I’m knitting the Ochre Moss sweater by Andrea Mowry, colorwork is so addictive. I’m starting with the sleeves and it is flying by! It will be my second colorwork sweater this year.
Fall sweaters on the needles are; The bookclub cardigan, Alasuq Tynn, the dreyma and my own version a Setesdal cardigan :D ... probably won't finish them this fall (or winter for that matter).
The bookclub cardigan is also on my list! It looks like the Taylor Swift cardigan. That's a lot of cables and colorwork. Sounds like the coziest winter!!
I’m working on the Porty Cardigan by Gudrun Johnston using Armscote manor Portland as the main color with blues and greens for the fair isle yoke. Just about done with the second sleeve and ready to a steek. Love adding norwegian ribbon to the button band to add a nice finish.
If you like a cozy read, I like T. Kingfisher's Saint of Steel-series, which is a... feminist medieval fantasy YA for actual adults? The paladin in the first installment knits in between his murderous rages. I can relate. I'm knitting a Bibliophile (slightly-more-shaped-than-basic) raglan and a Tioradh by Kate Davies using a motif from Knitovation by Andrea Rangel. Most of my planned projects are all-over stranded colourwork or actual Fair Isle so I'll be silent about that ;)
Hi Emma. Currently I am knitting on 2 Rowan patterns. Reef by Quail Studio which uses Rowan brushed fleece and the Forever sweater by Lisa Richardson in felted tweed. Always have a pair of socks, mittens or gloves on the go to take out and about. 🇬🇧
I’m working on a big cabled cardigan - Citadel by Joji Locateli. I’m using knit picks high desert tweed in stargazing (greyish navy with tweedy flecks). I’m nearly done the collar/button band. I’m completely obsessed and can’t wait to wear it!
@@barnabyknits yes it was a perfect amount of cables and not. If it had been much more complex, there’s now way I’d have finished in time for winter. But now I’m cable obsessed, so definitely want to make something with all over cables. Maybe a smaller garment though!
If you like true crime podcasts You might like Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintero- it’s on audible and it’s better to listen than read because it’s about a true crime podcast and you hear the podcast in the audio book. It was really good!
I will absolutely check out that book! Apparently it's popular, since I'm 88th in line at the library for it now, but there are 23 copies available, so I might not have to wait 15 years for it. Thanks for the tip.
Ooh, glad you enjoyed “The Forgotten Girls”! I probably haven’t made progesss since I commented on your previous video bc our book club has had scheduling difficulties 😅 I listened to Jennette McCurdy’s “I’m Glad My Mom Died” and Maria Bamford’s “Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult” which are obviously both celebrity memoirs but unexpectedly both about mental health, mothers, and how the authors coped with challenges in early adulthood. Jennette’s book was worth the hype, even though I wasn’t much of a fan from her Nickelodeon days, and Maria’s book was full of her offbeat dark comedy. Fiber arts-wise, I’m waiting on parts so I can build a bobbin winder for my EEW to efficiently rewind my singles (to even out twist and to ply from the starting ends so my worsted spins are really smooth)! And, I’m finishing up a cabled Honeycomb Aran sweater… turns out I knit the body pieces way too long, so i painstakingly cut off, picked out, and grafted the twisted rib hem. I’ll like it much better this way, so it’s worth the extra effort!
Great recommendations - I will absolutely be listening to them! I love the Honeycomb Aran. It was my first sweater ever! The pattern has (luckily) since been edited to fix this mistake but I ended up having to rip out and re-knit an entire sleeve, which made me crazy...
I'm working on Joe Batts Arm, with a tiny, hard to read chart, as my home project. I just started a double knit hat for Christmas at Sea, because I am intrigued by this new technique but wanted something quick and small in case I didn't enjoy it. So far I am enjoying it a lot.
Hi Emma! Currently I'm knitting on my homage to RBG, the Dissent pullover using the designer's "hack" to steek it into a cardigan. It's my first steek - eek! And I'm purling the first and last stitch of my steek a la yours truly! I'm also going to try and felt the steek since I'm using spin cycle for the color and a non-superwash for the main color. This is also the first time for me mixing superwash and non-superwash. Not to sure if the yarns like eachother but we're going with it. It's been in my queue for years. And now I'm finally knitting it. Right before the presidential election. I'm also planning on knitting an Isabell Kraemer pullover using the neon green yarn from Junction Fiber Mill and Harrisville Designs NIghtshades in their green. And I'm going to steek that one as well! It'll be my christmas sweater. But I do see how it can be totally relevant to the spooky season! Anyhow I love hearing what you're getting up to! Maybe I'll see you at Rhinebeck this year!
