Dropped by there this past weekend, finally had a good day. Got 12 in the boat before lunch, almost all on a Lucky Craft LC1.5 silent in sexy chartreuse shad. Probably going back this weekend hoping for a similar or better day

Mr. Norm, what is the best time of the year to navigate on Headwaters? November thru March maybe?
@NormGfishing
@NormGfishing 19 дней назад
Sep through March for me have been the most challenging due to the wind and floating islands. However, these have been the best times to catch fish. No matter the month, it’s good to be careful out there.

Kenansville? I heard they resprayed it recently? I have been fishing the north end for the last few months, and it has been a tough bite. Hope it clears up soon with the summer rain.
@NormGfishing
@NormGfishing 27 дней назад
Kenansville is tough right now with the low water and spraying. The water is super dirty due to the dying grass. Hopefully things will turnaround in a couple of months.

Great info, where were you fishing, everything is so low. Haven't been able to fish, for weeks. Takes 3 hours to clean boat with cover and car at Headwaters. I do just the opposite, spinning rod, 1/64 weight screw lock, with a 2.75 ketec, 15 pound braid, 2/0 hook, Stays up longer, slow fall, a smooth drag, fast tip, and big ones can resist.
@NormGfishing
@NormGfishing 27 дней назад
Yes. That 2.75 ketec will catch some big ones. All lakes are low in this area. The mud boat doesn’t need much water so it’s not a problem for me. But I can see how an outboard will be an issue.

During normal water levels, when the water is reasonably clear, I've always done VERY well up & down that entire west bank. I've literally lost count on all of the 6 to 8 lb'ers I've caught up & down that entire west bank during the cooler months from mid November through April. I've caught big bass here on both artificials as well as wild shiners. My single best day ever here, was back in late November of '05. Using wild shiners, I fished only in the cove of that SE spillway and never moved. Didn't need to: I caught 35 bass weighing 165 lbs!!! The 5 biggest that day was: two 10's, a 9, and two 8's, for a 45 lb five fish limit. My biggest bass from Stick Marsh/Farm 13 so far is four 12 lb'ers. 2 came on shiners while the other 2 came on artificials.

Great video. I've been in Palm Bay for a year and half now and i still haven't made it out to Headwaters yet. It seems like there's always blockages and since i don't know the lake I want to get stuck out there by myself.
@NormGfishing
@NormGfishing Месяц назад
I understand. It’s not to bad. But there always some risks. I was pretty far south in this video. You can stay more North and be okay. If the S-canal has islands floating, that is when things can become risky. If you see too much grass/islands there. Turnaround

You and a few other fellow great YT fishing teachers convinced me to try speed worms But good Loard they are popular in my area as NOBODY had them left in stock and they were 2x more expensive at Amazon VS my local Cabelas or BPS So I orderd some from Cabelas along with some tungsten bullet weights and different styles 5/0 hooks from Gamakatsu and Owner Ive already invested well over $100 in speed worms without even getting one wet yet Next off day I will see what I can do with them as most of my favorite bass lakes are 70% weed and lily flats less than 10' deep perfect for fan casting a speed worm Lakes by me get SOOOO much fishing pressure when I catch a bass I try to get her unhooked take a pic and back into the water ASAP and I dont really get to admire her beauty that much pics are nice but don't really due a basses beauty justice Thankfully 8/10 fisherman I see at my favorite lakes have no idea whatsoever how to correctly fish these lakes so the bass fishing is still very very good there are only a handful of methods to effectively bass fish thick weeds and pads and Im shocked how few people I see at my lakes use them

Great as usual, which lake were you, fishing? I noticed a buzz bait. Did you use it. During the 90's, always caught bass on buzz bait. Can't seem to caught them on it anymore. Poppers and spooks, have replaced the buzz. Many of lakes, around PB, are very shallow, with this drought.
@NormGfishing
@NormGfishing Месяц назад
This was Headwaters. I spent too much time fishing the musky lure and ran out of low light conditions to try the buzz bait. Water is definitely low for all the lakes around PB.

I've said it before that headwaters is the most dangerous place in America to fish because of the floating mats. Many people will spend the night out there and still be lost as can be tomorrow morning with no clue how to save themselves. Leave your ego at home
@JoshDukes-dj5bi
@JoshDukes-dj5bi Месяц назад
In this ole Texas boy's modest opinion the Johnson Beetle Spin and the H&H spinner bait will not only contend with but edge out their higher priced competition. Additionally when the inevitable happens and you loose one to the lake or tree limb at the most you'll only be saying goodbye to is about $4 and that's if it was purchased at a price gouging store.

Heading out to Headwaters tomorrow....coming over from Orlando. And, as much as I'm looking forward to fishing that area (it's been a bucket list of mine for years), I'm not looking forward to navigating that area. Florida lakes have this love affair with dangerously shallow water levels. You've got to REALLY know the area you're in (or have balls of steel) to get up on plane i these lakes. One second you're in 5ft of water, the next 5", and nothing is posted. That said, this lake seems very promising. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Headwaters strictly catch and release (for bass)???
@phillamoore157
@phillamoore157 Месяц назад
This was a blast to watch. The wife and I are heading over there from Orlando tomorrow for the first time. This is a bucket list trip I've been wanting to do for years now. But, it's a first for me, and it sounds like navigating that are can be a nail biter. I know my experience on Apopka was miserable because of how shallow that lake is, and you don't know if you're in 6ft of water or 6", which makes it impossible (or extremely dangerous) to be up on plane. If you're still reading these comments you got any tips? I'd like to fish this same area at some point prior to heading back home.
