its like a weird D&D table top campaign, between serious Rp'ers, min/maxer, "serious" joke characters, regular joke characters for a one shot, and a couple new players who managed to stumble their way into not dying to random mistakes they werent even aware of for game mechanics.
This Popeye fan since childhood did appreciate the movie but felt they were trying too hard to capture a Popeye which few people were familiar with. Shelley Duvall did a great Olive Oyl, even better than Robin Williams' Popeye.
My wife and I actually watch this movie last week I think it was and yeah I legitimately did not know Kevin Smith was the man behind this film and when I found that out I was pleasantly surprised. Honestly it is kind of a sad movie. Very horrifying. Definitely left an impression. It's too bad it didn't actually have a strong box office
I didn’t like this movie that much. The plot felt very stretched out with bad pacing and very few laughs. There were so many scenes that just felt pointless and meandering. I was very entertained by how silly it was, but the overall film wasn’t a satisfying experience. This was the first Pee-Wee Herman thing I’ve seen(unless you count the crack PSA and the Mr. Ogg TMNT episode), so maybe I should’ve started with the TV series. I might watch more Pee-Wee productions, but I’m hesitant to do so. There are definitely lots of good elements, but I’m more likely to remember random set pieces and lines, rather than the actual film itself.
It's like one of the few films that would have benefited by years of "production Hell." Instead, it's like they grabbed the first draft and just threw money at it.
Weither it was the director or FOX's studio meddling, this movie missed the point of the Fantastic 4 and failed to capture the spirit of the characters.
Good thing I boycotted this remake last year. I'm tired of people bashing and roasting the 1989 Little Mermaid as a bad movie because "Ariel is a badly written and unlikable damsel in distress". The story in the original was great because it was a love story with high stakes and obsticals Ariel endures throughout her journey, making the story instantly memorble. Ariel is my favorite character because unlike princesses (including the first 3 classic Disney Princesses) who are passive and do nothing but smile, look pretty, and wait to be rescued, Ariel broke the damsel in distress trope thanks to how active she was (saving Flounder from a shark, killing Ursula's eels in the climax, and saving Prince Eric). I never expected Ariel to have an active edge (even if it was based on me getting hooked into her from the first Kingdom Hearts video game when she was a badass party member). She's just as interesting as she is lovable, relatable, and adorable, her looks and voice are the icing on the cake, and she paved the way for more badass and active female leads in Disney films from Belle in Beauty and the Beast to Mulan herself. And of course the soundtrack is instantly enjoyable from start to finish. So, there's more to this movie than just looking pretty and sounding pretty. It started an amazing era called the Disney Renesance (1989-1999) and I'm so relieved that The Little Mermaid 1989 got preserved into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress while the 2023 live action remake was a commercial and critical disapointment. I guess you can say that while The Little Mermaid 1989 got preserved into the National Film Registry, The Little Mermaid 2023 ended up in.....DAVEY JONES LOCKER!
I really appreciate the way you deeply broke down this movie. I am asking myself how come I didn't see so much detail as you did. Plus, the fact that you weren't even born when it was in theaters. I seen it at 10 years old and it never left me. Till this day I still say there has never been better casting than in popeye the movie. I think Robin's character acting was the best I seen in my life and I am 54 years old. This was a perfect movie. There is no other movie like it. The soundtrack is godly, and the opening seen with popeye in the sea coming to shore is sooo intense you can't take your eyes off the screen. I absolutely love that scene. They should have gotten Oscar's for their performances. It was until I was an adult that I learned the movie flopped. It took me days to get over that. I couldn't for the life of understand how anyone could not see the beauty and genius in this movie. Like one person said, "it was like finding out Santa wasn't real". This is my 6th favorite movie of all time and I am still waiting to for it to come out on uhd 4k. Rip Robin, love you, Shelly. P.s. Sweet haven looked so real I wanted to live there. It was so gritty but beautiful.
For what it was worth, Ang Lee did a version that was pretty cool. Ang did a version of Banner that few knew about. The Marvel universe originally tackled some aspects of child abuse leading to major anger issues in the comics. It appears Ang was not afraid to tackle these taboo topics. Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly and Sam Eliot were really good, too. I could totally see Sam Eliot coming back as Red Hulk - Thunderbolt Ross in respectful memory of William Hurt. But I think Harrison Ford has been given the role, which can still be really, really good!
you made a brilliant video! poopdeck pappy is actually one of my favorite characters though. but it's my favorite movie since childhood. the casting, the sets, the scenery, the music. the violence was non-threatening and it had a grounded, 'realistic' vibe to it amid its fantastical setting. i read they ran out of money near the end and had to cut out a ton of stuff but i still love it.
I beg to differ as far as the audiences receiveing what it wants. We wait the entire movie for Popeye to kick Bluto's ass and we get one single punch, and them he turns yellow and swims away for good after being punched once.
When I say that I'm saying it in the context of what Altman was going for, not so much what the general audience expected/wanted. Of course, those fighting parts would've been longer in that case. It's a great scene, though, and the theme song musical number at the end is gold.
after reading that you did a hate review I won't even watch it now. You don't get war type movies -- people had nostalgia for WWII -- see all the films about it and this was based on a popular novel
seen it at the theater when I was a kid and it was ok but still was disappointed that it didn't have cartoons probably in my five musicals I like some people love musicals I'm not one of those I guess but overall it's an enjoyable flick and there are some pretty funny parts in it. I can't seem to remember the other four right now
I was bored out of my mind watching this film and I used to love it when I was a kid and thought it was the coolest thing ever. But as an adult I find it boring and forgettable.
One of the best super hero movies ever. Sad you can't go serious if you are not batman. but beyond that. the action sequences are amnazing. has some of the best coreography. Hulk is really savage. and not just a giant angry man like the others.
