I just lost a beautiful echeveria cream beauty to stem rot because I didn't realize the bare roots weren't viable and able to take up water. Now I know what to do with these lovely imports to ensure it will survive. What is the advantage of bare root over a cutting with no roots? Or is there no big difference other than price? Cuttings seem a little cheaper.
@SweetSweetSucculents
@SweetSweetSucculents 4 дня назад
@@gwenday honestly no difference. They both need time to get new viable roots. I keep them in partial shade so they don’t dehydrate and wait for roots then water. Bare root is same as a cutting honestly. None can take up water. Both take same amount of time to get roots. Just different wording cause bare root sounds better

@@clarawillis2437 I typically use rubbing alcohol for mealybugs and if I’m just generally using a pesticide, I will use Bonide brand systemic granules. You can get them on Amazon and you just put them on the top of the dirt but if you use that and pollinators have access to your plants, you will need to cut off any blooms so it does not kill the bees, etc. If indoors then you’re all good!

@SweetSweetSucculents
@SweetSweetSucculents 3 месяца назад
They are annoying but honestly if you have tons of plants you’re going to get them every now and then. I think it’s mostly inevitable. As long as you keep an eye on your stuff and catch them then you really don’t have to worry. I’ve never had a plant die from them because they have to take over and be left untreated for a long time. The only annoying thing is that the alcohol will kill them but not the eggs in the soil so you have to spray them regularly for several weeks so that you get the other ones that hatch. But I don’t panic now when I see them.

These babies are adept at surviving those temps as well as being left out as is during our winters here, which are pretty darn cold. I let the snow sit on them, too. Im new selling plants and I need to ship some succulents in pots. Like something similar from the ones you are shipping how I know that the soil of the succulents is completely dried, so I can put it back in the pot for ship?
@SweetSweetSucculents
@SweetSweetSucculents 3 месяца назад
You would need to wait a bit and also go by feel (feeling the weight of the pot), or, if you’re not good at that, you can use a moisture meter. When I ship in pots, I use tape on the pots above the soil so it won’t fall out. Some don’t but it can make a mess and that seems to work well
@Mimisams6
@Mimisams6 3 месяца назад
I saw another video where the person said you should wait at least 5 to 7 days before watering to give the roots time to heal
@SweetSweetSucculents
@SweetSweetSucculents 3 месяца назад
You can wait that long if you just want to, but if you are using proper soil that dries out and drains fast, and you repot it in dry soil, any root wounds you might have made will be dried out in a day or two, so you could water if needed. If the soil you are using is not good quality or hold onto water for a long time, you may need to wait longer. But then you’ll have a lot of other problems in the future since succulents need fast drying and well draining soil
@SweetSweetSucculents
@SweetSweetSucculents 3 месяца назад
You can wait that long if you just want to, but if you’re using good soil that drains fast and dries out quickly, then you really only have to wait a couple of days…reason being if you did create any wounds on the roots, they’ll be dried out in a day or two, especially if you are repotting it in dry soil. Now if you are using soil that holds onto water for a long time, you need to wait longer, but you’ll have a lot of other problems in the future since succulents don’t do well in that kind of soil

It was slow growing at first and I only had it multiply into a few strands but I really wanted to share with people, so I cut a few pieces off to give away and after I did that it started making many more strands. Thanks! That’s exactly what size mine are now! Do I prop in cactus mix? And does it need to callus over first
@SweetSweetSucculents
@SweetSweetSucculents 4 месяца назад
@@gingercaudill7219 if it’s already been cut for several days, then it probably is already calloused over. Just make sure the end is dry. If it’s not dry and you are in a big hurry to plant it, all you have to do is put it in dry dirt. Then you don’t have to worry about the end rotting. And of course it’s going to take at least a few weeks to get roots. Whenever I propagate, I hate having to let something dry out so I just stick all my propagated plants and cuttings in dry dirt. You can go buy cactus/succulent mix but it’s honestly cheaper to make your own with some regular potting soil and then an additive such as perlite, chicken grit, etc. If you’re interested, I have a video on making your own soil mixtures. The main thing is that it needs to be well draining and it needs to dry out quickly
