Afrikaans is my first language and i can understand most of these phrases without subtitles. We simplified things and have influences from other languages as well but for the most part Dutch makes up like 90% of Afrikaans. You need to speak what we call "Suiwer Afrikaans" to be able to somewhat communicate with a Dutch person. Klop gedaan meneer!
Awesome video!! I'll be in Belgium in a couple of months, and really wanted to learn some basic words in Dutch, this is so useful and easy to follow along!
Important note about the CNaVT, it is both recognised in Belgium and the Netherlands, so a B1 certificate is valid in both countries and can be used as proof of speaking Dutch at a B1 level is both countries for example. The NT2 is recognised only in the Netherlands (and the Programma II exams are recognised as the B2 Educatief CNaVT exam). Because of this it means that during listening you will hear both Dutch and Flemish accents, so keep that in mind when giving the exam. Because I study ABN Nederlands those Flemish accents made the exams more difficult than it needed to be.
It’s going to take more practice for me to get the “g” sounds correct from whichever part of my mouth there are supposed to come. 😅 Your explanations has been the most helpful thus far and exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you!
I'm English and I think that you must have only ever heard southern people talking. I can honestly say that your pronunciation and tongue are doing exactly the same as mine. 😂 I'm further north.
