We were originally meant to have been flying to Los Angeles to start the US leg of our adventure on the 17th January but we had our flights cancelled and rebooked over the phone by the airline for the 24th January. Or so we thought....48hrs before we were due to fly and having booked our PCR tests, we looked at the tickets online and realised that the airline had rebooked not for the 24th January but the 24th February. Was this a sign? Was it the universe telling us to stay put for another month whilst the Omicron peak settles in the USA? We had decisions to make rather quickly.
We couldn't stay in our rental in La Ecovilla because other guests were due to arrive. We put a message out to the whole community to see whether there was anywhere we could stay but no joy. So we decided to have an off grid adventure in a neighbouring eco village and permaculture farm Finca Vida Verde fincavidaverde.com part of the Tacotal collective. Just as we'd negotiated our stay at Tacotal a call came in from some friends of ours at La Ecovilla to say guests of theirs had cancelled their stay because of Covid and we were welcome to stay in their guest house. Commonly know here as a Casita. On top of that Marcelo, (the founder of La Ecovilla www.laecovilla...) and the main man in this weeks video asked me to make a film about the school here Casa Sula casasula.com This also meant the kids could go to Sula for the week which is great. It's exciting for me because the alternative education system here is an enormous part of the story here at La Ecovilla and one I haven't been able to tell before.
So after a lovely weekend up at the Tacotal Collective we now find ourselves back at La Ecovilla which makes working and communicating significantly more easy and also avoids a 40 minute walk every morning to drop the kids off at the school bus. We're chuffed that we managed to experience a more rugged style of eco living here in Costa Rica (if only for the weekend) but truth be told I think we'd have struggled for an entire week up there.
So everything has worked out rather well. We have rebooked our flights to Los Angeles for Tuesday 1st February and we have another full on week of filming here in La Ecovilla. We're happy; the kids are happy. We continue to feel a great sense of purpose and we crack on.
Finally this weeks video...the main focus is a tour of La Ecovilla with Marcelo. It's pretty raw and should give you a real sense of the community, and infrastructure at this incredible eco village.
