The first season they actually put the score at the top of the screen! Revolutionary. Never the same as joining an old itv broadcast midway through second half, trying to guess the score from commentary....
We can all thank David Hill for that who helped overseas to contribute to the Fox NFC package bid in American Football 30 years ago next month hard to believe.
Mike Osman's impression of Ruud Gullit is the standard of Michael Barrymore's John Barnes impression. I thought it was one of the Sky team doing it, like Peter Brackley did an impression of Jimmy Greaves. Except Brackley's impression was good.
I remember it well , i was supposed to be working in london but got time to skive and go to the game . my mate went to the bog at 0*1 came back and asked if they had equalised . I just looked at him .he Couldnt believe we had let in four in that time . . I just said "this is saints mate " . Best bit was Frannys tackle (assault) on Barnby . Imagine that kind of tackle nowadays ?
It was wasn’t it! Pitch was not great, but so many players on that field not really comfortable on the ball, just very fit and brave. Very little in the way of 1 v 1 skills, apart from one or two of the Tottenham players. It was nice to see virtually no diving though!
Yeah La Liga and Serie A were far better during these years. Even Dutch teams like Ajax and PSV. But EPL improved so much by the mid/late 90s and Bundesliga also improved towards the end of the 90s.
21:43 RIP Joe Kinnear. The comic Mike Osman was hilarious on this in the studio, his Ruud Gullit impression still has me cracking up lol He'd be cancelled by the snowflakes if he did that again today. The 1990s still is the pinnacle decade of Sky Sports coverage especially the early years. Just wholesome entertainment, simple frontman duties from the effortless Richard Keys, no I'm not going to slag him off for something said off air and leaked by some coward on the production crew. We've all said something down the pub in private and not lost our jobs for it. Look at how many presenters have done worse since and still kept their jobs??? It was the very start of wokeness creeping into our society in 2011.
Is Andy Gray on drugs? He thinks the Spurs second goal was offside, just freeze it at 1:32:27. When Sheringham strikes the ball, how is Barmby ahead of the play? What is he looking at?
