Love this and glad Evergoods finally let go of their useless inner "loops" but I'd miss the water pockets. Hopefully they release a Civic 26L with better organisation 🤔
"I've cut down" *proceeds to review every single Evergoods bag* 🤣 Seriously though, your reviews are great - super clear, and with very interesting and practical observations
You could but I wouldnt due to the foam at the bottom of the front panel and the bags base. It’s far more structured and would probably be fine but I’d not risk it.
I have almost every bagfrom evergoods and the one fabric I don't have is their solution dyed black, I have the same version of the bag you do, my only black Evergoods bag and it is a different textile
I really like the 840d solution dyed material. More so than the 420d solution dyed from the CTB line. I think the 840d has a nicer hand feel and drapes really nicely.
These are the ones I bought. I traced the stock sheet on this, and then used a pair of heavy duty scissors and cut it right out. 100% worth it. amzn.to/4cqr8Ba
Very complete review. You missed the small "secret" pocket that is next to the frame sheet. Sorry to be that guy - but your thumbnail has an incorrect name, it says "Daily Max" instead of "Daily Plus". I would say a downside of Able Carry bags are that they are on the heavier side for their size/capacities.
Thanks Becky 😊. I’ve been on the hunt for one. I’ll get my hands on it one day! I know TBB sizing is a bit different from other brands. What would you compare the 19L to?
Wife and I are flying to bahamas for a week vacation with our 2 daughters. I am struggling to figure out what to use for travel carry on and personal item. Do you have a recommendation of what might work for carry on and personal item like doubling up. or going with 1 that will fit under the seat possibly. All I am bringing on the plain is ipad, change of clothes, small items like hand sanitizer, glasses, a book and heaphones. I thought a backpack and a sling bag would be ideal so I can store the backpack but I don't know. Do I go with a bigger backpack and also a smaller backpack? This is a wild ride figuring out what to even buy. Edit: Everything else will be in checked luggage so I won't have to worry about it.
Good question! Here’s my take - Since you’ve mentioned you’ve got checked bags, I’m assuming the backpack would be your carry on and if you had a sling, it would be your personal item. The CTB26 is pretty big, in a good way. I’m assuming your change of clothes won’t take up too much space in the bag leaving you plenty of room. Are you carrying other people’s change of clothes too? The ipad, book, glasses and other small things can easily be placed in specific pockets or perhaps in a sling which you then have at the ready and place the bag in the overhead bin. You should have ample space I’m a bag like the CTB26. When I travel, it’s often with the CTB26, I like to pair it with a sling that can fit just about everything I need for the flight, and also works well for my day to day vacation carry needs.
@@ECsEDC Thank you for the detailed reply. I managed to get a reply from Evergoods and just got an expedited order for a 26 that should be here before the trip. That plus two slings from amazon to try before we leave so I am going to give this a shot. I went cheap on slings from tomtoc so will see how that goes. I will only be carrying 1 change of clothes for myself and 1 for my wife but no shoes or sandles. we usually do this just in case checked bags delay or get lost somehow and we need to have a day or so of changes.
@@thereal-ghost Awesome! Also, I've heard great things about the Tomtoc products, especially for that price point. If it's comfy, I think you'll be very happy. Enjoy your trip and let me know what you think of the CTB!
Actually have the Catalyst 26, kinda correct on the water bottle pockets unless you're bringing a 32oz/48oz Nalgene, I also use for things I need immediately like an umbrella. The Catalysts are pretty underrated but nothing too special, really
I think they’re well priced, have solid material and look good! I just wish a little extra effort was applied to the bottle pockets, especially if you’ve had a bag like the Coulee where those are a highlight.
Good comparison. You are spot on with the bottle pockets on the catalyst. The catalyst could have been much better with some elastic on the water bottle pockets
This bag ticks off every single need I have for EDC with one drawback being the depth. It’s unavoidable unless we are able to bend the laws of physics. Not a dealbreaker and it is categorised as a travel bag after all.
