I'll see YOU on the trail!!! Hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, camping, bushcraft, overlanding and off-roading, and other back country adventures around the beautiful Virginia mountains and beyond. Thanks for watching and please SUBSCRIBE!
Thanks so much for checking it out. This area is one of my favorites in Virginia. I don’t upload as frequently as I used to but I’m still around. Thanks for supporting my channel.
Thanks so much for checking it out. It is awesome up there, one of my favorite areas. I've been up to the tower numerous times and often thought it would be a neat place to camp. There is evidence of some campfires there. Something new that I didn't remember seeing in the past were the half dozen surveillance cameras installed around the area. That makes me less likely to want to camp there. I guess as long as didn't mess around with the old tower or the other commercial towers up there one would probably be fine.
Thanks for checking it out. Yes the AT parallels the road almost its entire length. Near the actual Bailey Gap, the AT heads down the mountain towards Cherokee Flats. The road is a fun drive, nothing too crazy but it will bounce you around quite a bit haha. I was alone so I chose to bypass the deeper mud pits.
Hi do you have any advice on how to get to the spot with the arch? I’ve found the two giant pits one with the trash pile and the other with one big tunnel at the end and
awesome trip, little bit of everything with the creeks and views and forest road... thanks for cleaning up some and i like the chainsaw/ thanks for taking us along, good to see you
Thanks so much for watching, my friend! Yes I love it when even a short overnight trip has a little bit of a lot of good stuff. It was a fun trip. Yeah the trash was super irritating. I don't understand why some people leave their trash. That little DeWalt chainsaw has really come in handy and I've enjoyed having it. I use it a lot! Its not the best saw out there, but I already owned a lot of batteries so it was a no brainer.
We rode the entire (7 miles) Morotoc trail from the Campground to Cypress Point (and back, 14 miles total). The highlight of our ride was a very large black bear in the middle of the trail. As we approached, very slowly and from a substantial distance, it sauntered back into the brush. As noted, there is almost no grade, but the grass makes travel sluggish, and it is also very bumpy. Unless you are experienced and in great shape, a pedal assisted e-bike should be considered. A downside was that neither the water spigot nor the water fountains at Cypress Point were working, and it appeared they had not operated in a long time. This was problematic when coming from the campground, as we only had one water bottle each with us. Otherwise just a beautiful ride!
I watched every moment and hungered for more! Back in our younger days, better half and I would often head west to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Make a loop going either north or south from our arrival point, before turning east, again, to go back home. Especially fond memories of cooking breakfast, on the side of a mountain, when my parents joined us with their camper. Thank you so much for your video. And for bringing back memories of days long past. It's good to know that some good things in this world haven't changed. The views of vistas and falls is undeniable proof! Looking forward to see more, when you're willing to share. God Bless. Godspeed on your journeys away from the beaten paths.
Thank you so much for watching and for all your support of my channel over the years. Means a lot! Always appreciate your thoughtful comments. Glad the video helped bring back of few memories of your earlier trips. As you noted, some things simply stay the same. The exact location or people involved may vary, but the overall concept remains unchanged. Hopefully it will always stay like that well into future generations.
Beautiful area... Love Virginia but mostly went for bass fishing in the spring.. Never did much camping there. Nice to see those types of areas are available . Trash at sites drives me nuts.. Saw a sign on here eariler I liked... "If it didn't grow here.. It doesn't go here" lol
Thanks so much for checking it out, my friend. Yes we are loaded with so many awesome places for both camping and fishing, or about any kind of outdoor adventures you can think of. You're always welcome to come down for another visit. Yes the trash left behind is really irritating. Some people are so disrespectful. That sign you saw is perfect though. We need more of those around.
Hey, great to see a video from you! 😃 You're so right: if we can pack it in, we can pack it out. There's no excuse for littering. Your food looked amazing! Looks like a great trip! The tunnel footage was cool. Nice video! Keep them coming! 😃💚👊
Thanks so much for checking it out and for your comments. Yes those who leave behind trash are so irritating. Its really not that hard but some people just don't care. It was a great trip, can't wait to get back out.
