One thing I dont like at all is how every single damn review on youtube has to have the latest and most powerful gpu rtx 4090. Not a single video abt a lower tier 4080 considering the huge 900$ price gap between the 2 configurations, and also the fact that the upgrade is certainly not worth and most people would go with the rtx 4080 either way.
I just double checked on my m18 r2 -- I plugged in/out the AC cable 10 times in a row while running Elden Ring and it didn't reboot, no problems. Yours must have had a faulty PSU or the motherboard.
I got the newer version (of course by now I would imagine this is an ancient laptop being 1 year old) but I got it around $1500. Would that be a good price for a laptop this caliber in today’s standards?
i wish your reviews contained more detailed information on the cooling capacity. namely, what's the maximum sustained wattage that the cooling system is capable of dissipating long term. also information on bios is very important for gaming laptops, especially if you're planning to use linux: ideally you want to set up all overclocking/undervolting in the bios without messing with any of the windows bloatware that the laptop ships with. i also want to see more emphasis put into repairability analysis: how hard is the laptop to take apart? how hard is it to repaste it? how robust are the I/O ports that are usually the first to break (power and audio jacks)? not just this model, I wish every laptop review had more in-depth information like this.
And I just added foam to my crappy deepcool x6 at 1000rpm😅😅. From 100 to 85° cpu /70 gpuno throttling, full 4.5ghz all the way 🤑🤑🤑. But I will try this Llano soon 😊. Msi pulse 15 : i7 13620h 32 gig/4070. Sadly the cpu fan is smaller than the gpu side 😢.
I think my laptop have a problem, my screen freeze for a second or two after i open a game and there is a sound like of disconnect usb, can someone help?
here's an update for m18 r2: - they removed the max power options from both bios and the AWCC - undervolting options are severely nuked (can't put more than 15mV which makes it pretty much useless) - however, the TCC(thermal offset) works really well. I just put it to 15C in AWCC and it keeps the CPU temp at 100-15=85C very reliably - even better, setting the TCC and the fan profile under windows seems to carry over to linux! - AWCC seems to override bios settings overall my experience gaming on m18 r2 is so far very positive: all peripherals worked right off the bat (i'm on NixOS(don't use it if you're a beginner, use linux mint or something like that)), no drivers needed, all steam games work decently well.
this video really needs an update for m18 v2 version, as its bios exposes fewer parameters to play with. i'm also interested to see which OS options are available under linux and also which options i can set under windows and carry over into linux.
Thank you so much for the review of the titan. I was going to buy this laptop as so many videos have hyped it up to be this beast. But the Asus seems to be the more sensible option. Your video highlights things that others don't. Much appreciated I will now sub you. Max respect

Good video. That handheld gaming device seems far more reasonably priced than the likes of PC handhelds. And most phones. Though, I do wonder if you can get like an older flagship phone or gaming phone for ~$150. That would be a better option since it would do what the handheld can but also be a phone. Do you think you can review some gaming vertical mice? They, as I heard, are more comfortable to hold and use. Would love to hear your thoughts on them because I was looking towards a wireless vertical mouse from kensington.
Yeah, phones are the jack of all trades. I would have to use one of those controllers that the phone attaches too. Send me a link to the mouse you are wanting to test. Perhaps I can buy it and mail it to you afterwards if it isn't too expensive
Yeah but you also have mice like Logitech G502 X LIGHTSPEED with is over 100g and is wireless. I moved to it from G Pro Wireless and this extra weight don't bother me at all.
thanks a lot for your responses 🙏 , still I have one more question , when im putting balanced mode wich is the recommended plan from win , it gaves me the best results, less temp ans less noise and more fps unlike the balance +ai mode or performance mode that's giving me 12c more on temp , fps slightly better but maybe 10-15 more fps only and the fan are noise , how it can be ?
Are you talking about the balanced mode within windows itself or the balanced mode in the advantage software? I think in my testing I switched the windows power profile to high performance but I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference. Certainly the AI in their software ups the CPU power in game which results in a higher temperature and depending on how your cooling is it may throttle if it goes above 95 degrees. Mine cooled quite well, although there were instances where I saw the CPU go above 95. Also, it is very game dependant so you may see one result in one game and you may get something different in another. I tested the AI in 4 games if I recall and all 4 were faster (and hotter) than standard balanced mode.