I love to hear it! I'm interested to hear if the steek works for you with Spincycle. I think it might be woolly enough that it does... sounds like a great sweater! And I love the green and green - Junction is having a great moment with the bright colors, and I'm so here for it!!
This week the finalization on my fleece sink. Gifted double deep cast iron, enameled sink! Hot water tank on its way-6gal! Very exciting. Knitting on my Traveler hoodie in a cashmere, a deep purple with a lilac contrast. Might add a center pocket.
Your fair isle jumper is beautiful. I’m knitting the Lilleke Light in beautiful John Arbon harvest hues in fingering and some of the new Appledore Aran. You are so busy and yet you produce so much! ❤❤
Another great episode! Congratulations on 150 episodes. Heads up that all Woolfolk yarn that I've ever used is the worst pilling I have EVER seen. So I would suggest away from a sweater. I made my stonecrop with woolfolk and now it's a sweater that I only ever wear in the house because it looks so bad.
Your velicore is beautiful and I love your new forget-me-not cowl. If John Arbon put some kits together, I’ll be in. I love their yarn and am knitting on a Lilleke Light made from one of their kits at the moment. All of your knitting is beautiful 😻.
...I need to know your secret for using Barber cords for a provisional cast on because this sounds brilliant. Do you just wrap yarn around the cord and then slide them onto a needle?!
Always enjoy your ramblings! I like shortie socks too and can usually get a regular pair and a shortie pair from a 100 gm skein especially with contrast hells and toes.
Great time with you. Earthtone Girl has shown a shortie sock pattern with a tab heel. It's a very interesting pattern and something different. She raves about it and I now have the pattern and will be giving it a try. Just an idea!
Oh, I LOVE Denise!! She is one of my favorite people and I look forward to her hugs every year at Rhinebeck. I will absolutely be checking out that pattern too - thanks for the rec!
Another fun podcast - thank you. A book series that I have enjoyed very much - some as audiobooks, is the Chet and Bernie books by Spencer Quinn. The narrator is a dog whose owner is a private detective. Best wishes from Melbourne, Australia.
Oh, wow. That sounds SO fun. I will be checking that out! And wow, Melbourne is a whole world away from me! I bet it's so lovely there - I would love to visit Australia one day!
Parks and Rec is my favorite sitcom! I’m also in the middle of a B99 rewatch. It’s great background show while doing chores or knitting. The Forgotten Girls is a memoir about the lost potential of young women in rural America. I have the audiobook checked out from the Philly library now! It’s fascinating to learn about how factors such as generational trauma, religion, and culture restrain young women from opportunity. (Definitely a downer but eye-opening reading from the perspective of a woman raised with a lot of educational privileges)
Daily practice is so smart. You can really accomplish a lot. Spinning during the Tour de Fleece was so beneficial to improving my spinning …then I started a sweater test knit and finally finished today-with the deadline in five days! Did not spend one moment spinning. Now will have to “relearn” how to spin. You can do it with your sweater with just a short time a day. I am saying this so I hear it!
Ah, so true! I feel like my spinning has been very erratic these days and I would love to be able to just sit down for fifteen minutes a day to get through that enormous pile of blue fleece!
Oh my you make me laugh and make me smile. I loved listening to Walter Isaacson's book on Leonardo Da Vinci. Amazing !And I also love Mick Herron, Craig Johnson... Walter was seriously cool. Hard to believe Leonardo was born in 1450whatever.... And Crag and Mick are pure brain candy . LOVE your sweater!! Thank you
My mom definitely has that biography in audible so I will absolute check it out. I also borrowed the first Craig Johnson mystery book from the library on audiobook and I can't wait to start! Thanks for the rec 😄
did you use the same colors for the nice bonnie cowl in the video as stated on ravelry? The scarf looks much darker there. I would like to knit the scarf in the lighter colors. Do you sell the pattern?
I took a break from knitting for many years because I was living in tropical climates, and then went back to a cold climate for about a year and picked it up again. Then Covid hit, life, everything else and I didn’t touch it. I just had hip replacement and wanted to find something else besides sewing to do during recovery since I couldn’t really set up by my machine for a while and bam! Back to knitting. Found a whole bunch of yarn and have been working through it. Everything from garter stitch Scholl to get my finger back in shape all the way back to fair isle cap, I’m looking at getting back into Icelandic knitting which I did a lot of in my 20s and 30s and was raised doing. I am so happy I ran into your channel!
