I’ll also take you behind the shoots to show you tips and tricks for having success. The image always starts in your mind. You don’t need expensive gear to make incredible art. All you need is an imagination and practice!
I would like to say I always enjoy your videos/reviews. The samples you provide are always appreciated as well. I noticed in the Canon ef 85mm f1.2 that the eyes were not in focus/focus missed. I don't know if that is an issue with the Eos R but on my Sony a7r3 it usually doesn't miss focus on the eyes when using an af adapter.
Thank you! No the adapter works fine with ef glass. My 35 1.4 if is perfect on there. It’s just the ef 85 1.2 is very slow motor wise and super soft wide open so those 2 things in conjunction are going to net a bunch of soft or slightly missed shots wide open.
Excellent video. Very well explained. Good comparisons, they seem honest to me. Hey, there you have the Z8 and the z7iii comes, with excellent focus, so you no longer miss Nikon's raw
@@SNAPAVELI Yes, I'm also interested in that z7iii camera, it has to be cheaper than the z8, and according to my estimate, it's about 3,250 dollars. It shouldn't cost more. But we'll see, since some claim that it won't even go on sale
You really have to play around with shutter speed. I keep mine pretty low around 1-125th but you still have to take a lot of shots , sometimes they just don’t show up for a few frames. Strobes for me were too bright
Very good and thorough comparison I must say the Canon R5 is just a beautiful camera. I had it and because of RU-vid and all these reviews of the Sony cameras I changed to Sony. And then Iwas so disappointed because of the very poor autofocus performance. I’m so surprised that no one on RU-vid talks about this big problem (in forums they do…), it always hit on the eyebrows or on the eyelashes and the iris was always unsharp ( I want perfect performance like the canon’s and no post production faked sharpening…) I talked to many people from Sony at events and even send it in for repair but in private they told me the camera just can’t do it better. And I should change back to Canon which I did now having the Canon R8 and even with 24 megapixels I am so happy with the camera I just missed the IBIS but that’s fine because the camera is very small. Now I ordered the Fuji 100 s Mark two and I will try it out and keep the Canon system for sure at the same time. Thanks for your content definitely followed you :)
Thank you! I totally agree with you. I jumped around for a while between Nikon Sony and canon. Canon has the most reliable autofocus in my opinion. I also like the colors. Nikon and canon has better dynamic range at times but nothing beats the gfx files in my opinion. I’m currently saving for a 100ii myself. R5 and 100ii will be a great pair for me.
Of these two lenses I pick a Plena or Samyang 135mm 1.8. They're smaller, costs less, gets the job done, sharpness is perfect wide open. If I had 200mm, I'd propably use it a lot, but with a monopod.
@@SNAPAVELI No,I use it mostly around 100mm or 135mm. I'll reframe my question. If we ignore 70-200, Which one is better 85 f1.2 or 50 f1.2. I'm more interested in 50 f1.2 as it is lighter weight, but everybody says 85mm has that extra magic in the photos. Does 50mm perform like 85mm or there is a big difference?
@@gauravgoel8092 I would definitely agree with that. The 85mm 1.2 wide open is one of the nicest renderings you will find. I think the 50 just has less wow factor than the 85 personally. I use the 50 more in the studio but not outdoor.
@@SNAPAVELI ok. Thanks a lot for your information. I'll try to demo both the lens on rent if possible now to avoid wrong purchase as I plan to buy only one of these primes. But thanks again for your help.
J, Thanks so much for this video. I have watched it a number of times and as a result bought a copy of the Nikon 105. Q. would you use this lens on a GFX 100s ? Thanks again for your video.
Thank you! Still one of my all time favorite lenses. I’m really not sure if there is an adapter that will autofocus it on gfx? I’ve seen some people use 105 sigma ef mount on gfx and have great images.
