How to refill your own laser printer toner cartridges. U Refill Toner Ltd. invented the "do-it-yourself" toner refill in 1992, "melt and pour" in 1996 and added "unplug and pour" to Internet-Speak in 2002. We have never attempted to patent or otherwise restrict the use of this idea.
Ernest, we can help you with that: but you'll have to get in touch with the form here, so we can get a proper dialogue going urefilltoner.co.uk/contact_form.aspx

This worked for me. How fantastic! Imagine those OEMs trying to trick us..... Interestingly, it also fixed a non-OEM brand new cartridge that was being rejected by the printer. I did the reset with the OEM cartridge then swapped it out for the non-OEM and no problems. I'm quite chuffed by this. (and yes, I know this is a 4yr old video but if I'm watching it, so might be others).

You sir, are the hero. I respect and admire your dedication, expertise and wit! And you are completely right about these huge companies. It's obvious they give not a jot about the earth or their customers. Profit is their driving force. Them claiming to be 'green' is a charade. What they are actually doing is downright criminal. I am with you, sir. (I sub'd!)
I live in the UK and I just bought a used Brother HL 3140CW. I need to order a starter kit because I started to get tonner low warning. However the exact part in the video where we need to make a hole (I presume) is missing. Is there a way to refill it without making that hole?
Yeah sorry about the missing bit. I've reverted it to the original video, see the bit you missed here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ccS-yGhM2a8.htmlsi=YTVRR5OJjO-Tkgzd&t=419 But bear in mind, we haven't got that electric melter any more - that's why we chopped it out of the vid. You can use the low tech copper melter here to do the same thing from the starter kit here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BR3150KITB&description=Starter+kit+with+black+toner&engine=BR3150CDW&printer=HL-3140cw%2c+HL-3150cdw%2c+HL-3170cdw&id=2698&weight=145 Or by itself here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Sundries&productCode=COPPERMELTER&description=Copper+hole+melter&engine=SUNDRY&printer=Useful+bits+and+pieces+for+refilling&id=2954&weight=8 You can refill through the side but I haven't got exact guidance on that and hole you end up having to refill through is too small for our spout
I have the HL-L3220CDW and this menu doesn't"t appear. it instead gives me a blank screen. If anyone knows how to get to that menu on the 3220 let me know!
Yes, bear in mind that your L3220 isn't in the family of printers that this video addresses. We're working on the L3220 family at the moment If you go here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/toner_refill_products.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&engine=BRL3215&printer=HL-L3215cw%2c+HL-L3220cw%2c+HL-L3220cwe%2c+HL-L3240cdw You can register your email to be notified when we have a deliverable offering for it
Worked like a charm! Thank you I had to understand the "trick" to reach the menu, but afterwards it's pretty easy. I could only reset the toner once, the second time it already doesn't work, and sometimes the last printings still have good colors. Is it possible somehow to make it twice?
Yes. Use the reset wheel method as shown in the video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-25pZSi_KZak.html Using the 4 reset wheels in our kit here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230KITB&description=Black+starter+kit&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=3080&weight=130
It works at the beginning with mine, now when I changed the toner color, it's not allowing me to reset with the upper bottom. Now I have the flashing light and can't print color pages. 😢
You can always reset with the wheels as we show in the video here urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=2983&weight=65#jumpToVideo 4 reset wheels included in the black starter kit here urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230KITB&description=Black+starter+kit&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=3080&weight=130
It's hard to have certainty because Brother could change it at will for the next machine that rolls off the production line. But the reset based on wheels, as we show in the video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-25pZSi_KZak.html is working for every known customer as I write. Also, not so easy for Brother to mess with because it's the basis of how their own cartridges achieve the reset. We've put 4 reset wheels in the Black Starter Kit here urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230KITB&description=Black+starter+kit&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=3080&weight=130
Correct sequence is BACK+CANCEL then within 100ms BACK only again a second time. Testing this out, after about 100ms it doesn't work. So you can actually do it quite slowly.
Then use the reset method that uses the reset wheels as @ this time code ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-25pZSi_KZak.htmlsi=ZSHnuNw8PUsqITXN&t=260 And there are 4 reset wheels for you in our black starter kit here urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230KITB&description=Black+starter+kit&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=3080&weight=130
In your refill instructions you mention using duct tape to seal up the hole, but in the video you've got the grommets & sealant? What would you say would be the most reliable method overall? Glad I found this too, as my M479dfn is in dire need of new toner!!