@@OWNORDISOWN I have gaming laptop and i encounter similar problem. Some app even igpu can handle with easy, it still uses dGPU. Mine at list have light indecator, beside lenovo has light indicator when gpu is used, i think
RU-vid suddenly suggested this video to me, and I really enjoyed it. I miss the time when this laptop came out; it gave me a nostalgic feeling. Thanks, Stephen!
hi, ive done the same exact steps and have seen no improvement in temperatures, i used the same thermal paste. cpu reaches 100c and gpu throttles at 86c. does anyone know what could be the issue, fans and debris are all clear. the only thing i haven't changed it the thermal pads but was wandering if ive missed anything before i replace them
i just bought a x17 R2 refurbished laptop after using it i found overheating issue (100C Alwas ) after brief recerch i found 2 solution that help me a lot 40c on idle and 70c Max 1 options - Disable turbo max in bios 2 options - dont install AWCC thats it
Man that price is in different regions. I paid 2175, 2376 after tax for this exact model two weeks ago. I literally put it side to side with a 2024 rog strix scar 16 and there was a slight difference but the scar will blind you. The screen is actually good and the pro 7i performance was better than the scar for less money.
@@OWNORDISOWN Well according to louis rossmann, if you put a desktop gpu in a laptop, it will die in 2 years. Since his legion has a desktop 1660ti, it should've died 2 years ago and is a meme on account of being a gaming laptop. Looks like he defeated the laws of physics stephen.
Great review stephen. Sad to see the vapor chamber go wasted on the pathetic rtx ''4080''. This laptop can easily handle a 230w 4080 desktop and retain 95% of its performance. The acer helios predator went down to $1600 recently packing a 4080 and i9 13900hx. You can do the smokeless bios method to unlock undervolting (screw acer for blocking that). Its made of metal too. I can't justify spending 2x more for just a better cpu mainly. Lenovo should offer a ryzen hs version. I'd imagine it would last 9 to 10hr if they optimize it. Can you talk about the downgrades and baffeling decisions lenovo has been doing? Worse build on some models, worse designs on others, worse ports/selection, etc.?
Thanks Eric! Certainly I think they need to freshen up their Legion laptops. They have kept them the same for years. I have two more Lenovo laptops to review.
@@OWNORDISOWN I don't mind the design of some of the older legions. But the problem is the price. If these designs stay the same, then surely the production cost would lower over the years. If that happens then lenovo can constantly reduce the price or keep the price the same which will greatly help offset nvidia's higher gpu prices. They could start offering more OLED options, etc. Because if you see the nitro's, they've stepped up massively. To the point of rivaling some of the older legions in most aspects including build.
Personally I think it makes sense to buy the last Gen for a $1000 less. Perhaps the Rtx 5000 models that will be released early 2025 will be up to 40% better? What price will they be? It seems to me that pricing is getting out of hand. The 14900HX doesn't bring much extra to the table that's for sure.
I do not consider this an all aluminum build. It's just thin sheets of aluminum folded around a plastic chassis as can be seen in the teardown. Just a very cheaply made laptop for the money. Especially considering the Zephyrus and Blade series.
I have the gen 8 and it's still insane after a better LM repaste. probably the best high performer on the market. with some tuning was able to get 32000 cinebench out of the 13900k
That is pretty awesome. With laptops like that I could perhaps get rid of my desktop totally. My 5950X is at around 30k in CB23 so having a laptop topping that :-D Nice stuff.
@@InnocentiusLacrimosa i have a 12900k / 4080 desktop that had a drive failure right before a trip, so i worked on the laptop. It's been 6 months since the desktop has been booted. Just never missed it and the laptop did everything i needed the desktop to do so not sure if I'll sell it after a drive swap or upgrade it. Never thought I'd be typing these words
@@ManleyReviews thank you for that perspective. I am now truly starting to wonder if I could be in that same situation at some point soon (perhaps already on the next upgrade cycle). Laptop cpus are finally getting powerful enough to handle my work tasks also. Laptop GPUs are also almost there (if Nvidia would not cheap on that). Anyhow, you provided some food for thought to me.
