Johnny Olson lived in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He rented a condo in Century City, which is only a short drive to Television City and CBS studios where TPIR was taped. Since TPIR only taped 3 days a week back then, Johnny would fly home to Lewsiburg after the Wednesday episodes were taped to spend time with his wife. He would usuallly fly back to Los Angeles on Sunday afternoons. It was during a flight back to Los Angeles on Sunday, October 6, 1985, that Johnny suffered a stroke. He died on October 12., 1985. His wife, Penelope, died on August 17, 2000.

The Monte Carlo was a nice looking car. I remember my boyfriend let me drive his brand new 1974 Monte Carlo to go shopping. He told me "Don't come back if you have an accident."
I wonder how many were actually able to take possession of the prizes they won. I heard a lot of contestants were unable to pay the taxes and were forced to return the prizes as a result.
