet sad at the same time. I just think of all the people that were in and out of there for decades. I also can't believe that toilet is still in tact LOL.
If you think this is eerie you should of seen it in its "airport buy out/imminent domain" hay day back in like 2005 when all the houses there were all boarded up with no one living in them. My brothers and I drove thru there when I was like 13 or 14 and we had a literal picnic in the middle of the road somewhere in there and I'll never forget how eerily quiet it was lol. There was also some sort of shut down vacant medical/mental health institution of some sorts as well near Gist rd. Nowadays it's just all grass and mud. I'm guessing it was st.louis's closest thing to the ghost towns in Detroit as it gets. Good memories lol
from all the research ive done (wiki is incomplete/incorrect in parts) reading blogs ppls memories etc NF opened in mid 1960's (couldnt find exact dates) best guess is 1965 and closed in 1980s again best guess is 1985. it changed hands 3x in its life. just one day in the 80s the waitresses cooks (but not upper management like managers etc) and couldnt get in. nobody before hand was notified this was gonna happen. however fowlerville farms in fowlerville michgan ive been told it has been in continuous operation since opening cause when the others closed this one stayed opened. most NF's sold Skelly products but in some areas like michigan it sold marathon products. theres not many (grainy pics of the inside) pictures. it had a gift shop and a sit down restaurant inside. in the gift shop portion you could buy on site honey products and learn about the bees. the storage unit across the street was once a gas station. east side of the high hill NF's sat a stuckeys. it was torn down years ago. usually if there was a stuckeys IJ nickerson built his NF's next to it or near by. always on a major highway or interstate. IJ nickerson used to work at a stuckeys and didnt like the rules so he created his own chain. last time the bathroom window was opened. never saw the inside but was told furniture was stored in there? but it looks like it might be mostly intact which would make it the only NF in the world to be. nice job! idk how i missed this vid. another guy i think lives in missouri captured around the same time you did. hugs love and bee safe :D
I found it on google maps street view it's almost totally flat the bottom of the bell tower is on but the top isn't and the front of the building is at a 45 degree angle the rest of the building is pretty much flat!
@bxx32 Hey Ben, how are you? Your video reminds me of your older videos. Good Stuff, Ben. Thumbs Up! Today I started posting videos again. It has been several years since my last one. I hope you are well.
I'm surprised that nobody repurposed that building way back when, I was in one maybe 40 years ago south of Kansas City that was repurposed into a fireworks outlet I was installing some equipment in it. There used to be one just off I-70 in Columbia as well but I don't recall seeing it for a few years now
it was for sale in the mid 90s. on a trip to see my moms cousins my father thought it was a church or something and thought of turning it into a house. well idk what happened after that till one day in 2013 i got an itch to google to see what that building was and it kicked off my research and maybe obsession or love for nickerson farms lol both my parents were missouri natives but never knew about nickerson farms.
for one reason or another this is the first time i had not been notified that this video was up! Even though I'm subscribed with the bell and even after looking for your last post a couple of weeks ago it didn't show me that this video was up 9 months before. As soon as I figure out my paypal info and see how much money I have to play with I'll send along a little green love!
One of those open spaces would have been a huge beehive behind plexiglass so you could see the inner workings. I've such fond memories of various Nickerson Farms, but this one meant I was close to my grandparents. It was my favourite. 💙
Good thing you got this video. This one's on borrowed time. Once the roof goes that's it. Looks like the North wind wasn't kind to it. Love the schoolhouses!
Wow! That's crazy. Can't help to feel something very sinister happened here like some kind of arson. No telling what's been going on there since.Very sketchy. Hope you're doing well Ben. Good to see you posting again.
Creeeeepyyyy! But very cool. That's been abandoned a long, long time. It might have had a restaurant attached where that long stretch was. Mini marts weren't around that long ago, I don't think anyway. Cool, video, Ben!
That is very cool they left the flooring behind and it is still there! That garage was an optical illusion, looks like a small shop from outside, but was really big inside. Hope all is going well, unfortunately I wasn’t able to do any trips this summer due to classes, perhaps next time.
