What is up RU-vidrs! I'm Jerry the Mining Monkey! I'm a coin and nuggetshooter. I have been Metal detecting for over 20 years and quite simply it's probably one of my favorite hobbies to date next to golfing. I have been a Whites Exclusive users ( too bad their out of business now) for over 19 years with just recently within the last 2 years trying out different brands. Each Maker has their strengths and weaknesses but I have found that it all depends on your environment and preferences these 2 factors will dictates "your" success. The name Jerry the Mining Monkey came when someone told me that metal detecting was so easy a monkey can do it. In 2017 I lost my hearing in my ear from menieres disease and on Jan 12,2024 I had cochlear implant procedure to gain my hearing back.
Turn down your threshold volume so you can barely hear it...youll still hear targets. Wow, you guys are in a trashy area! Id move on to an area with less bullets or try drywashing there.
Yeah ,most areas that are claimed up are trashy unless you go into the heavily wooded areas where only Sasquatch is. Oh well, c'est la vie as the saying goes.one thing is for sure, you have to dig up the trash before you find the nugs. Thanks for the comment!
I don't think people catch why my threshold is higher than normal, I'm deaf in one ear and the faint hum of a threshold I will never hear, especially in windy desert environments and forget about headphones.theres mountain lions around here and last thing I need is for a ml to pounce on me.at least I have my dagger to shank the cat
I'm sorry, but you couldn't pay me to used that detector, I think you should probably find out how to tune that beast in, because it's very very unstable
@@Gold-d9x unfortunately you do need that threshold buzz, the faintest change or variance in that threshold indicates a target. If you get rid of the threshold sound and just leave to the zip zip sound you will pass up targets guaranteed.
I just got the Legend hoping to also find nuggets with it. I noticed you were not able to find gold on this trip. heard of Has anybody heard of people finding small gold with the Legend? I find small tiny pieces of bird shot with it. I figured if I can find that I can find small nuggets. Am I wrong?
@@coryamoroso8864 you are absolutely correct, the legend is quite capable of finding small gold. If you are finding birdshot you will find the small nugs, I've also found small wire smaller than birdshot ,which is a good indicator for finding wire gold as well.
Hello, thanks for reaching out. So here's the latest, my cochlear surgery was Jan 12,2024 .one month later Feb 8, 2024 I got my first mapping ,it wasn't what I expected but knew it could have instantly worked or had a long road ahead of me. 4 mappings later, my hearing has improved alot,BUT I still have a ways to go ,it can take months or years before I can recover my hearing completely from what my audiologist has seen. I am happy to report that localizing sounds and little sound nuances are clearer than when I first got it turned on. My headaches have lessened which is interesting. My hearing has been gone for almost 8 years now,so my brain has to relearn how to hear again but with electronic technology. It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint as I've been told ,things can only get better as they have been. I stream audio to my CI everyday ,it's definitely a challenge but a fun one at that. I was told that I couldn't video my sessions anymore at the hospital which I was very upset but oh well moving on. Thanks again for asking.hopefully I'll do another video soon and talk about it. Oh and the tinnitus is actually gone!! But only when my CI is on,but that's to be expected because my brain has to fill in the void of dead silence with the ringing. But when I have it on tinnitus is gone ,that's a huge bonus!
@@miningmonkey760 Also, lost hearing in one ear from Meniere's attack (2020). Am contemplating CI. please keep posting of your progress it helps us all. Great to hear about tinnitus relief from CI.
I don't have the program ask for that driver step, and when I try to update Legend V1.15, the program stays running at the "trying to connect" step I have tried reinstalling the updater and uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the drivers but nothing helps. I have WIN10
It shouldnt be that difficult and if it is, it could be your firewall or antivirus program in Windows or it needs to get sent to the nokta service center in the USA,if your from US. www.noktadetectors.com/usa-technical-service-form/ I believe I already responded
Nokta Legend refuses to update V.1.15. the update program goes as far as trying to connect, and the program stays there looking for a connection, and does not move forward. Should the installer ask to download the drivers? The program doesn't ask me at any point. I've tried installing the drivers from the download file separately, but it doesn't help. I have Windows 10
So for starters what is your current version? To identify what version you have,the detector needs to be off, then turn it on and look at top right of LCD screen and you'll see the version. We are seeing machines that are at 1.05 and 1.06 that the new updates don't work and stays stuck just as you are describing. I helped out a RU-vid member get his resolved but we had to get nokta support involved , he had to ship the unit to the authorized repair center in the US and they replaced the board for him and shipped it back with the latest version,you more than likely are at that point. I would reach out to nokta support and use that channel to get your machine fixed. @@ihis81 with the latest update tool from nokta ,it's a pretty straightforward update. If I was in your shoes, I would do the following: 1) go to control panel in windows. 2) go to programs and features. 3) uninstall a program 4) remove all traces of nokta makro app in using any drivers from previous. 4)once removed,reboot PC. 5) go to windows firewall or Windows defender and turn off. 6) disable all and any antivirus program. 7) download the latest from nokta makro site 8) right click and extract the folder and run the update tool and follow the prompts from there. You shouldn't have any issues following these steps,if you do there's probably an issue elsewhere. Check the end of the cable you are connecting to the detector and make sure the pins aren't bent. Let me know what happens
Btw...Should the update program install that app on the computer? when I extract the files and run that program, it opens that program, but that program is not installed on the computer, the file just opens the program. When I close the update program, it is no longer installed on the computer. I always have to open that program from the extracted files. At least I can't find that application when I look for installed programs in Windows. A really strange program because it doesn't make a shortcut on the desktop
why it say while not conected my detector on pc and i click drivers i have a promp and than close screen and says after the driver software installed disconect and reconnect the usb cable hel pleas why it tel me that
sorry.but translate this in netherlands what i say my friend. als ik de metaaldetector niet heb aangesloten ik heb hem ook nog niet en moet het progamma nog downloaden maar als ik door het menu gaat waar je die update moet doen krijg ik te zien hoe je het moet uitvoeren dan staat er instal drivers waneer ik daar op klik zonder de legend gekoppeld word ik verwijst naar after the driver software is installed disconected and reconect the usb cable is dit normaal dat die je naar dit verwijst en de drivers nog niet instaleer maar dat als je pas echt de detector aangesloten heb en je klikt op install driver dat die dan wel de drivers instaleerd met anderen worden of die dit niet zal doen zonder detector

