J & J True Outdoor Adventures was started by father and son, Juddie and Jerod Burgess, the summer of 2011. It is a video show of two common everyday guys from WV hunting in WV. We are not professional hunters, sponsored or affiliated with any organization. Just two ordinary guys who like to hunt in WV and love to fish in WV. We will show our successes and our failures, we will show us testing products that we hear about whether good or bad. We will show the real outdoor adventures of the everyday hunter. We may go hunting and come home empty handed, or come home with a nice trophy, in our eyes. We may or may not capture the harvest on camera. These videos are about the fun of just being outdoors in God's country and enjoying ourselves.
Also, we have videos of reloading and casting, which could be considered part of the hunting adventure. But the primary purpose is to show hunting in the real world, not TV land where monster bucks seem to be around every tree or field.
Thanks! I really like this stove that DEERFAMY came out with, I reviewed another stove that they have back last fall. It is black and the only glass is in the door. So far I have been pleased with both of them. The black one did not come with a pipe dampener like this one did. That is the only fault I have with the black stove. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie
Well, we know the car insurance companies had a big hand with the coyotes being re-introduced or introduced in areas with small populations of coyotes, of course, that was many years ago. They are a big push in the doe tags for rifle doe hunting, that is why some counties went from lottery system to just go and buy a tag. The car insurance companies wouldn't want to see a reduction in harvest limits, they want to see more. So, they weren't the ones pushing for the 2-buck limit or even the 1-buck limit, it was a minority group who are nothing but trophy hunters and they think by reducing the number of bucks harvested we will see larger racked bucks. This minority group went to commission meetings and pushed their agenda, at the beginning they wanted a one buck limit, finally they settle to push for a 2-buck limit. Again, the car insurance companies, I do not believe, would ever entertain a one buck or two buck limit, I am sure they would want to see the 3-buck limit stay. We will see how it goes this year, might even take another year, and maybe the commission can be convinced that they were wrong. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Dan, I really like mine and have practiced with it and used it twice to hunt. At this time in my life I can still pull back my Bowtech Assassin and Bowtech Zion. I will continue to hunt with them, and if I get one with the compound, then I will pick up the X4. Now of course, at my age, I know there is going to come a time I can't pull the compound back and will have to rely on the X4. They are nice crossbows for sure. Good luck this season.
I know that there are counties that are over populated with does. Sometimes I wonder though if it is because no one wants to shoot them because all they are concerned with is trying to get a trophy buck during bow season. I know some hunters who are like that, they will let does walk just because they want a huge buck. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie
Thanks!! Love having the range in the woods instead of the back field. At least now we can shoot in the shade and not be standing out in an open field. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Thanks, appreciate that. I could do better, but that is what practice is for. It was a lot of fun setting those targets in the woods. We had been practicing for the past several years with them in the field. This is more realistic. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
TV has ruined hunting as it was meant to be. Well, I won't say all TV hunting, back in the early years, before the Outdoor Channel, some of the hunting shows that were on TV showed real hunting. Nothing like you see now, there are no deer camps, it is all about trophies and pushing the commercialism of hunting. Don't get me wrong, I watched the Outdoor Channel every chance I got, then I realized, this isn't real hunting. Now I don't watch the channel at all. This buck limit change wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for all those people who have watched the Outdoor Channel and think that hunting is about getting a trophy on every hunt. The real hunting experience of having a camp, whether it is in the back of a pickup truck with a topper, a canvas tent, or a pull behind camper, or a cabin in the woods is all being lost. Our biologists told the commission that there was no need to reduce the buck limit from 3 to 2, but that minority group of ego seekers convinced them that it was needed. @@glenndiehl6181 that is a shame. That is what hunting has become. It sure isn't like it used to be. If you pulled into a checking station or at camp with a 4 point or a spike, you were greeted with smiles, handshakes and congrats for your harvest. Now you do that you get shunned. I feel with all my heart this is what the Outdoor Channel and all those different hunting shows has done to a pastime that Jerod and I love. Hunt what you want to hunt and give thanks to the good Lord for providing.
Well, I bought my lifetime license back in 1995, so I haven't bought a license in almost 30 years. But I have bought extra bow tags, and extra buck tag for rifle season. No more, other than buying the extra rifle tag. The biggest reason I am buying it is so when my son and I are at deer camp, if I get one lets say the first day, I can go back out with him so he doesn't hunt alone. He does the same in case he would get one, he can go back out so I am not hunting alone. We are up at camp for a week, and we enjoy being up there and being out hunting together. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
@@WesternPAhunting we are still planning to wait to go out. We feel that it is to warm. Might be a mistake, but it was nice when season opened in October instead of September.
Matt, Jerod and I had talked about doing this about a month or so after we setup the bow range in the field. We just never got around to it until now. Makes a world of difference getting out there and practicing. No more standing in an open field in the sun during the summer to shoot. Now we can be in the shade in the woods. Also, so much more realistic. Yep, might just have to take him up in the stand when hunting just so he can tell me if my arrow hit the deer or is laying in the leaves!! LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
I love the new view backpack! My wife took it away from me.😂 I’m gonna get another one. To be able to get your hands warm is huge when staying out in the winter! My hands and feet are my biggest issue! THIS IS ONE I MEED TO TRY!