We mention tape in relation to the waste hole, where there's more flat surface that can take the tape. For the refill hole, definitely go with the melt plugs and sealant as you see at this timecode ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HJvxGS7ZtBM.htmlsi=6tIxiWaGVr0oWby8&t=387
You have to make your own hole with the tool here urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=COPPERMELTER&description=Copper+hole+melter&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=2987&weight=8 And plugs are here urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=MELTPLUG1&description=Plug+for+melted+hole&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=2989&weight=2 As explained in the course of the video
Worked like a charm with the black TN-243 starter toner on a Brother 3230CDW. Some say it doesn't work with starter toners and some say it only works once. All I can say it worked once for me and I am curious if it will work in the future multiple times, depending of course how much toner is REALLY left. I am not printing much, but I will not buy a leg-and-an-arm-toner from Brother, when I had good experience with another old Brother BW (real) laser printer with off-brand toners, print quality was visually the same with a 10-20 times cheaper refill cartridge. Printer manufacturers need really to tone(r 😁) down their prizes, but as long as people don't care do be scammed this will continue. On the positive side, at the end of the day it is everybody's OWN choice to inform themselves if they are not satisfied with the current printer ink/toner price extortion situation, and to be honest that's a pretty low bar to reach. Anyways, thanks for the help, we people who don't want to take part in the scam game appreciate it a lot. 👍
Hi. Loved the video. I am intending to buy HP M255DW. Which cartridges to choose as a starter kit? I have two options an HP empty ones with chip or refillable without chip.
GREATGREAT WORK! Thank you so much!!!! I also had to push buttons a few minutes (bc. there was only "no data" displayed) - for me it was the "hitting cancel and back button at the same time, and then hit "back" another time" that did the trick! you make the world a better place!
Weigh the cartridge if you can 412g is completely empty. In that case, refilling has a reasonable chance of fixing issues. If the weight is significantly above 412g, then whatever's causing the problem isn't lack of toner: so putting more toner in is not going to help
Hello Sir. Well done for everything you do. We've used the coper technique and we're amazed. Thanks for that. We would like to know how many pages can we get out of a regular hp cartridge. We've refilled them all recently and we want to compare. Thanks very much. 😢
Just wondering how much toner do I put in? is it the whole bottle? Also will I need a new chip at 3000 pages? Many thanks just did the yellow cart all good so far! :)
If it really won't work, you have to use the wheels as shown in our other video here urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw%2c+HL-L3290cdw&id=2983&weight=65#jumpToVideo
Update for 2023: I confirmed for this exact model that the button sequence is back and cancel at the same time and then back once more. I had to reset all four cartridges. I did the reset in the menu BUT the part the video doesn't show is I had to then remove the cartridges and put them back in. And just a side note, I work for a school and was just cleaning the drum and rollers using the green slides due to some print quality issues. I've been buying genuine cartridges so this was a nice time suck to deal with during the busy grad season. Thanks to this video it wasn't too long of a delay.
What error message is that ? The reset - if it works - will only deal with a "Replace ..." message that stops you from printing. If it really won't work for "Replace ..." use the reset wheel approach as we do here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&price=13.50&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=DCP-L3510cdw%2c+DCP-L3550cdw&id=2983&weight=75#jumpToVideo
No. That's something else. For whatever reason, your machine thinks there's a cartridge missing from its slot. Can be a faulty cartridge, missing chip or faulty chip sensor on the machine
There's not kit as such. Just get the melter: then whatever toner and plugs you need from here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/toner_refill_products.aspx?manufacturer=Hewlett+Packard&engine=HPM452&printer=Color+laserJet+M452dn%2c+M452dw%2c+M452nw If you need more info, get in touch with customer services here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/contact_form.aspx
Hello! Which laser jet / ink jet printer can you recommend that is easiest to refill the ink cartridge? One that has a refillable ink cartridge available too? Thank you very much
Hello there. How many times can you refill one cartridge with one bottle of toner? Do you sell the coper melter and the lye flat plug to match please? Thank you very much and well done!
The copper melter and plugs are the last 2 items in the table here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/toner_refill_products.aspx?manufacturer=Hewlett+Packard&engine=HPM255&printer=Color+LaserJet+M255dw%2c+M255nw If you're refilling HP originals, the amount of toner you can get in at one go is restricted. You'll have to put it in over about 3 occasions Compatible cartridges are normally better for refilling. See the video here about that ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X8SWSS2Xow4.html
