The Seasoned Bikepacker has evolved into The Endurance Studio! I’m an avid endurance cyclist and runner and I’m on a journey to learn everything I can about how people can push beyond their limits. This channel explores all aspects of ultra bikepacking, running and general endurance.
Great Vídeo!! Guys, I'm trying to find the option for my bike. Aahnn does tile sticker work with all Apple network? Or does it only work with apple phone that have some Tile Sticker app installed?
Very interessting podcast and thoughts. The reason people choose electronic for ultra(races!) is that it usually works flawless and doesnt fatigue your hands than mechanical shifting. The shimano battery (i ride di2 myself, so not a hater) has a hige downside because of the battery that is conceiled in the frame. You cant charge ir so easily than swapping a sram spare battery. The other downside wirh shimano is the cables which actually introduce more components that can fail. Looking at the thin cable that feeds my derailliour makes me anxious. Even on bikepacking trips the shimano battery is a downside. You need your bike next to a power socket or leave a powerbank to charge. Imagine checking in to a hotel. They will not letnyou take your bike to your room. They will usually have a rolm to store your bike which might have power socket or not. With sram you just take your battery out and carry it to your room. Why are there almost no shimano electronic groups at unbound? Probably because sram completely has overtaken shimano with their development of wireless, gear capacity and compatibility. Currently still on shimano di2 but most likely my next groupset will be from sram. If i would go around the world on my bike, i would ride mechanical on an aluminum or even better steel bike, with a mid range shimano group set where i know i can get spare parts almost everywhere in the world. For everything else i believe electronic shifting is fine. Just my thoughts on the topic ✌🏻😊
I also use a simple padlock alarm, if cut or moved the siren is instantly loud. When not activated it’s a simple padlock hung on the frame. It’s cheap, quick and easy to carry. It can attach a bag handle to the frame too. It’s good for letting me know a theft attempt has begun. My bike has a wheel lock too, so it can’t be easily ridden away. The key lives in it so I can’t lose it. The locking mechanism can be removed with tools but that’s where the padlock alarm comes into play. That said nothing is 100%, so I ask nicely and take my bike into stores.
I ride in T-Shirts and hoodies with shorts over my lycra bibs, brakes on my fixed gear, disc brakes on my aluminium road bike and I prefer driving manual transmission over DSG/Auto. It's good to try new things, even if it's just to figure out that you don't like the change, but each to their own really! Just rock whatever works for you mate!
You have to be insane to run, electronic, shifting, and ultra races, especially if you’re towards the front of the race because you do not have the time for recharge. Good work again bud!
This video misses one of the biggest flaws with stalker mode, presumption that everyone is only using apple products. This was a whole conversation had when airtags came out and women in tech pointed out the obvious issues in airtags, leading to stalker modes inclusion, and apple washing it hands of the issue after they released stalker mode. Iphones are comparatively rare to android devices, and tend to be skewed towards the kind of people with the disposable income to not need to steal bikes to make ends meet. The end result is airtags are usually very effective tracking devices. As for search warrants, a tracking device placed on the object consistently being in the home is in fact, pretty good probable cause, though the more likely scenario is actually getting it back from a pawn shop who then reports the stolen goods to the police.
Wether it's a stalking incident or a theft, the police need to be involved anyway. Apple would know what apple id disabled the tag. If apple coordinated with law enforcement, the tag owner could report the theft and with a warrant, the police could be given tracking info on both the tag and the apple device that disabled it. Sounds like this could be an easy fix, but unfortunately it would likely involve government, so, that's where the issue lies. It seems like any good law enforcement agency would welcome this tool. The warrant is the sticking point.
I used to read Jeff's blog back in the day, and I got passed by him riding his singlespeed around Durango occasionally. Never met him though, he was always going too fast.
Lets talk about the real world. Your property gets stolen, you know where it's at. A. Ask the police to tell the thief who you are. or B. Handle your business stay anonymous and get on with your day.
Awesome, I totally enjoyed the energy and free form style in this episode and some of the wild tangents... It took me till 50"s to kind of figure out "life". Should have done shrooms in my 20's or 30's . Gotta say though, some of the best concerts I've seen lately may or may not have been aided by the magic 🍄🤙🤘... Baby food, I'll remember that one! The Rover works great as my road bike too w/ carbon wheels and 30mm tubeless tires.
Just go get your property, if they call the police... so be it. I guess if you're in gun-happy places like the US that could be more dangerous; thieves are likely to give your stuff back and hope you leave it at that.
I have a grizl 6 bought 2by converted to single. I have put a lot of miles on mine I’m guessing more than most folks. The bike is about 9 months I am on my third bb and headset bearings are pretty bad. I race it and train with it I find it to be reliable as far as the frame goes and I think you can’t go wrong if you pick change to the correct gearing for your area. I really wanted to dislike the bike but it’s a beast of a bike and if you are willing to work on can really reward you. I go through parts becuase of the mileage I’m doing it is what it is.
I totally agree with you. The frame is solid but the components were dissatisfactory for me and it sounds like a bit for you. If someone is handy replacing thing themselves, it's not a bad budget priced carbon option.
What happens if you remove the speakers on the tags and then put more than one air tag on the bike so the thief eventually finds one (after his phone alerts him) and destroys it. I guess eventually he'd get alerted again, but by that time, haven't you already found the location?
You can sacrifice one of the AirPod case and install it at the bike …. It will be a bit costly but wont give any warning as the AirTag to people around it and it do the same process as air tag
Disabled speaker and the airtag somewhere where you need special tools to access. Like inside the frame. If you do your own maintance, you got the tools.
Hi Dillan, first time on your channel, have you made video for androids? iOS is accountable for around 30 percent of the mobile OS market. Eventually, there are around 1.36 billion iPhone users in the world, which is around 2 billion less than Android users!
Hey John. Thanks for watching and commenting. I just really make videos on what I know and i've been in the apple ecosystem for a long time now so nothing on the Android side of things.
The speaker in the air tag CAN be removed and it isn’t hard to do it. I know it is not the complete solution but it gives you more time for recovery of your stolen item. The thief can get notifications when they have an air tag near to him on his phone BUT, (as surprising as it might be nowadays) 1- many people don’t know about air tags 2- don’t suspect they have one on the stolen bike 3- the thief doesn’t have the time to check for air tags while he’s stealing your bike or his phone for notifications. I think that the sound of the air tag would be the main concern and if you can eliminate that, it’ll be really helpful.
Trans people can be whatever they want but not with people they aren't and then force their values on them or force them to accept that they are what they're not just to have something they don't have in the first place...
Congrats and thx for sharing the experience! While tracking the race live, I was getting motivated to try it someday, especially seeing a couple septuagenarians finish...now I have a much better idea of what to expect. 😳 Enjoy sustaining your 50k activity level!
