Sat there all day waiting for the game watching the build up as a 11 yold. Weird game . I HATED that umbro kit we came out in. To go from the best kit we ever had (hummel) to go and look like a team from the 1900s. And of course my hero Gazza without doubt having a mental breakdown during the game. It was all too much for him what with the move to Lazio and the hype surrounding him. The semi final he was just bubbling right at this stage his head has gone.
13:13 this little scuffle in the middle between Nigel Clough and Paul Steart with Clough going with his studs, that happened right in front of Paul Gascoigne started the whole thing that ended with Gascoigne damaging his knee ligaments. Apparently he thought that if Forest is to play like this against us, so should he against Forest. and few moments later he did the exact same thing against a Forest player by the tough line!
Final years of the north bank at highbury, the stand that made arsenal into the team they were Arsenal will never be arsenal ever again, they threw away highbury, there home stadium Dumb I stopped watching arsenal in 2002, and makes me laugh what a disaster arsenal have been since they left highbury
I like how the commentary team were wondering whether Gazza "should have gotten a yellow, as it was his 'second offence of the game'"....... in 2024 that's a straight red, 100%, comical that it wasn't.
21:43 RIP Joe Kinnear. The comic Mike Osman was hilarious on this in the studio, his Ruud Gullit impression still has me cracking up lol He'd be cancelled by the snowflakes if he did that again today. The 1990s still is the pinnacle decade of Sky Sports coverage especially the early years. Just wholesome entertainment, simple frontman duties from the effortless Richard Keys, no I'm not going to slag him off for something said off air and leaked by some coward on the production crew. We've all said something down the pub in private and not lost our jobs for it. Look at how many presenters have done worse since and still kept their jobs??? It was the very start of wokeness creeping into our society in 2011.
This is absolutely gold dust. What a nostalgic trip. Was reading up on Gary Mabbutt. Never knew he had a small brother who died as a young g boy. Thanks for a great upload
The Forest revisionists are notably quiet on the foul committed by Lee Glover in the wall for Pearces free kick, the goal Lineker scored wrongly disallowed for offside, and the failure to send off the goalkeeper for the professional foul on Lineker for the penalty, which was then saved.
Good to see this, the program length was fantastic, nowadays it’s 90 minutes pre match and a hour after the final whistle, here they did a buildup, match interviews without far too much waffle, if it was for VAR delays I’d have my matches timed on a Sunday to 12:30, 14:30, 16:30 etc
If Milford was bought off he didn't do a very good job of it by allowing Forest's goal to stand despite a blatant foul by Lee Glover on Mabbutt in the wall, the perfectly good goal by Lineker wrongly disallowed for offside, and by not sending the goalkeeper off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity on the penalty, which he then saved...
If just one person in that Tottenham camp (or that grinning buffoon, Roger Milford) had had the sense to try and get a rein on Gascoigne instead of laughing and giving him a fool's pardon for every ludicrous face he pulled etc then Gary Parker might not have ended up with a bootprint on his chest, Gary Charles might not have been damn near scythed in half and Gascoigne himself might not have shattered his knee!
It never dawned on me before but that was a very similar finish from MT4 as the one he took to clinch the title at Anfield a few months later. It's funny how your perception of reality fools you as to the passage of time, in my memory this game doesn't feel to have been nearly as far back in time as it actually is...35 years, crikey!!
It strikes me that Clough was not that old for a manager when he retired just 2y later, but he did look way older, like a really old man. Drinking really ruined him.
