Hi friends, I have been flying since I learned how to bum airplane rides at the old Russell and Luck airfields from about age 10 in 1964 and onward. I would ride my bicycle from my home in Everman Texas to the old Oak Grove airport, about 13 miles, or to Luck airfield, about 11 miles or to Russell airfield, about 11 miles and stay from daylight to dark. Russell was by far the best venue of all for a kid to learn the ways of sport aviation. I have been an airport bum ever since. I soloed a 1946 Aeronca Champ at 16, Earned my Private Pilot License at 17, Studied engineering between 18 and 24. Still learning even today. Earned my Airframe and Powerplant license at 24 and built my first airplane by age 25, Owned a Pitts Special and flew contest aerobatics in my 30s, and have built and repaired more sport airplanes than you can shake a stick at, and now at age 64, I am still in love with Sport aviation in all its facets. Welcome to my channel.
This is my first time viewing your videos, I am impressed on this video. I Love seeing a flight like this one. Awesome video!! I lived in White Settlement, and I think I know where this airport is located. I have seen many planes landing on it while driving on the highway.
Hi, most days I set to field elevation however when I go do aerobatics I zero the altimeter for reasons you can imagine. I zero'd it out on this flight trying to nail certain altitudes in the pattern I wanted to hit with accuracy, having poor luck as it turns out. 🙂
Hey Dwain! Saw your appearance in Jimmy’s video and wanted to check out this channel! Fly a 1959 Comanche 250 out of KRBD with my son! Hopefully meet you at a local fly in some day.
What really impresses me about the Flybaby is that it was originally a monoplane but lent itself well to becoming a biplane! I have plans for an RC model called Southern Belle. I have built her as the low wing, open cockpit that she is, and she's an absolute sweetheart in the air, but i'm going to build another one as a biplane just like a Flybaby.
Thanks for the flight..its always great to be in the front seat with you...hope to enjoy more in the future...like the beard..see you on the next flight..take care and fly smart.
Hi Dwain, just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos. I have been flying for the last 19 years and although I have never flown one, the Cub has always been my absolute favorite.
Dwain its great to be back in the flying seat again ..its been way to long...and its good to see that you seem to be doing well..thank you for your time and the flight...MERRY CHRISTMAS..
It’s nice to see such good pattern work. I was always doing a lot of fixing up turning base to final. I don’t see that here. Frankly I loved doing slips, so it was a good excuse to do them.I flew my first 16 hrs in a cub and frankly that and the next 5 in a citabria were the only I enjoyed.
Hi, yes, I was wondering if anyone would catch that. That was an air ambulance type helicopter crossing the airport from north east to southwest going to the Cleburne Hospital that you can see north of the lake. He radioed his intentions so I was looking out for him. This is a common occurrence at Cleburne. You have sharp eyes my friend! 🙂
Yes, I thought it might have been a helo, and I said to myself, I'm sure Dwain had eyes on him. My dad taught me many years ago that your head needs to stay on a swivel constantly when flying. I'm still that way to this very day. These people with their IPads and gadgets scare the devil out of me. EYES belong outside. Great videos!!!@@19Cub
Finely a video about airplanes with airplanes in it and no "D" music just engine sound. Keep up the good work and enjoy. I was wrong at 4:48 skipped t the end
Dwain I do not know if you are still around. I am old too, but the long winded stuff makes me regret the click. Yet, I click again, but I never can watch to the end. Piet builder here.
WELL ANDRE, I TRULY AM SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY. I DO MY BEST BUT SOME TIMES ONES BEST CAN NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR SOME FOLKS. I hope you can find a channel that has less long winded stuff that annoys you to distraction. I sincerely hope you can find videos more suitable to your liking. Dwain
Before you Dis a brother state, think twice. Lots of glider pilots out here and I'm sure we can find plenty of crooked politicians in your zone. Look, we are the United States of America and the talk in this video only serves to put us closer to armed conflict. Remember who our real enemies are - you know, like Putin! After more than 50 years as a pilot, I am crushed that I have to hear such hateful language from my fellow pilots. Shame.
Good to see you Dwain ! Glad to see you are well and enjoying life ...thank for taking the drive and sharing the video...wish we were able to have had some fly along with you this past summer ...hopefully we will in the future...take care.
