Excellent video! You obviously spent quite a bit of time with numerous tests and informative charts. I'm not totally sold on the price point yet though. I like the keyboards and the noise sounds fine to me. Thanks!!!

Great review! I've used an Eluktronics Prometheus 17 3080 laptop for the last 2 years as a desktop replacement. I do game graphics for a living and this laptop has been very reliable and proven to be powerful enough to do real graphics work. The LPP is a must.

A comprehensive video. Thanks for the hard work. A couple of observations. Fan noise is very high without the LPP, among the highest, yet thermal throttling is still experienced. That's not the case with many of the competition. The LPP is obviously a must have accessory with this unit. Secondly, an all-plastic chassis at this price point seems a bit ridiculous. Again, the competition is offering better for the same price. It's good to see Tong Fang continue to iterate on this design. However, I believe there is still room for improvement.

I have the Cyberpowerpc Tracer vii and it seems quieter than this. Eluktronics has the prema bios and it's undervolted 125mv. The cpu runs at a higher clock rate and is hotter than mine.

@@OWNORDISOWN Interesting. I appreciate Eluktronics pushing performance to the limit; however, they may have pushed a little too much in this case. The 16 inch performance was surprising. I don't think I've seen such a delta from other companies.

Thanks for all the work! Is this unit similar to the Clevo reviewed in terms of being stutter free or did it behave more like the other 40 series units reviewed?
@OWNORDISOWN
@OWNORDISOWN 11 месяцев назад
Thanks! Chris said it did have occasional stutters but Eluktronics rolled our a firmware update and it would stutter worse, sometimes stuck for few seconds. I have the Tracer Vii which is the same Mech 17 as this but supplied by Cyberpowerpc, minus the prema bios. That stutters a bit in Hogwarts but seems okay elsewhere. I will be talking about that unit as it too wasn't without issues as I RMA'd it twice. Chris and I were on the phone, doing a quick SOTTR benchmark and his Mech crashed during it.

I personally own the Mech 15 G3 (2022) this one is only air cooled and have it under bolted the CPU between 20-25Watts, and the Graphics card (3080 undervolted at 115w I usually get 80 Celsius with the fans turned 100%) Im super curious to see what the performance would be by undervolting this model. Depending on that and the amount of noise that I would get i would consider buying this model. I thank you for the review

@greebj
@greebj 11 месяцев назад
I would have loved to get my hands on one of these and try to make a better WC heatsink to improve the cooling and really unleash the power of Prema. Loop-on-heatpipe just isn't very effective, (I tried it in one of my early mods, watercooling can do SO MUCH MORE than this 10%/10C!) But in the end I just couldn't justify the $5500+ AUD the Mech 16 or 17 would cost me... maybe later this year or the next. Better WC cooling will also allow a far better noise profile. My own WC mod reduces noise from 60dba at reduced power limits (to avoid thermal throttling) to well below 40dBa even when drawing 400+W from this 17" Clevo with 9900K+2x1080M. It's just really sad they went to all this trouble designing everything so well and then half baked the actual contact between the WC loop and the heatsink. It could have been incredible and really blown away all the competition. Also another way to test the effectiveness of temperature reduction is to aim an IR temp gun at the keyboard and compare at full load the with/without LPP temps.
@OWNORDISOWN
@OWNORDISOWN 11 месяцев назад
Thanks. I can do a thermal image of the keyboard when I review my Tracer VII. Do you fancy doing a live stream to show off your mode on your Clevo? You can talk us through all the hurdles you had to overcome. I think it would be interesting

In the product details for these laptops it says that the RAM can be overclocked to 6400. How is this done - is it a simple toggle in the BIOS?

Great video as always very informative. I will say I'm not sure if I would like the inputs and ports on the back of the chassis. Feel like I'd have to move the laptop around just to plug in the power cord since seeing the input would be hard . Guess if I used that setup for a while I'd get used to it The chassis is nice on both of the laptops though visually I'd love to have either LoL but man $3k... Just to much for me. Wish I was rich

@iamdalibor 11 месяцев назад
@@OWNORDISOWN Wow you RMA'd twice that is wild. Talk about bad luck. I don't blame you prices on some of these laptops are pricey as can be. Personally i don't think I'd ever spend $1k for a laptop. For that money I'd buy a nice desktop. Then with that rig you could not only use it to make videos and game but even mine some crypto currency here and there. Plus desktops are easier to work on and give you more upgradability options. Plus better cooling Although laptops are really convenient as well... Choices choices LoL

Not much here for actual use and what the laptop feels like to use. At 10:35 you use the LPP/water cooling for "Beast" mode on the Mech16, when I think the point is to use beast mode without LPP?
@OWNORDISOWN
@OWNORDISOWN 11 месяцев назад
Why do you say that? Beast mode has higher power limits so one would think that would require more cooling? To be honest, I have the Cyberpowerpc Tracer vii and I don't need to use the water cooler at all, although the mech is faster because of the tweaks in the prema bios
@TabalugaDragon
@TabalugaDragon 11 месяцев назад
Like I said to TOM from XMG when this year's version just came out, I'm really disappointed by the heatpipe design this year. Last year's design was nearly perfect. All they had to do is add a magnetic connector to it. But for some reason, ths year the LPP heatpipes barely touch the CPU, which results in high temps even with LPP connected while CPU power limits aren't impressive at all. How is alienware able to achieve much higher CPU power limits in combined loads with just air cooling than this laptop when it has the luxury of water cooling? Cooling a GPU is nice, but what's the point if it will mostly be bottlenecked by the slow CPU? In GPU-only(or gaming at 4k) workloads this is great, in combined loads like gaming at 1440p with high fps this is really disappointing. Thanks for the video!
@OWNORDISOWN
@OWNORDISOWN 11 месяцев назад
Thanks Sergei! Yes, I agree , the CPU needs the water cooling too. That being said, my Tracer VII (exact same machine minus the prema bios) runs cooler. 125W in CB R23, but is a bit slower than the Mech.

@@Freshone48 The speakers seem fine to me, although I always wear a headset. On the few occasions I did use the speakers nothing about them gave me a negative feeling and nothing about them gave me "wow" feeling, they're just fine, but it's hard for me to give a good opinion on them because I always wear a headset. The fan noise is surprisingly not loud at all, especially with the liquid cooler working in conjunction, it's very quiet. I'm extremely happy with it, I've had it for a year, I can run games like Flight Simulator on ultra settings no problem. The build quality is top notch, if they make a 5090 version in the future I'll be buying that as well. It's a steep price tag but that's to be expected when it's one of the most powerful laptops available.

Yeah. One of my earliest laptop WC mods was tube-over-heatpipe and its just not that effective especially for CPUs (I got only +100mhz out of a 3940XM or like +10-15W of cooling). I got much better results when soldering the tube to the heatplate (turned weeny 65W P370EM GPU heatsinks into ones that could run 1070M's at 170W TGP at 70C)
@flat_stickproductions209
@flat_stickproductions209 11 месяцев назад
Its also very much a subpar cooling solution, it rides thermal throttle on both CPU and GPU without liquid while others can out perform this whole setup even when it has liquid. It is just an absolute horrid package this year, bad on TongFang for tossing it together and just thinking we would fall for it.