That’s a good perspective. Lots of folks are not in favor of this bag, due to the depth but it’s called the CTB20. The PLC20 would be your every day carry backpack from EVERGOODS but this is feature rich. Dedicated laptop compartment, luggage pass through, dual quick access pockets and great organization throughout the bag. I think it’s worth the depth and weight to get all that in a 20L format.
Great review man. Really thorough. I think this helped convince me to go CTB20 over CTB26 for EDC law school carry. I just think the form factor of the 26 might prove a tad unwieldy.
If the CPL 16 had at least one water bottle pocket, it would be my ideal EDC bag. The CTB20 is just really bulky. It’s really hard trying to decide between the two. I’m a bit lost. Damnit.
@@mr_red13 Definitely the 20L. It fits more use cases more often. I’d rather carry the extra 4 liters and not need them than need more room after using up all 16 liters in the CPL16.
Yeah, I don’t understand how weight doesn’t get mentioned more often in all bag discussions. I’m considering basically only the MPL22 purely due to the weight.
There are those who just one bag travel with a 20L bag. If you can make it work for you, why not? The reason why Evergoods made the CTB20 is because they received multiple requests for a smaller CTB. There are those who like the features of the CTB but 35L and 26L is too big for them. I have the CTB26 and I can either do one bag travel or 2 bag travel with a duffel or luggage. I have hands on the CTB20 in the store in my local area and I can tell you it's the exact bag as the CTB35 and the CTB26, the only difference is the dimensions, which is quite marginal but it makes a difference in the volume capacity. Initially I wanted the CTB35 but after comparing side by side with the CTB26 I picked the latter. Side note: The Pakt 35L Travel Pack is less bulkier than the CTB35 when both are packed to the brim.
I think that if you’re a purist one bagger, EVERGOODS bags in general are too heavy for those folks. Finding a maker like ULA or similar who leverages lightweight materials and prioritizes function or features is the best route. If I was strictly one bagging I probably wouldn’t choose this either as you don’t need the luggage pass through. But, with that said, the CTB line pairs extremely well with roller luggage. Ultimately it’s always user preference and needs that dictate what bag is best for YOU.
For a bag to look that fat and be 8.5 on paper and carry those 3 things is WILLLLLLLD. I guess ill stay in the .00000000727292 % who thinks these evergoods bags are way too fat for edc.
I think it’s marketed as an EDC because of two exterior water bottle pockets, ability to store laptop, a large packing cube and Dopp kit and has a luggage pass through. It’s not a one bag travel bag, but a great bag to use as say a carry on for the plane, with a checked or carry on roller
Finally a review on the CTB20. Thank you 🙏. I had the opportunity to hands on the display unit of the CTB20 in a local shop here in Malaysia and here are my initial thoughts. Its a slightly smaller version of the CTB26, which I have in OD Green. All the quick access compartments are slightly smaller because Evergoods slimmed down the bag's height and length. The width and depth still remains more or less the same from the CTB26. It's much easier to strap up the CTB20 on my back and it's much better for EDC because EDC bags usually are between the 18L - to 22L range. I may buy a CTB20 for myself if Evergoods can release in other colours in October. My travel setup is CTB26 for personal items (packable daypack inside the laptop compartment) and Bellroy Venture Duffel 40L for clothes and souvenirs. The cool thing is that I can one bag travel with either the CTB26 or the Venture Duffel.
Great review! Does the CTB35 fit underneath the airline seat? I have the CTB26 and it fits on most airlines that I’ve been on (international and domestic). Also, it’d be cool if you did a review on the EG sling that you packed.
When I’ve flown with the CTB35, I put it up top and use a sling (1.5 bag travel) for in flight needs. That gives me ample leg room which is definitely preferred. My CTB26 fit under the seat on every flight I’ve taken it on and based on that, I think the CTB35 is hit or miss. Depends on how full you packed it, which airline and which size plane you’re on. Stay tuned! I’ve got a bunch of sling reviews coming soon!
