Fafner Franchise | Evangelion Meets Gundam Seed? | Impressions + Review

I completely forgot about fafner. I remember it during the mid 2000s but not much since there were other mecha series that were catching my attention during those times like Gundam 00, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, Gun X Sword, Gurren Lagann, but i remember the characters looking similar to SEED characters. Thanks for reminding about this series. Also Votoms is pretty good if you're used to old anime like me.

Funnily enough, I like Fafner. It's basically the best mecha anime of the 2000s, even outing Gundam 00 and Macross Frontier (two incredibly awesome shows I might add).

OG Fafner fan here. You have no idea how right you are regarding the early Western fandom never having all of the information. It DID get better eventually but those early days were rough. Most Fafner fans congregated on LiveJournal of all things. Livejournal! That really says how old I am, doesn't it? There is the quality shift about mid-way through the series due to the shift in lead writers that I feel like greatly contributed to the shift with regards to the quality (which in itself lines up to where things actually start getting revealed in-universe too) There is a light novel adaption by the second lead writer covering the early stuff that does flesh out the characters early on from my understanding but since I've never read it, I can't say for sure. Fun fact about the CG in the movie though: The CGI in Heaven and Earth was actually done by what would later become Orange; the animation company responsible for stuff like Majestic Prince's CGI, Land of the Lustrous, Beastars, Trigun Stampede, etc. If you've seen those, you'll know why Orange CGI(tm) is typically praised.

I agree with Fafner being Gundam Seed characters in Evangelion setting but the difference is the main protagonist is not a crybaby.

fafner in the spot light im happy naah bro dont be sorry, if anything im sorry if it was too much of a burden. i just really appreciate ur perspective and ur time for this from my request. i obv knew reccomeding it was a gamble and my passion to the show wouldnt be the same. i hear u and totally respect ur opinon. i like it that way, its more real and generates disscustions around fafner i was going in blind, no expectations and no prior knowledge to fafner series but yea we had similar issues with 2004 fafner at first was slow/boring, same face problem, not really explaning a lot of stuff/important stuff and i totally agree with ur take regarding the early digital era of animation is really off putting, even some older anime is better. after the switch up i was really invested by its characters, story, mysterys, world, etc. later half was A LOT of reading between the lines in the dialogue to have the puzzle pieces fit. by the end i had a lot of questions in a good way and got them answerd by another fans and bc of them got even more intressted. when i got to Exodus i really fell in love with the franshise, characters, story, world, robots, mystery, OST, all of it. for me exodus didnt lean to the mystery as it previously did but instead choose to write more personal abt the characters conflicts or realationships. really enjoyed to see characters to actually grow up and mature, was really fun seeing what other stuff they be doing outside of fighting fafners/enemys/handaing ship. for me it felt like every character was important or a big role on how the story was gonna progress, very emotinal when my favorite character passed. its just my peak here for beyond ill be short beyond had really big shoes to fill from exodus, i didnt think beyond did it very well but i think its still great on its own to tell its short personal story abt "new" Soushi. the timeskips in beyond didnt bother me bc for every new fafner anime there is bascilly a timeskip. (take this with lil salt bc watched it while back) open to disscustions abt fafner or other shows again i really appreciate u and ur time watching, editing, recording, reading, etc thank u. and for the tag

I only know I watched Dead Aggressor because I've still got the OP's lyrics memorized. I wish I were kidding, but I could not tell you the name of a single character or plot point in that series but Angela's "Shangri-La" just stuck around in my head seemingly forever. Could probably play it on the piano if I were so inclined.

Yeah. The first Fafner anime is a rather boring mecha anime if you want giant robot battles. Also for "Right or Left", I will say this. What a good dog 😭

I may be in the minority but I'll take Votoms over Victory Gundam every day. That said I'll take Victory over Fafner - I didn't even finish the 1st season of that. Thank you for letting me know what I did/didn't miss out on.
