I think the other comic episode of Angel (with underlying serious themes, of course) that holds up really well is Spin the Bottle. But then, I’m partial to bottle episodes (no pun intended!) and magic alteration stories, like Tabula Rasa on Buffy. But yeah, this is easily one of the most memorable and creative, and of course hilarious episodes in the whole Buffyverse. And I’ll admit that my favorite line is “I’m gonna tear you a new puppet-hole, bitch!” 😁
Was such a heartbreaking episode 😢😢😢😢 what Anya does was so perfect she acts like everyone does when they liose someone. I was like her when my mom passed away I just didn't know how to be
This episode got me so bad. It was so unexpected and real. My mother walked in to my grandmother's house (my mother's mother) and found her lifeless in the entry hall... when I watched this episode, I could feel that horror and sorrow. More than any monster, this episode shows the dread we all have, if we are to walk in and find our loved one has passed...
I remember going back to this episode on days when I felt like I needed a good cry, it's such a in-depth look at sudden grief. I thought a lot about this episode when my own mother passed away, I could see the characters' actions in those of my family members.
Yes, this episode is one of the first things I thought about when my mother died a few years ago, shortly before the pandemic. I’m not young (I was nearly 60 at the time), and it was at the end of a long, lingering deterioration from Alzheimer’s, but it still felt so relevant. I wasn’t able to go to her funeral, which was too far away, but my two daughters went, and my sister asked if I wanted to prepare something for one of them to read on my behalf. I did, and in it I included the quote from Tara’s dialogue about how “it’s always sudden,” which I’d always found poignant and moving. Probably only my younger daughter, who is my fellow Buffy fan in the family, recognized the reference, but we never talked about it.
It was an incredible piece of television. The best depiction of grief ever shown in a tv show. SMG'S acting here was off the charts, it is criminal this episode was never give any awards, it should be retrospectively awarded. An amazing piece of work from start to finish. One of the best episodes not only in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but of any tv series ever.
I'm always amazed reading things back that it didn't win awards, because it's superb. Of the performances, without a doubt SMG's is the best, she takes what is unbelievably raw and difficult material and just nails it.
This is literally what I always say about this episode-that it is one of the best pieces of art in all of television. It’s the only episode of Buffy that is truly “un-Buffy like” (for lack of a better way to put it), and stands on its own as having the feel of a filmed stage play. There’s not even anything supernatural in the episode except for the brief vampire encounter at the end, and even that has a much more gritty, raw feel than the usual choreographed fight scenes. In Buffy, the “real world” is not the norm; that brief bit of the supernatural at the end is “regular” life intruding on the tragic unreality feeling of the events of the episode. It never stops being powerful and heartbreaking, and I’ve honestly never seen anything else quite like it.
Yeah he does, and in Buffy & Angel he did create two excellent shows (never seen Firefly), though the more you hear the easier it is to dislike Whedon the man.
@@DarthNerdus1 We can dislike him but let's be real here. Joss was cancelled and blacklisted from the industry not for any actual criminal misdeeds but for basically being an asshole. The point I have regarding that is A. If every asshole in Hollywood was subjected to the same cancellation today, Hollywood as an industry would shut down in it's entirety by tomorrow B. I have no doubt many of those who pointed fingers at Joss also had their own moments of being unkind or treating people badly. Ironically actors, directors and others who actually did real criminal acts are welcomed back with open arms. Joss unfortunately isn't entitled to that.
I turned off Army of the Dead after 15 minutes because I thought I was having a migraine. I'm being 100% serious! The out-of-focus, shallow depth of field was too much for me. These movies are proof that the cinematographers have been holding Snyder's hand his whole career.
plot conveniences aside, I think the show was really good. Nailed the aesthetic, nailed the mix of whimsy and brutality, dialogue was well written, character arcs were solid, characters were likeable. I've seen people criticize the vault tec motivation for spoilers, but I think it makes perfect sense if you don't stupidly think they are just after money but instead total power and control, it is also in line with established lore. It was overall a very faithful adaptation, was very very surprised.
dude, did you ever played the games? do you even know a bit of the lore even? yes there are retcons but are legal ones, not made by someone who just bought the rights to make the serie there are a lot of things that happens in the serie that occurs in the games too due to the mechanics of the game itself, at this point i wouldn't even be surprised if the mysterious stranger or miss fortune come at some point in the show, and, a bit of knowledge there are some theories about who the mysterious stranger is, so don't get mad when the show starts to take a turn into the wild wasteland perk again...
You know why the show worked? Because they knew their target audience, and wrote exactly in a way their target audience would appreciate and enjoy. If they wrote it for people like you, it would not have the success it had. Pick your battles.
They did what most video game to show adaptations bombed at. They struck a balance between the players and the regular people who have never played the game let alone heard of it.
@@hbsavage0387 There was no balance, it's how I imagined the games in live action. They stuck to the lore, simply expanded upon it and turned it into a good show. Anybody's going to like a well made show.
The BoS elder was power hungry, he was corrupted. It's normal in fallout. Elder Elijah led the BoS to their destruction at Helios One against the NCR and ran away to the Big MT and The Sierra Madre by himself. Maximus believes in the Brotherhoods mission. Yet you can tell he doesn't agree with the elder or the knights after realizing their cowards and corrupt. He's the closet thing to an Elder Maxson that the west coast Brotherhood will have.
I'm a hard-core fallout fan, and I loved the show. It makes sense. Everyone was mad that the main character was a female but dude the whole game allows you to be what ever race and gender you want to be. You can be good or evil. The game is wacky and serious. Cannibals talk to you like everything is okay. The game shows you what people are really like after the apocalypse and people still complain like it should be based on a reality that doesn't exist
I was able to forgive some of the bad ideas in the episodes, just for the good acting and graphics of the show, but the one about "Wining the game of capitalism" from Vault Tec is beyond stupid. I got the feeling that Fallout 2 was the least played game of the saga, just where a lot of the Fallout Universe was explained.
Sure the writing is atrocious, it destroys the game's lore, and it completely betrays the point of the entire franchise. But sometimes you just need to turn your brain off and allow yourself to have fun. I give it a 6/10.
I don’t see how the writing is atrocious nor how it destroys the lore. You know what show actually did both of those things the Halo show that’s a perfect example of both of the things you just mentioned.
@@ericgore3717 also I would seriously like to hear why you think the writing is atrocious and how it destroys the lore. Because in my eyes it has neither issue but that’s my opinion and opinions are like buttholes everyone’s got one.
so things need to happen at certain points so the plot armour goes away so the charcters die because they came 5 min later lmao? what kinda dumbass saying is that and the bot is old world malfunctioning.... like think
bro what a bunch of complaining and not even understanding basic fallout lore? you being hateful out of the biggest bias really you just dont like any show with a strong female lead since mrs marvel sucked you just wanna hate like this is the most pathetic attempt to justrify your hate lmao
The tracker Lucy has in the head follows the trail of the head, doesn't lead directly to it. They type of tra king is akin to scent tracking. Your thinking of GPS tracking. Already failed this review right out of the gate.
Honestly I found the show to be tedious and 5/10 at best when I ignore how it butchers the lore. It's the typical cliche plot about a magical macguffin that can solve everyones problems. It has the complexity of a story written by a 4th grader and frankly is insulting to even the average mans intelligence.
Lots of fan Bois making personal attacks instead of addressing what you said. All that means is your words hold weight and they have no rebuttal. The people who can't criticize this show honestly probably don't have critical thinking skills and think that Bethesda still makes good games that are just getting better with time. Sad to say I'm not excited for the new elder scrolls at all. The mod community is going to be the main reason that game sells
