Picked one up for 49 bucks in very decent condition. I used it so far on my D850 with the challenging 46mp sensor but it is crazy sharp. The D850 destroys mediocre lenses but this combo works great.
I wonder if the Taronar 45mm f1.8 is as good. funny thing is that I had a Taron PR some years ago but I sold it. Now I wish I'd kept it! I just found your channel - it's great!
My biggest surprise zoom was the Chinon 28-85mm f/4 Zoom, a rebranded Tokina Zoom. Besides being absolutely rock-solid built with all metal construction with a quite unique zooming mechanism, a sort of semi-internal mechanism where the overall length of the lens never changes but the front element slides in and out, the lens was also quite sharp when stopped down, but what really blew me away was the Bokeh! The closest focusing distance is about 70 centimeters or less than 2.5 feet if you went that close the Bokeh shouldn't be this brilliant for an 80s zoom, it absolutely proves the moniker of "Bokina" that was given to Tokina lenses in the 70s and 80s as some of their lenses were well-known for their Bokeh qualities.
@VintageOptiks great Video Thanks! Im a fan of the TLRs, have you ever messed with one of the Mamiya TLR lens? I see them around for cheap when they are full of fungus. If they are simple enough to clean like the barrel lens I would love to give it a try. I guess they would be about the same in construction.
Thank you! Yes, I did clean a couple of the Mamiya TLR lenses about two years ago. I used to have the C220. They are quite easy to clean in my opinion, but I have been doing this for a while. Not sure if you have experience cleaning lenses.
@@VintageOptiks Thanks, I have a C330. I never taken a lens apart but I am technically oriented and I work with small objects. You made it look easy so I my grab one of the cheap Lenses on eBay and give it a try.
Bought mine new almost fifty years ago. It is an an outstanding lens (though the other Nikon pre-AI lenses are no slouches either) and I've taken some of my favorite pictures with it.
I’ve used peroxide for a lot of different lenses and never had any issues. However, since not all lenses are made the same way I can’t guarantee that it won’t affect all lenses ever made.
I was looking for this review with real unedited photos and video sample. Took me a while. Had to click this to verify because of the title is lacking. Please do change the video title to Minolta MD Zoom 75-150mm f/4
They are so cheap but so, so good. It blows my mind that they aren't yet considered a classic alongside the Helios 44 58mm lenses. Do not hesitate, just buy one. Also fairly easy to service as well.
Always prefer the F2 DC design more. This is a good lens for someone to get into vintage mechanical Nikon bodies. I guess it focuses faster on the Phony than a native AF lens. Sharpness is boring.
Hi! Unfortunately there is no M42 to Fuji X slim (13-18mm)helicoid adapter that I know of. There are only regular M42 to Fuji X adapters that will not allow you to reach infinity. I wish I could help you but unfortunately I can’t find any parts that will work for you.
Awesome videos! Thank you for such a good videos that make us try something new. Do you think you could find a way to adapt Yashica 45mm f1.8 from Yashica 1C Lynx 5000E 35mm Film Camera as well as UVTOPCOR 53mm f2.0 from TOPCON UNI 35mm SLR?

Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos. Regarding the two lenses - I know that people have found a way to adapt the Yashica 45mm f1.8. I personally haven't done it. If you Google it, you will find some info. And the UV Topcor from the Topcon UNI - I don't have experience with that lens. I know it uses the Topcon UV mount and the lens has a leaf shutter. So you will need to open the leaf shutter and leave it permanently open, so you can use the lens. And then you have to find a way to make a mount that fits on the Topcon UV on one side and on the other side has to fit your camera mount. It is also important what kind of camera you are using, because not every camera mount makes senses for these types of DIY projects. I made a bunch of DIY videos that can give you an idea of my approach. Not sure if you saw them. Cheers!
I had one of these for a while, I never could get used to how front heavy it was on my camera. I replaced it with the Olympus 35-70 f/3.5-4.5 which has given me quite satisfactory results in the package the size of a 50mm 1.4, and a little extra utility with its close focus feature
This is the best review of photographic equipment I have ever seen. Cool presentation of the material, unique style and just generally cool work. We need new releases!
Sorry, unfortunately I'm swamped with projects at the moment and can't offer lens repair services. But there are some great repairmen out there that can help you. Are you in the US?
@@VintageOptiks they are not taking new repair orders so back to square one. It seems no one in the US is helpful for this which seems astounding. Either they are all so stacked with business or they no longer care to do these services.
@@132indo Unfortunately there aren't many people left in the US who still repair old cameras and lenses. And the ones that do it are swamped with orders. A lot of the old technicians have retired or sadly passed away, and there aren't many young people who are interested in continuing this kind of work.
What a sleeper of a lens this appears to be! If you told me the sample images were from the OM 90 or 100 f2, I would have believed you---not many lenses would pass that perceptual threshold. I have the 80 f4, which is an absolute peach at 1:1, and knew of the 135, but I had no idea it had this kind of performance outside of macro ranges. Given the prices, I have to doubt that others do either.
Yeah, it's a really special lens! That's why I wanted to share it with others, since it's still quite affordable for the kind of quality you can get from it. Definitely a sleeper!
I just bought this lens at the bargin price of $49 AUD because it had fungus. Its all cleaned up and ready to go when my adaptor arrives. I do have a question regarding ibis. I'm a bit confused how to set this on my oly em10 mk2 because its not a fixed focal length. How do overcome this? Do you need to set the ibis each time you change the focal length? Great vid btw 👌
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. Wow, that's a great price for this awesome zoom! Regarding IBIS - yes, I would recommend setting up the IBIS every time you change focal lengths. Sometimes you can get away with it if there isn't that big of a difference in focal lengths, but for the most part it's best to try to keep up with it especially if you are shooting hand held at slow shutter speeds. Cheers!
i have accepted the reality of you not coming back, but will still secretly hope for a review of the konica 28mm f1.8 lens, and the konica 24mm f2.8 lens (the later compact version). all the best!
Unfortunately I don't have the 28mm f1.8 Konica ( it's crazy expensive). And I used to have the 24mm f2.8 but ended up selling it (now I wish I didn't). But I do have some really fun new lenses that I'm excited to review. Hopefully I'll be able to put some new videos together in the next few months. Cheers!
Another one arrives this week, attached to a Yashica Electro AX 35mm . Under 30. And this week, I'm not sick. Not sure if the Mount is M42 or a Yashica Contax. Seller is not the guy to ask...
I've owned all three of the most common brands. I sold my Revuenon and Rikenon, but I kept the Sears as it was slightly better all around. Maybe because it was in near mint condition as well. SN# 270044. I also prize my Super Takumar 50 f1.4 SN# 1134444 (8 elements). I am a huge Sergio Leone fan, too.
That’s great to hear that you’re a fan of this Sears lens as well. I’ve also tried a few other brands or names that this lens was named under, but the Sears is my favorite. Sergio Leone was the man! I can watch Spaghetti westerns any day :)
one thing that doesn't get mentioned...the Zebra and im guessing earler Fleks, 18cm min focus drops to nearly f4 at closest focus. Its not the same as the MC 2.4s. I love them both, but the MC is superior optically.
The Flickr group's link with the explananing the lens modification doesn't seem to work, can you please add the instructions to your video. Many thanks.
