Can you please tell me, if I've got music for the soprano recorder but I'm using an alto recorder, what do I do? Just a matter of transposing the piece? (I think transposing is the right word?!). I've never transposed before so it might be a slow process. Ps. I haven't checked your videos so I'm not sure if you've made any that are relevant to what I've asked? I enjoyed this one! (Alto recorder books seem to be like chicken's teeth in Zuide Africa...)

Well done. I guess there is no resolution for triplet in TaKaTiNa. One can propose for triplet ( quater- eigth)= TaTe; for triplet (eight-quarter) = TeTa;

I had fun teaching myself recorder, using Sweet Pipes Recorder book....until I got to F. I must have a soprano recorder and I just noticed the book was for alto recorder. I gave up because I could not make F play (they showed ALL the holes covered. Now I am considering going back and trying again with your description. I subscribed. Thanks.

The note produced on "AAA NOT THAT" was an A up the third harmonic on D, which happens often because how unstable F# is. Instead I play 0 12356- to increase the stability.

I always loved the alto better but when I found out they switched the letters but kept the fingerings I was so mad and never bothered with it😂 of course now I realise it's because the first half of the alto is the lower half of soprano thus technically the letter is correct because it makes the same sound😅

The recorder was NOT replaced by the flute. That's like saying the harp replaced the guitar because the guitar wasn't loud enough (not true either, of course). It's not like orchestras had recorders then needed something louder and got flutes, that's NOT what happened. They existed side by side but had different roles and different social associations. The recorder was never an orchestral instrument, it was the gentleman's instrument, the flute was associated with the military and a professional's instrument (professional doesn't mean better player, it means one who makes a living at it, not a person in high social standing before the 19th century). The recorder played in many kinds of ensembles in the Renaissance, but in the Baroque period, when the flute was arguably softer than the recorder, the flute was far more likely to be used in orchestral ensembles. The recorder might have been tossed in for church music or occasional variety, but it was mostly a chamber and private instrument from the 18th century onward.

As a Hungarian this makes me cry in agony… Google has no clue what it’s talking about🤣 i already heard you say Kodály and your pronunciation was awesome, but in canse anybody else wonders how to say it, i guess this is a way to describe it: In Kodály the end ly/j (in Hungarian they sound the same, one of them is just an older one and we kept it in case of some words) sound is like when you say YEEEEET~! but only the Y part, no E or T. Ko-Daa-Y(eeet) and for the Da part you just drop your jaw low with kinda round-ish mouth, like when you are on a roller coaster and you go like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Amd put a D on the front.. DAAAAAA! And here you have it. Kodály.

So, as a teacher...I have a class of gr 4/5 students that are doing awesome on soprano. I have a few altos. If we're doing a play along, or reading soprano music, should I teach the chosen ones the fingering to make the pitch they're reading sound unison or sound harmony? I want to add some simple harmony to what we're learning for a showcase. If they use their soprano fingerings, will it sound good as harmony (especially if I write out a simpler harmony part)? Or should I have them invest in some time to learn the proper fingerings for the pitches?
