a car radiator with electric fan between the cyclone filter and the main fine filter to cool and condense water vapours works well, most radiators have a convienient tap to drain them on the lower tank , making water/creasote extraction easy , if the catch jar is held at intake vacumn pressure then the take-off can be automatic, nice gasifier btw
"Have to get a feel for it," my rear end! I'd say you started out with a pretty good feel, just by getting it to fire up at all! I couldn't begin to list the things I'd've gotten wrong and or count the number of times I'd meet with utter failure before getting it to run. Amazing feat of back-yard engineering. More than just prove it can be done, I think I'd try to make it practical, and have a vehicle designated for wood gas, and make big batches of wood gas, store it in a big tank or tanks at the homestead, and put a permanent tank in the vehicle that I could fill at the pump. I think propane tanks and fittings will work. Making the gas at a permanent facility would allow you to add big, bulky improvements to the quality of the wood distillate. Better, more efficient hearth. Pumps. Bigger/better filters. I guess there's a "methanation" process, where they run the wood gas through a nickel honeycomb catalyst to produce methane that is pretty much the same as fossil-sourced natural gas. There are people in Canada and Scandinavia working on this. Very practical way to power vehicles in wooded areas. Might be easier to just buy a rig set up to run on natural gas and then make your own high-grade natural gas at the homestead. I think I would make the gas separate from the vehicle, and marry the wood gas to the vehicle with tanks of wood gas, or maybe just fill the vehicle tank from a larger tank at home base. That would make the vehicle relatively normal to use, and you'd probably get better consistency, making it in batches at home. Still it's cool to have a rig set up this way. The idea of cutting down trees and making your fuel as you go is pretty cool. :o)
What the purpose of the vertical stainless steel tubes around the outer casing of the hopper.. please explain the purpose and there the connect to or dain to? Why so many tubes
Moisture from the wood (wood vinegar) condenses on the wall of the hopper. On the inside of the hopper there is a gutter and the tubes connect to the gutter. At the lowest point, there is a collection tank for the liquid. Some of the liquid is watery and some of it is like tar.
Watch the Wayne Kieth video where he shows how he adjusts his timing with a cable when he switches over to woodgas. Timing won't change on its own bases off of fuel, its mechanical. The distributor needs to be turned to advance it to make get the efficiency up.
That's nice for vehicles like my Lumina APV that has a mechanical distributor. But I have a feeling that newer vehicles that are programmed as "Flex Fuel" vehicles will be measuring combustion impulse and adjusting timing to accommodate fuels with a different burn rate. I'm told that E85 has a slower flame.
Ignition timing needs to be advanced similar to a dirt track engine on alcohol. I was not able to do it on the dodge 4.7 and a secondary computer didn’t interface. I should have used a vortec engine from the start., the obd2 timing is doable with the added computer
@@wkweasel Copy that. I think the timing advance makes a huge difference as well as higher compression ratio's.. similar to propane. Higher Octane. Hope get to see some more vids soon.
@@shaundevine1030 That 's exactly how it is .I turn the trambler 3-4 degrees earlier and milled the cylinder head by 4 mm. Here's my car ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pXXIQfsguvk.html
No, when the price of fuel dropped to just over $2 I couldn’t justify the labor to prep fuel. 3 hrs labor to save $15 in gas doesn’t excite me. I removed the gasified and put it in my shop and sold the truck. If the price of fuel skyrockets I will put the gasifier in a Chevy. The late model dodge with the 4.7 was a mistake.
This is a few years late, but CONGRATULATIONS. I'm certain you were beaming that day as I am sitting here feeling proud of your achievement. I want to build one for my old truck and i might take a stab at it soon. cheers!
I like the idea of a wet scrubber. Just one question: why oil? water is cheaper and easier to work with, if your worried about it freezing add some antifreeze . check for tar with a white cloth over the end of your flare pipe
Fantastic cad design. Have you seen or heard of the RU-vidr flash001usa? Or read the gasification bible. They will have lots of information if you are still working on things.
Hello, I'm Brazilian and I would like to know what the purpose of your party is, if you have already built any of them and have adapted to your vehicle
Hi, we are designing our own version of the stratified gasifier with grate shaker. Could you please suggest a model, manufacturer, type for the electric shaker motor ?
hi ... how are you??? i think That your video is very interesting. .. could you talk me about the measure in millimeters? i ll be wait your answer. .. thanks
