I remember watching PYL back in 84-85 when I was a kid and thinking how much he sounded like Johnny and that that guy could do Price is Right if Johnny left. Little did I know that summer.
When auditioning, he did a little horrible, from the beginning, yet, he came back, tried again, and did much better, for the following 17 yrs. A job that lasted longer than his mentor, Johnny Olson. Also, when Rod Roddy auditioned for the announcing job on "The Price is Right," he didn't want to copy Johnny Olson, or to be another Johnny Olson, in line, yet, he managed to do it on his own. May the memories of both Bob Barker and Rod Roddy remain alive! May they both #RIP!
I would think the director told him to and then they forgot to edit it in post (or couldn't in the 80s). Rod had not nailed the timing just yet, and that's okay - it was his first time.
Rod was the announcer on Press Your Luck when he was auditioning for TPIR, for awhile he was doing double duty until PYL was cancelled in the fall of 1986.
@@markyyy94 Assuming it doesn't get skipped... it would be a bummer if after all that, they end up skipping it. But I hope that if they have in the archives that they'll get to it eventually.