Great question! If I'm using sticky Shetland wool and small needles for fair isle, I only catch a float if it's 8 or more stitches. I try to do it loosely. I found that when I first started knitting colorwork, my tension was all over the place, but after I practiced a lot, it seemed to even out.
I love your new fair isle sweater. What are your favorite yarn stores in Toronto? I live in NC but my daughter lives in Toronto, so I spend a lot of time there. I usually go to The Knitting Loft, because it is closest and easy to get to, and it's a great shop. But always interested visiting shops that are new to me. Great episode. Please do take care of yourself, you do Sooooo much.
I have never actually been to The Knitting Loft! But I might check it out this time. I am a huge fan of EweKnit (my aunt frequents that store) and Romni Wools, although Romni is more like a warehouse. It's very big! There's also one near St. Clair West station called Knit-O-Matic that I really like. I might try to go on a little tour with my aunt if she is amenable!
@@barnabyknits I have been to Ewewknit but it is downtown and a bit of an effort to get to from Markham. I've never heard of Roman Wools but definitely will check it out next time I am there. I have been to Knit-O-Matic on my last visit. Got some lovely Fibre Co. Road to China that will go great with another yarn in my stash. Thank you for the reply. Good wishes for your marathon!! Romni Wools - spellcheck :(
Great to see you Emma. Eat well, sleep well and knit to relax. There are only 24 hours in a day and it is essential to rest and recoup all the energy you expend. 🇬🇧
Do yourself a favour, if you enjoy eating a lot of rice ; buy a Zojirushi rice cooker. They are compact and will last you forever. Cooks rice and stays warm for 12 hours. You will not regret it! (Pick one up at Yorkdale during your trip….cheap for you in Canadian dollars…). Enjoy your trip to TO. (I am in Guelph). ~
Great knitting as always Emma. Clearly you are in touch with your inner self and that’s good. ❤❤I love your baby sweater, lucky baby to receive such an original sweater. I also love your generosity as demonstrated by your gift spinning and knitting. ❤❤
As a Dutch woman, I hope you enjoyed that marathon ;) On the topic of "normal people doing the Olympics", these two Aussie brothers have been doing almost all Olympic events... in a single week. (They're pretty in shape.) As a rower I thought it was hilarious, although they're actually scary good at it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s0GwhUOF5jU.html&pp=ygUSb2x5bXBpY3MgaW4gYSB3ZWVr
Your baby cardigan is beautiful! Emma, but I don't understand why you feel compelled to do so much at once: student, employee (for two jobs, it sounds like), prepping for a marathon, chorus, church, and who knows what else. You look and sound exhausted and it seems like a great way to get sick (at the worst) and suck the joy out of life. Please take care.
I am exhausted! A lot of things are going on at once and it's very hot where I live, so that definitely doesn't help! I'm remembering to start taking zinc and vitamin C supplements and trying to get as much rest as I can.
I usually enjoy your podcasts but this time the volume was SO uneven. You dropped your voice and spoke rapidly a lot, so I missed all that. Good running to you.
Your sweater looks wonderful. I'm looking for a steeked v neck Fair Isle vest pattern with a traditional fit- any ideas? Like your sweater but sleeveless. I found a couple that are no longer available, including a Meg Swanson design, apparently oop. Right now I am making my second pair of socks, this one with an afterthought heel- I LOVE it! I used the second end to make the heel while still working the leg, so I can use up all the skein without guessing about the amount to reserve for the heel.I'm making socks because, like you, I have more sweaters than I need. I recommend an old Gene Hackman/ Ed Harris movie, Absolute Power, it's really good with many cameos by great actors. Good for election season....
I think this one by MJ Mucklestone might be nice - you can sub in other patterns if you just like the shape, and use her numbers. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vementry-vest Thank you for the recommendation! I'll have to check out that movie. And I'm so excited to hear about your socks!
I am embarrassed to say I drooled when you showed your Fair Isle. I love the colors sooo much too! I loved West Wing.I watch it maybe once a year. I listen to Andy Roddick pod cast Served. About Tennis. Love your podcast even when you are tired. Hang in. rest and enjoy. Have you ever used liquid IV drink to hydrate ?
I will have to check out that podcast! Thanks so much for your kind words. I also love the sweater! And yes, we have Liquid IV but I don't drink it too often because I can get a product that has twice the sodium called LMNT (I know, insane, but necessary in the summertime!)