Jerry, you were so real on your activation day. I’m bilateral so I have been through it twice. Every day, just like you said, it will get better. Your TV box for your TV will become your best friend, makes Tv viewing so much more enjoyable. Noisy restaurants and crowded situations will get better in time, not right away. Be sure to play with all the functions on the Cochlear Application, after 5 years, echoing in rooms with no carpets is still my biggest challenge, but changing the app settings help. Keep us posted on your journey, and be patient, your going to love it 👍
@@miningmonkey760 doctors are telling me I had something called labyrinthitis. My ear just turned off in one second and a loud airhorn came in on volume 10. I didn’t start feeling dizzy for 12 days later. I have been dizzy for over four months and had to go to physical therapy to learn how to balance and walk again. I was in bed for the first three weeks and then I needed to hold on the walls just to walk around my own house. It’s a lot better today as I can drive and look around, but it still doesn’t feel normal. but it is way better than it was. Voice to text so excuse any errors. I’m having a performed at the Mayo and the surgeon has done a bunch of them so I trust them to know what to do. So sorry you had to go through this. Mine has been brutal as heck. I never even get sick so this is bizarre.

I have it since I wanted to test 2.77 against the currently installed 2.78. But for some reason I was never able to establish a connection to the detector. So I could not install it.
Great to see you out detecting again Jerry. How are you feeling? I’m still swingin’ my Legend and my Nox 600. I usually switch between the both of them when I’m hunting in the beach water, but I usually use the Legend in the parks and schools with the 6” coil. I’m thinking on getting the LG 24 coil and some submersible headphones for my Legend. I’ve got the Thresher submersibles for my Nox 600 that work really well, so I’ll be getting the Thresher headphones for the Legend as well. Been finding some good stuff in the water lately, though. Luis, what's up dude. Glad to hear your still around too. Yeah been doing better,I've slowed down quite a bit since I haven't been out much. honestly, info so bummed out about illness that I didn't feel like detecting anymore. My wife encouraged Me to keep going and not sell my heart. So my love for the hobby has been rekindled so to speak by her and also watching videos from other people. I can't believe how big the hobby has gotten since I've been away. As for coils, I want the lg24 as well,it's a great coil. The accupoint and the m6 pinpointer are my next toys to get. I'm glad to hear all is well my friend. I'll probably do a vid about "have you ever thought about giving up the hobby? Why and why not? Anyways, c ya around and keep swinging!
ya love that detector i have one the older one with upper metal shaft does not make it very heavy compared to garett at pro with 13 inch coil thats a heavy one just waiting on spring here in midwest usa live in house built in 1890 still finding targets in yard the soldier that fought in civil war built this house was given the proprety from fed govt was a farm house at one time lots of history
William, yes love this detector. I was exclus using whites detectors for over 15 years before they went belly up and I'm sure glad I got this machine.its light,it's very responsive and has some nice advanced features that give more expensive machines a run for their money. I would love to hunt a civil area, that's a bucket lister for me for sure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I went to take my kids to a small hike w their friends and had some time to burn ,wish I had more time and wasn't so cold and rainy that day. Also wish I put my knee pads on, I did bring them but was too stubborn to go get em🤦
He doesn't know how to use it properly yet apparently, because I have the same detector and no lol. Not being rude by any means but looks like he hasnt been detecting long to begin with. he sure hits on a target a million times b4 hitting pinpoint over and over like just dig it man lol

