Durante, Bolger, and Hodges are pure delights singing and dancing to TOGETHER. This was no throw away number at all. They worked on it! And what terrific results!
I am listening with tears. I grew up watching Don Messer. I always loved the fiddle (it was never called a violin) because my dad was a Cape Bretoner and he loved playing the fiddle. Dad played by ear and had a sound all his own (everybody that heard him play said that) I think his sound came from the love of making music; because when he played their was a beautiful look of shinning love on his face. Listening to Ned Landry and Don Messer just transport me back 70 years.
Waldo Munro, the piano player would come play at my grandmothers house when he was a teen, Lived just down the street in Westville N.S. Would be fun to see.
The skinny guy in the Martin Men is my dad. He passed away about 25 years ago. This was so fun to find and watch. He used to tell us stories about all the fun stuff he used to do…it was great to see him “alive” again.
Thanks so very much for uploading this. How fun to see pre-Honeymooners Mr. Gleason in an earlier comedic seasonal role. Thank you as well for your very thorough explanation of the history of this series. Incidentally, today was the first time I had ever seen The Life of Riley. I looked it up because my dearly departed mother was fond of the expression, "Leading the life of Riley," and I am very happy that I did as I love classic television from the 'Golden Age'. Be well and stay safe!
Oh my goodness that is GENIUS! Playing the drums uo his arm and down his nose Inalmost spit my iced tea out of my nose. Hilarious. My dad loved Durante. RIP to both.
The drummer used to teach us occasionally at B.C.Silver High School in the early 70's. We were a bad lot that's for sure- traded an education for 'non stop fun' (apparently) Used to go to the tavern for lunch if we had any money...