You really should try more Sony and Nikon cameras. Imo they are better than canon now with each brands most recent generations. The a7rv separates tones much nicer than the canon r5
I definitely want to get back into the Nikon system at some point once I get my Fuji system filled out. Nikon files were always great to me. The autofocus is finally catching up
Bro thank you. Literally what i needed to know about it because i want to start recording my evf for teaching and videos. No frills and straight to the point. Subscribed
I’m a full time professional commercial/editorial photographer and just recently purchased the 50s ii. The local store sent me both the 100 ii and the 50ii and I ended up keeping the 50sii and I shoot professionally every day! I found the 100sii files to be unnecessarily large and the comparison between the 2 files wasn’t enough to justify the price difference. Unless you do landscape/architecture the 50sii is perfect! I purchased 2 bodies to have a backup which I was able to do with the price difference. You have to use the right camera for your style and workflow. I don’t use high frame rate burst. I’m shoot slower and intentionally so medium format digital is perfect. The Pentax 645z and the Fuji gfx 50sii are now my everyday cameras!
Thank you for your videos. I discovered your channel recently. It would be very nice if you could compare other types of sensors (like gfx to fuji apsc like xh2 s or not). Sony to canon/nikon also would be awesome. Thanks again gor your wonderfull work.
Thank you for the videos and files, a great help in deciding if i want to give the (now pricewise very interesting) GF100S a shot for slower paced work alongside my Canon cameras. The ISO performance and ability to extremely push dark files/shadows without the files breaking apart is awesome. the resolution difference between the R5 and 100s is interestingly much lower than i had anticipated, i am sure its different for stopped down landscape work but wide open the RF lenses are so extremely sharp that the Fuji lenses do not compete. i would even say the R5 files have more usable resolution than the GF100s with the 80 1.7. despite having less than half the megapixels. the 110 2 looks quite a bit better but still...not so much in between as i would have thought.
You just keep saying Canon sharper, Canon sharper.... :) so funny. Tamron is clearly better than you show here... I'm using the lens as my main .... Its a super sharp lens. I'm not sure if you have a bad copy there, or just bad intentions. :) Peace!
It’s a valid comment! The bokeh on the tamron was nicer than canon and the lens flare was handled way better. Perhaps I didn’t articulate that well enough. I’ve only use the 35 sigma 1.2 adapted on my Nikon I used to have. But no such adapter exists for canon. I loved the rendering. Hopefully canon will make a 35 1.2 rf. It’s just gonna be way overpriced for sure
Can the canon ef 50mm 1.2 be used for your the technique in your course? Or should I get the sigma 50mm 1.4 art instead as you recommend? The rf 50mm is too cost prohibitive and I have no 50mm's so I will need to buy one. I only have tamron 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 and 135mm f2. Thanks!
@@SNAPAVELI Thanks! It is just that they are not that different in second hand price where I'm from. $770 for the canon ef 1.2 and $600 for the sigma 1.4 art. So i am tempted by the 1.2 aperture. The older sigma 1.4 hsm is just $240 though.
That’s a tough question! I had the ef 50 1.2 for a year and it was love hate, it’s really soft wide open. Beautiful bokeh but 1.2 was very soft. If you could test both it would be really helpful. People bring the sigma 50 1,4 to my workshops and it performs well.
@@SNAPAVELI I could probably live with trading softness for bokeh on outdoor shoots. But based on what you said that it is easier for the sigma to achieve what you are teaching because of the larger front element, I would probably go the sigma art route now. And just take out the 135mm if I really need more bokeh. Thanks for the replies!
To be fair, 28-70 is not trying to replace the 85 f1.2, that be the job for 70-200 f/2.8. Sadly, since I HAVE to have the 70-200 for shooting sports, and I am not a pro who makes money of off photography, I will probably never be able to justify getting the 85.
An AF test with an LM lens would be more meaningful-something like the 45-100. GFX system uses a lot of DC drive lenses and just like their APS-C lenses they aren’t great for moving subjects. So frankly the results tell me two things: Fuji needs to release faster glass and 2) maybe the 100 iii or iv will be the one fast enough for more dynamic shots. The new body seems like a huge jump forward but I don’t think the 55 is a fast lens.
Definitely! I tried my 110 f2 but I think it needed an update. It wasn’t focusing well at all and that lens is fast. I wish I had the camera for more time to test more
Mindy is one of most beautiful ladies I’ve ever seen. Inside and Out. Thanks Mindy for making an old man feel good about the world. 😊Beautiful Work Marcus .