So great to see your post, always enjoyed, the spot is beautiful for camp site, nice cook out and great trail 🚶 hike. Take care and thanks for sharing your trip.
I'm glad you took a chainsaw, just in case there was a downed tree on your path. The goulash looks delicious. Why do you add a bay leaf? The forest is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature.
Thanks so much, my friend! Yes I learned years ago the value of carrying a saw. I've had to clear a downed tree before and it just makes life easier gathering firewood. I'm too old to be hand sawing everything haha! The goulash did turn out pretty great. As for the bay leaf, some recipes call for it and some don't. The great thing about goulash is that you can just about use anything you want and there really is no right or wrong way to make it. It was a great time in the woods thanks again for checking it out!
Thanks so much, my friend! I can never get tired of any hike in the Mount Pleasant area. The Hotel loop is a good route. Have you ever been to the plane crash site? I finally figured out where it is but have yet to go check it out.
❤ Awesome video, lovely, stunning terrain you covered. But then I love the mountains of Virginia. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. I always enjoy your relaxed pace. And yes, we watched to the end.
Great to see a post from you! If I were there, I'd be at the river with my fly rod!! When I camped a lot, I packed a rake head that I could attach to a tent pole to rake the site before I left. I understand being 'over with YT'! I've culled my YT channel subs to about 10 channels, yours being one I retained.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting, and thanks for your support of my channel. Really means a lot! Yes that river is supposed stocked and a great place to fish. Some of the trash I talked about cleaning up was some broken fishing equipment that some losers decided to leave there instead of disposing of properly. I still enjoy RU-vid from time to time but definitely don't have the same enthusiasm I once did. I've been posting more sporadically and just enjoying my adventures more and worrying less about filming stuff.
Thanks for checking it out, my friend! Yeah me too and I always go up the "normal" way up Wiggins Springs but this time I went up the back way haha. The road around from Salt Log to Hog Camp was not that bad, just a few bumpy spots. It had a couple of nice camping sites but other wise uneventful. Salt Log Gap is a long way from everything no matter which way you go. After doing the short AT hike I drove down the west side but turned off on another FS road that basically wound its way around the boundary of the Mount Pleasant area and I came out on Hwy 60 at the AT access there. I'm sure you know the spot. Man that FS road was a long drive and very rough, I dont recommend it unless you just want to say you did it. Nothing particularly interesting to see along that route although I did see some "trails" that looked like they connect with the AT.
@@KrizAkoni yeah it was. I had been to it before and so I knew it was a good site and had the waterfall, but this was my first time camping there. There are actually a number of fantastic sites along that road but only this one has a waterfall right next to it.
Great video! Good seeing you post one...funny thing is I have taken a long pause on RU-vid myself, and I too just today, posted a video of only a few I have posted in the past couple of years. We went to Yorktown for a day this past Saturday and I posted a video of the old sailing ship at dock there. Beautiful country there around Buena Vista, as usual you show some beautiful scenery. I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing and take care!
Thanks so much for watching, my friend! I'll be sure to check out your video as well. Yes I'm still here but I don't upload frequently anymore. It just got to where it was not fun and I preferred to focus on enjoying my trips and adventures and get back to taking more photos rather than video, and not have to think everything out. That said I had a blast on this trip and enjoyed putting the video together too. Just never know when I'll pop up haha!
This is one of my favorite caves. The "small man's shortcut" is my favorite squeeze to go through and I believe there's still alot of undiscovered areas here. Awesome video!
It's a good hike up to sand cave. Went there first at around 12, then went back again at 25. Beautiful area, and an amazing sight when you finally set eyes on the cave. Hope to get back there one more time.
Yes! There was some confusion about the trail on our first visit, the instructions we had did not add up. On later visits we located the designated path and used it.
Nice video man, I've talked with a friend the Prospecting Geologist Matt Hospodar about The Meadows Footsteps Of The Past in Aug. 83' where William Simpson Jr. found that dinosaur footprint fossil in the shale rock cool stuff.
Its a completely different world underground and so much to explore and so few people venture into that realm. Thanks so much for checking it out, my friend!
