awesome video! i agree with a lot of your points - the akumetsu duo did an insanely good job not only translating a mazinger narrative into a modern manga, but also honouring go nagai’s writing style while also dialing it to the extreme. i also do agree that at times the extremities of this manga can be a little … too much (e.g., the overtly sexual nature) but it doesn’t take away from the narrative at all, as it - in of itself - is relevant to honouring nagai’s work, and i can appreciate that, as much as i’d rather it wasn’t as prevalent. i personally vastly prefer the sequel; not because it’s any less vulgar (because it isn’t) but because of the expanded narrative, the elevation of its themes, and leaning into being a love letter of all things mecha. once again, loved watching this vid!
I've always loved how expansive the UC has become. It can get a little jumbled up with whats goes where and whats canon or not, but I LOVE that there are so many different angles and sides to the conflict. The fact that someone can write a compelling story about the adventures of a supposed one-offer like Flannagan Boone says alot, let alone a piece of really fascinating Psychological horror!
Jupiter is lacking water? Excuse me but Europa, a moon of said planet is literally an ocean under ice. (at least double the water amount of Earth) Even if the water under the ice is salty the ice can still be used or I want to assume by the time of the Universal Century they figured out a way to remove salt from salt water.
Yeah I'm not sure the universe logic for that, but in chapter 4 there's a big fight over Tobia giving a young girl water. One of the doctors says "Even if it's for a patient, everyone's water and oxygen must be rationed!" Maybe it's just Crux Dogatie taking the water for himself, but either way I promise I didn't just make it up lol.
@@NopeMechs I figured you didn't I'm just baffled at the manga's statement. There is a stupidly large amount of water in space (after all aren't those resource asteriods used for colony construction where they get water from too?), hell there is plenty of oxygen that can be harvested from Jupiter itself too. One would think a sci-fi series would at least lean more to the science part too.
Wait - what was that game shown during the last few seconds? Not Rice and Ruin, there was a mech game at the very end that seemed a little interesting?
Hey i just want to make you aware of Linebarrels of Iron. Specifically the manga! I commented something similar on the fafnir video, but given youre actually covering mazinger zero which is a manga, i think its appropriate to mention linebarrels of iron. There was an anime created but it doesnt adapt the story properly and the plot changes entirely from the manga. I really like the main character's character development and surprising scifi plot twists.
I know so many niche mecha stuff that nobody covers and I'm so happy your channel exists. I really really really want to make you aware of linebarrels of iron. The manga is awesome!!! The anime is not. They did not adapt the same story line and is extremely lame. I see nobody on RU-vid talking about the manga at all. It's awesome. Really cool middle ground between super and real robot.
I'm glad you like the channel 😄 That's good to know about linebarrel. I've really been enjoying manga more than anime lately so I'll think about covering it soon.
I always saw Amuro as a tragic character. He was placed under house arrest instead of being celebrated/congratulated for his efforts during the one year war. He suffers ptsd during the gryps conflict and being pushed to fight in a mobile suit when he CLEARLY was not ready. Then he dies in chars rebellion. It just seems like he never really got to live his life the way he wanted. Perhaps if he had left the federation, that would have been possible. However, due to their corruption, he might’ve thought it would be irresponsible to step away and was trying to change them from within alongside Bright Noa.
A lot of people hated Shakti. While you do have some points as to why she's an okay character, the biggest gripe people have with her is that she makes a lot of dumb decisions. One example is that she decides to jeopardize a mission by releasing a captured soldier in order to be taken back to Zanscare in order to try and convince the army to stop, while also to somehow help people who are sick.... Yeah she willingly gets herself kidnapped, thinking that a little girl like her with little to no political power can somehow end a conflict. Side note: Shakti is actually 11 years old. As for the feminist aspect of the show, it demonstrates the negative and positives. The Shrike Team is a positive representation, where they work along side men and are supportive. The Zanscare is the negative aspect, where they blame men for the Earth's problems, are selfish, and unhinged. Not to mention being used by others for their own personal gains. Maria wants women to take on the roles of men but failed to realize that doing so, the women would also take on the evils of men. Griffin is a psychopath, Lupe is a PDF File, Katejina is an attention seeker, etc. Someone once said that the major theme of the show is depression, where things seem bleak and hopeless, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel if you're optimistic and keep on moving. Tomino was going through a depression at the time so it kinda makes sense.
Thank you for covering gundam manga! I normally stay on the anime side of things but I love 08 MS Team and want more in any medium. Also love discovering new gundam manga through your channel has been sick! keep it up!