Ha mais de 23 anos que conheço e ja comprei e usei o goldmaster V/SAT,, desde aquele tempo ja era a melhor maquina vlf, alta frequencia, baixo consumo de pilhas, e um detector que nao da defeito nunca, excelente. E agora a serie goldmaster vem com excelente balanço de solo XGB ficou ainda melhor.
Hi Jerry I have a question, I am in the Market of buying a gold detector and is having a hard time deciding either to buy a legend or a Garrett goldmaster 24k both for the purpose of getting gold for my budget. I wanted to ask since you own both machines, which one is better at depth and discriminating hotrocks when you make a head to head comparison using the small 6 inch concentric coils? And if you were in my shoes which one would you buy and why? Thanks.
Wow great question John, The build and quality of the 24K is Superior than the legend, the coil has also been revamped since the design moved to garrets dev team,it is much better than its previous coil build. I will be honest in this answer because I love both machines, depth are pretty equal with both machines,hot rocks however can be tricky to filter out but the legend does a great job at discriminating hot rocks over the Garrett 24k but not by much.they almost are equal. Personally I love build quality and the 24K wins hands down over the build quality. this is not to say the legend is a toy, far from it it's also a beast but handling a 24K is hands down a better built machine. The legend is much lighter than the 24K making hunting all day a breeze. Not to mention the Bluetooth wireless headphones and it's full waterproof to a nice depth, the 24K is just rain proof, you will not be disappointed with the legend. Worthy of note is the 24K has had the distinction of being the only White's model that Garrett decided was worth continuing to produce whichakes you wonder why? If your on a budget get the legend,in time get the 24K as your back and you'll quickly realize which is the best of the 2 once you experience them both. Hope that helps
Thanks for your help, I decided to buy the 24k, the water proof is not so important for me but what got me interested was a the XGB, GROUND BALANCE LOCK, GROUND GRAB, MINERAL ID, SAT. I have noticed that it has functions which other detectors don't have so i decided on it. Thanks again, hope you make more videos of the 24k would love to see you use it, not much videos out there!. :)

I could follow this and it was working for me until the bit where the legend is meant to say UP on the screen… nothing happens, no long matter how long I hold it down. My screen just stays dead. Any ideas? Am I meant to switch on the legend at some point?
Lucy sorry about the delay been on medical leave, when your USB cable is plugged into the legend port pressing the and holding the up button is all that is needed, the machine "MUST" be off before pressing Up which my the means Update,that should automatically trigger the power to come one and update it but you have to follow the other procedures as well to complete it
Windows 11 not recognizing the USB plug on my cable to the charge/update port... tried on 2 separate computers - hence not able to install the UART bridge to update to 1.11. Does anyone have a workaround ? Thanks !!
I am successful all the way up to when the detector says "UP" (@5:54) then when I click the arrow on the tool it just sits on the screen you did not see where is says attempting to communicate while the circle goes around and around
I have attempted this guide and every other guide out there under the sun (figuratively) I did infer while two days of trouble shooting that many people had big problems going from earlier version to newest version the most had issues with v1.05 ,,, this is same problem im having I currently have a legend with v1.05 and no matter what I do the tool will not communicate with the legend and I know my PC/usb is connecting because it indicates the connection with a slight power bleep/flash. After two days straight of around the clock attempts I am about ready to toss in the towel ...but thanks anyway for you guide!
@@miningmonkey760 no sir I believe this might be the solution for me and at the time I last checked Nokta's site didn't offer this option..Yeahp, If I could roll back to those earlier updates or get Nokta to send me the updates parsed it be very helpful but Nokta blew me off as "my problem not theirs" ... I kinda find it suspect that the updates aren't parsed honestly but then again how many out there still have such an early version on their machines.. basically I still have a obsoleted beta version of widely sold test unit. At least now I know the risk of buying new models of anything... next time I'll wait until all the kinks get worked out. I know it's my fault, I shouldn't have procrastinated but I also never suspected the updates would be rolled up and not parsed. Software seems to be almost everything in these new detectors

24K and gold big are wonderful machines. The goldbug with it's 71KHz frequency will get you the tiny little flakes and monsters, the 24K will also get you small flakes and pickers, it's also dependent on the soil matrix, I had both machines at one time and I preferred the 24K because of its ruggedness,now that Garrett took that line ,it revamped the coil because the whites coil had issues. But not anymore,what's worthy of note is the 24K whites metal detector was the only model Garrett continued. Why? Because it's a great machine!

@miningmonkey760 most of the time she doesn't. She isn't consistent. I'm sure the owner brothers have noticed. Knock-ta started as a slur from competition saying they were just a Knock Off. I'm not sure how much Turkish you know but having lived there, I can tell you it's NO-k-ta.

Excellent Question, Settings I had was GoldField Mode,Multi Frequency to minimize hot rocks and I was going back and forth with the sensitivity between 25-30. When the ground gets too hot, always ground balance it till it smoothes out. I would definitely use headphones to really hear any small gold targets that I probably may have missed, the volume was maxed out to 6 and it was hard to hear the threshold sometimes because of the wind. It doesn't help that I can't hear out if my right ear. If you have snakeboots wear em and use headphones much better. Let me know how you brother in Arizona! Love to hear about it.