We love the backpacks that New View Hunting sent us. We actually have one for archery season, and one for rifle season that we use. I also have one that I plan to make my camping backpack. Just haven't gotten around to taking the stuff for camping out of an old backpack that I use. Glad my wife isn't into my hunting stuff, she might just take mine away from me. LOL As for the hand muffs, the ones we had last year were awesome, even if they weren't the heated ones. These new ones that are heated are going to be a game changer for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting, Cornbread. Juddie
Yes sir 👍 nice video guys. Never hurts to mess around in the woods with your targets. What did ya ever find out with the rash? Thanks for taking us along!!
Thanks, Dan. We have wanted to do this for a long time, even before Jerod and Louisa got the farm. Ever since we shot in a 3D range that the WV Bow Hunters Association had. We just never had woods. Then when they moved to the farm we have our chance now. The past few years shooting in the field was nice except always being in the sun. Don't know how many times we got sunburns. LOL Oh, the rash, actually I got into some Virginia Creeper, and apparently I am allergic to it. I had to go to the doctor get a shot and take some pills for 5 days. I kept the blisters covered, and also had calamine lotion on it. It is all better now, the blisters have gone and it has quit spreading. Thanks for asking, and thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Yes, it is Brian. Good luck to you this year. I think we are dialed in, I just need to take my time and remember tilt at the waist don't drop my arm. LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Thanks, Jason. It is almost time, needed to get some practice in and we didn't want to shoot in the field, to much sun and heat!! LOL Moved the targets and now we can shoot and not worry about the sun beating down on us. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
We had talked about it when we first set the range up in the field. Finally made it happen. It was fun shooting, and the one thing we had shade. LOL Just do it. That is what we did. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Looks like a great day at the farm. Got to love those young eyes! Great to spend time with family, and the dogs seemed to enjoy napping in the shade.Great video thank you for taking us along I need to get some practice in myself.
It was, Jr. Yes, ole Colton could see that nock light and ole pa-paw and dad couldn't see it. I knew where the leaves kicked up, and never thought that it went to the right after hitting the ground. Yep, the kids got to play on their swings and gadgets on that play system that Jerod and Louisa got them while watching us shoot the bows. The dogs had been back and forth from the field to the range there several times as we moved targets, so they were tired for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
I love to hunt with my rim fire rifles for squirrels. After years of using a shotgun to get them, the rim fire makes it a little more challenging. Hope you heal up quickly, there is nothing worse than missing hunting season! Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Thanks, Steve. Well, that day it was my first time having my bow out since last season. Everything is good on my bow, my problem is from, that is why I hit the bottom of the target. From where we are shooting, it would be like being in a tree stand, you have to bind at the waist, not drop your arm. LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
It was, for sure. Something Jerod and I had talked about for years. Many years ago, Jerod was probably still in high school we shot a WV Bow Hunters Association 3-D range and loved shooting that. His wife, girlfriend at the time, kept the score card for us. I think that range had anywhere from 12 to 15 different 3-D targets to shoot at, various animals and different scenarios. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
@@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures Yes sir. I used to shoot 3D tournaments all the time back in the late 80s and early 90s. Had a blast!! Unfortunately the shoulders won't let me shoot any more.
@@hillbillyridgeoutdoors it sucks getting old, don't it! I don't know how many more years I will be able to pull back the compound, but when that day comes, I have the Wicked Ridge crossbow that I can fall back on.
It sure is, Todd. Yes, it does give it more of a realistic advantage and with small saplings and briers here and the makes you feel like you're really hunting instead of shooting a target in the field. Glad you like it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
We all need that!! LOL The one video that I didn't shoot was the second time I shot and lost an arrow. It actually broke the arrow!! I didn't think it was broke until I went to recover it. I saw the lighted nock, and when I went to pick it up it was only the back half of the arrow. Ole dad needs more practice. LOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
We have done that a lot over the years!! LOL Now we have a new tool in the arsenal, I just got a metal detector. Hopefully that will help in some of the recoveries of missed shots! LOL Thanks for watching and commenting, Keith. Juddie
We are down to 5 days and WV season will be open, Mike. Jerod and I have talked and we are going to hold off going out until about the 2nd or 3rd weekend in October. That was the time our bow season actually opened before the DNR brought in the early opening day. Good luck to you.
You got that right, Foggy. Jerod and I was talking yesterday, that we might make the hammocks part of our packs. The packs we use to check cameras. That way when we go to camp to check cameras up on the mountain, if we want, we can string up the hammocks and just spend a day up there. Nothing better.
It was awesome, Todd. The night was perfect and of course a lot of times we have our tunes with us. Well, of course, we don't take our tunes when we are hunting. But doing things down there on the farm, making places to just get out of house and enjoy nature is a lot of fun.
They are nice, hope you like it. Thanks for the information. My other Deerfamy tent stove (black), that I reviewed last fall, it didn't come with a dampener pipe, and I ordered one off of Amazon for it. So, I measured the pipe diameter just make sure I ordered the right one. The other stove, black, has the same pipe as this stainless steel one. I guess if I needed a few more sections of pipe when using one, I could take the pipe from the other. LOL But it is good to know the size of the pipe for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting, and I hope you enjoy that stove. Juddie
Your spot on brother. Unless it’s a case of over harvesting the deer population there’s no reason for this limit. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts Juddie.