There is no way in hell the 28-70 replaces any "L" primes. The bokeh and subject separation is not even close. I've used all of those. 28-70 may replace the cheaper primes (the 1.8s)if that is what people mean. But it's not at all in the league of of the "L" primes in the overall "look." The only time I would use that lens is for a wedding, where you don't want to be changing lenses on the go. Other than that, it's heavy, expensive and overrated.
get both. the 50meg sensor is a legend and the size is perfect. the phase detect on the 100s though is why you want this one as well. i will never ever sell our GFX anything. Having both won't do you wrong.
Great job. It seems that GFX pulls out of the shadows better. It would be very very interesting to see a similar session with Nikon z8 or z9. There also seems to be an advantage over Canon in the shadows
Thank you! Yes it’s night and day if you really need to bring back an image. The gfx wins over r5 every time. Not totally sure about z9. It has pretty good dr but not near as good as pulling back highlights as gfx
@@SNAPAVELI Thanks for the answer. It may very well be, yes. You're right. On the other hand, there is not much light here))) In general, the atmosphere is created by twilight
what are the file sizes options in RAW for the x100ii? Because I have the 50sii, and their size is probably my mac's limit that I would want my computer to handle...before it get's bogged down. Can you shoot 50MB files in Raw with the x100ii?
@4:25min into clip, If a person needs 120/fps they need 120/fps it's not for everyone but for surveillance, racing, contact sports, etc. etc, thier is much need for a Stabilized Systems, It's not all about certian genres (Fashion,Portriats..selfies) but you know this !!!
Very good point! It’s a market that definitely needed addressed! In 10 years perhaps all full frames will be capable of that. I just can’t imagine the culling process for that
Yeah great image quality from that Gfx. Great colors separation. But man if you want the best colors and files from Canon you should try the R3. There's something special about the files from tham cam. The WB is way more precise which I found is helpful as a starting point even in Raw, then the colors are better/ deeper on the R3. The dynamic range is also better ( probably not medium format level) and the files are less digital in my opinion. Don't let that 24mpx fools you, it's the best image from a canon camera.
@@SNAPAVELI I also have a cinema camera so I don't use it too often but when I do it's as a B-cam. The files are very good in Raw (6k) but the limiting factor is clog 3... I hate canon for that to be honest. Having that gorgeous 6k raw in clog 2 would have been Soo nice. The files are huge too, it needs more efficient codecs too.
@@SNAPAVELI thanks for the reply! The latest big update for the GFX II made improvements in AF tracking and performance. It came out yesterday, so quite fresh :)
Fantastic comparison!! Which full frame camera system would you recommend regarding the image quality from its lenses and camera sensors? Nikon canon or even Panasonic?
Thank you! I’ve heard Panasonic sensors are great! I do t have any experience with their lenses. I would say out of the ones currently. The Nikon sensors are the best in my opinion and their higher end lenses are really good but very huge.
Only if you're an incompetent photographer that can't understand that each different tool provides an array of pros and cons for an artistic effect that will interface differently tp and for each artist's preferences and goals....whereas in nutrition the food is a fuel and always needed for health, with preferences for taste being secondary and having no effect on whether the nutrition acts as fuel.
@@locophoto6881 Really? I was waiting for you to make this revelation to me after nearly fifty years of photography, and being pro for a long while!!! A camera, any camera has but one function and that is to record what the photographer aims tha lens and the camera at. That is it. \These days, almost 100 % of cameras on offer from the big makers are more than competent for the job. Any differences are just due to gimmicks and marketing. That is gidt of it.
Stop the RF 85 1.2 down to 1.4, and separation will be much better: owning this lens myself, this bleeding is imho less a camera but rather a lens thing - stopping down to 1.4 fixes most of this. The Fuji lens doesn't get that fast, even taking into account the crop factor. A fair comparison would be RF 85 1.2 stopped down to 1.4 vs 80 1.7 wide open on Fuji (both approx. at 1.4 full frame equivalent). To use the RF 85 1.2 wide open with premium results, good lighting is needed. It's a sharp lens, but not that contrasty at 1.2.
I appreciate that! I’ve not tried to see if it bleeds less at 1.4 but will definitely try. It’s just such an incredible look at 1.2 I usually just leave it open
@@SNAPAVELI Highly welcome - from my experience with the RF 85, stopping down from 1.2 to 1.4 makes a significant difference in terms of contrast and colour punch. On the other hand, at places with hard theatre or concert lighting, the lower contrast at 1.2 can be beneficial.
