We sold our acreage in Hayden and rebought a home near Honey Suckle because of so much maintenance. But North Idaho is so safe and good to raise children. I’d say the weather is like Norway. Mostly cloudy and gloomy but the trade off is worth it for the culture and close community. We have a different type of pride living here in the North 🏞️❤️
I'm almost 60 and my friends are few , my families dying off. So , I've thought about moving back to Wyoming ? But a friend at work today , who's a pastor told me to check out Lewiston, he said if he moved back , that's where it would be. So I'm gonna have to take a trip up there pretty soon and just check it out. I'm into all the outdoor things , so that helps quite a bit. 🇺🇸😁👍

Oregonian here ready to relocate somewhere more family friendly, but NOT looking for that Texas weather! I don't think my cadaver colored skin could handle that but long winters? Oh boy. Ooohh boy. I love intense winters, and so does my wolfdog 😂😂

No thanks. Everyone and their grandma is moving to Idaho and buying property right now. The prices are insane there. Far better places out there to buy land.

Ok Trent, here we go. I moved to Sandpoint in 1995. On my way to Alaska but it didnt happen. At that time lots of Californians moving there. Schweitzer was booming. Lots of seasonal workers there for the season. I left Sandpoint in 2006. As a electrician at the time , I chose not to build homes for rich Californians and Canadians. I was involved with several homes from actors and inventors. The rich ruined the area. Yokes had competition with Walmart. It was sad. By the way, I had to cut 9 to 11 cords of wood every year. To heat my house. I believe $10 got me 3 cords on forest service. How much wood have you cut ?

Also, if you're old or not capable of maintenance, getting help can be difficult. Handymen, and any of the construction maintenance help can be scheduled months or even years out. There aren't enough workers to help everyone, due to the fast, huge growth 😢 You sometimes have to pay premium prices, plus travel for emergencies, because they are coming from Spokane to the rural areas around Sandpoint.
My home, my town has been destroyed and made into a city. 35,000 people that we don’t want, came here and now we have traffic all the time, thousands of apartments and hundreds of condos. We aren’t getting good people either… You moved here after 2020 then you are who I’m talking about. 🖕🏼
I will be closing on ten acres between Samuel's and Elmira in two weeks and will be breaking ground in 2-3 years on that property. I love Sandpoint and cant wait to leave New England to be living there. It will be nice to live amongst conservatives for a change and not worry about carry my pistol exposed
I'm about to purchase ten acres just north of Sandpoint and I can't wait to leave the blue state I'm in now (CT) which taxes you to death and the crime is terrible. I can assure you the winters in New England are far worse, we have Nor'easters which cripple the state and kill people, hurricanes, temps down to -15 or more, ice storms and crazy temp swings. I also carry and they look at you sideways out here if you do and they just changed the law to conceal carry only which sucks in the summer. (yes, I'm very conservative)
Someone already mentioned dripping the faucets but also leave doors open under cabinets that have waterlines behind them and if you know it will get really cold a space heater in front of the cabinet near waterlines. Someone also mentioned heat tape. I had that installed this year to prevent the freezing we had this last winter. Battery Tender makes great trickle chargers for batteries to keep them up in very cold weather. Windshield washer fluid that does not freeze is also a must. When it comes to snow/ice on the roof there are heat cables that will melt the ice/snow. I am looking for someone that does that type of install before this winter so if you know of reputable installer let me know! Great advice from you and from many of the commenters...Thanks!
By the time any of you get to north Idaho what attracted you to the area will be gone!!!!!! Already here insane traffic sky rocketing house market,over crowded lakes,rivers ,campgrounds, lib minded thinking and realators just selling more and more north idaho away. It used to be a great place to raise kids, and live in peace but those days are sadly long gone and all for the greed of more money!
Hey Trent, great video man! I've lived out here in the Spokane Valley the greater of the last four decades and seen the growth in this area and can relate to many points you mentioned. Growing up the attention was towards big cities like Seattle or Portland and I never gave a place like Boise a single thought. That changed in June 2021 when I asked my wife to pick somewhere that we've never been to for her birthday. We drove down to Boise and I've been quite fascinated with this place ever since and we make an annual trip there every June to a place called Hidden Springs which is just slightly north of Eagle/Garden City. We were just down there a few weeks ago and it is so refreshing to see a vibrant city without the things we see here in Spokane now. We always find ourselves getting a rental place in The North End which everything is so convenient within walking distance (and I am a car guy). There are many great breweries here, especially one in Garden city called Barbarian. I found that Eastern Meridian reminded me a lot like of East Sprague. Lastly, getting on a EBIKE in the Greenbelt is freaking amazing and a lot of fun!

I'm black, and that's completely new information to me. You delivered it very well! For a very long time, Idaho has been a do not go or pass through state! A kinda sundown "state!" Go around or fly over, never drive through! But you've enlightened me. I have some friends (white) who've visited and I've heard it's beautiful but cold. Maybe I'll venture through the state sometime in the future, but I'll definitely need to do more recon! Thanks!!😂

Another thing with Sandpoint... We ALL know you're not a local. You're driving aggressively, you're on your phone while driving, you're treating locals like they're only here to serve you... Understand that we don't like that, and when you behave that way, we don't like YOU. GO HOME, AND TAKE YOUR ATTITUDE WITH YOU.
I moved to Idaho from a blue state, was born and raised in that blue state. Now living Hope Idaho, I finally feel as if I belong! I was a square peg in a round hole my whole life. Love being in the woods where we live. It’s not for every one. I’ll tell ya. Spokane gives me the hebejebies….. I love that I can carry concealed or open. Our society is both polite and safe.
If I buy 20 acres in N.Idaho I do not want municipal power, water, or gas. That is the whole point of living in Idaho and off-the-grid. But your comment on septic and well water are very good points. Also Internet is not an issue any more... One word... StarLink.