Thanks for the detailed review. I've just got the BE Citadeal r3 and I am annoyed by the overall stiffness of the bag as well as the fact that the lower part of the backpanel oddly stabs into my lower back. I wonder if this bag does a better job at that as the backpanel seems more flexible, but is it quite small and the shoulder straps are very close to each other? Should I be concerned about these aspects? (I am similarly built as you)
Hey thanks for the comment! I can understand what you mean by the Citadel being stiff, and I don’t disagree but I did not experience the stabbing discomfort you’ve mentioned. This bag really is very comfortable for me. The Citadel is at least a longer in length so that likely contributes to the digging in the lower back. Additionally, the Citadel has a space of 2.75” at the top of the straps where the Daily Plus has a gap of 2.5” - just measured for you. I didn’t notice any rubbing on my neck. Not sure if you’ve ever used the GWA Citadel (funny coincidence) but that bags straps were way too narrow and rubbed my neck wrong, so I get that concern.
No external water bottle pocket option also seems like a con (for many people). Especially after you pointed out how that internal carry pocket competes with internal storage space.
Yup! No doubt, but I know the concern is sometimes lack of a bottle pocket at all. But for those that want or need that pocket to be external likely wouldnt be looking at this bag. Definitely a trade off for a sleeker silhouette.
This is a great bag and I enjoyed your review. In my brief use of the bag, I found that the lower stretch pocket in the front quick access area is very large - it extends quite far to the other side of the bag and also to the bottom. So if you put something small in there, it will end up at the bottom / other end of the bag. Also, if you put a larger item in this area (not in one of the sub-pockets) it can tend to hamper your access to whatever you clip to the key leash. When you combine this with the generally oval shape of the bag, you can lose smaller items "round the other side" within this compartment. By comparison the same area on the CPL24 is better: this is because it's a flatter design, so it's easier to see the full compartment, and the smaller pockets are stitched a little further from the end of the pocket. I think AC could easily tweak the pockets to make them a bit smaller so that items don't get lost "round the corner" of the curvature of the bag. They could just stitch them a little higher up.
Thanks for sharing! Also, the CPL24 has the key leash in the top quick access pocket if I recall making for less things in the way inside that front pocket. But you’re definitely correct, you do tend to fight with items in that front stretch pocket.
Great review! I like your channel and the way you review bags with your own spin on things! Would you be making a top 5 list or something similar? Like what's your favourite bags in comparison, would be interesting to see how this bag compared against the max or even a CTB26!
Great idea! That’s also a tough question considering there are so many categories and sizes that give bags different purposes. If you’re saying just for EDC/work and are all ~15-25 liters that might be a good idea for video 😃.
These are commonly called ‘Heroclips’. Recently Gear Aid purchased the Heroclip brand and the newer ones are no longer branded as such, but will instead say the new ‘Gear Aid’. This one is the medium size and works great for bags and slings alike, though some folks might prefer the small version for a bag of this size.
i have this pack and for EDC is great , two things one arm slinging the fabric is so slippery along with the short length it flips off my shoulder all the time. the straps are to short. I really wish they where longer.
The 210d used in the bag certainly is more slick that 500d but I find it nice and easy to take on and off. A sternum strap helps me keep it secure when on body, though I’m rarely using only one shoulder.
Yo, that stretchy material in the second compartment is kinda sus. What happens when it wears out? How are you supposed to fix that? The rest of the bag is made of tough materials, so why did they use that flimsy stuff there?
That's a good call out. I always worry about the longevitiy of stretch materials such as elastic in water bottle pockets or in this case the interior mesh pocket. From my day-to-day, I rearely put larger things in there - mostly just small pouches or snacks. The extreme example of fitting a CAP2 is simple to demonstrate it's capabilities and doing that on a regular basis is a sure way to shorten it's 'stretch lifespan'. But regarding your commend on flimsy materials, i'd actually disagree. GR is not known for using 'flimsy' materials and if anything it's the opposite. I suspect they did RnD and testing and vetted this material before placing in their product. Ultimately time will tell, so we'll see!
@@ECsEDC also noticed how the laptop compartment is located, it's off centered, with all the stitches, it looks like it's unrefined like Frankenstein bag and unrefined and as well as the stitches seemed poorly connected. I will skip this version and wait for the next.
