This was a GenX movie. It spoke to GenX insecurities of the time. There was a sense of loss of cultural inheritance as we were coming of age - a sense of being cheated. The retard was given a virtue-signaling seat at the table - while we were seen as damaged goods to be passed over and forgotten. There was a steely-eyed, no nonsense attitude reflected in Peyton. A tip of the hat to her for taking care of business on the playground and seeing things as they really are - it was a generational strength that spoke to us. Many GenX did self destruct very young from a lack of supervision and guidance - truly a lost generation. The ones who made it through tended to make great parents and wise adults. The setting of the movie, Seattle, was made very trendy by GenX hipsters as well. A decent, well crafted thriller carried by the fabulous Rebecca DeMornay - even if the ending was a little corny for my taste.

I thought this movie was very good! In the first few minutes I thought it would be a typical 'cop vs. bad guy' movie, but things really spiraled out of control for the two cops, and the storyline became more complicated and unpredictable.
One of her worst decisions was taking the ring off and flushing it down the toilet. There was no reason to do that. Also, her mom totally dimed her out as did the YWCA
Honestly it’s really a great movie idk why it gets so much hate. I think it accurately describes abusive relationships. I saw a lot of comments on social media saying they hated it cuz “why did Julia roberts character even marry him to begin saying that “ she knew better”( I disagree) I think those comments fail to realize how accurate that is to real life abusive relationships. The fact abusers put on a fake mask & only their true self & abuse happens once it’s too late & their victims are trapped. I think in that regard it was a traumatic movie but it also gave awareness to abuse & how victims aren’t protected at all. (Not saying the movie was realistic) but I do think it was a good portrayal of abusers & how abusers almost act like a prey Vs predator situation. And the level of fear that victims feel, The entire audience feels what her character felt & that was powerful.
Great cast. Yeah Mookie throwing the garbage can through the window I thought saved the lives of the 3 Italian/pizza guys. The crowd channeled their anger destroying the pizza shop versus attacking the men,.
thank you my brother, as I always say, I'll be back soon. Have so much going on, in the process of getting a new Mac specifically for content; burned the hard drive somehow on my 2015
Johnny Kissing Amber's butt and constantly disrespecting Charlotte stunk of colorism (not unlike Martin). Tom being awkward and disqualifying himself from Amber by being an Uncle Tom Jeek was a little too convenient for my liking.
Hey Antonio. I think I'm at the point of life I could admit my um love and affection for Mrs. Ciccone made this movie a lot more to me than what it was. Still it had a real good cast though. Yeah as I get older and grumpier and been through life more watching this movie it's kind of like: Hhmm Madonna/Rebecca loving you to your literal death when you already are barely hanging in. Is that supposed to be a bad fate then? lol
Hey Dan, I too love certain actors and they carry terrible films I end up liking. Thanks as always for your continued support! Sorry for the delay in my response here, in the process of getting some new tech and I plan to start making videos again soon of course! Working so much has robbed me of my ambition
Thank you! I love your review and you nailed it and made me straight up laugh out loud a few times. 👏👏 what a challenging story line for the mainstream re: views on aging women as sex interests. ESPECIALLY to younger men. GASP! The naked misogyny of some of the reviews (back in 2013 when this came out) is almost shocking when reading it now in 2024. Good for Naomi Watts and Robin Wright for their courage back then AND for remaining more or less natural and not disguising their aging the way you see with so many A list stars past 40. They both IMO took a big risk and delivered a real vulnerability on screen. I applaud the entire production for taking this risk and giving it the intention it deserved. The actor who played Tom was by far the weakest link but even that withstanding I was left haunted and moved by this film. Thank you for your honest and careful review. You also treated this film (and the story) with respect and kindness which for real gave me hope after reading soooo many puerile and misogynistic reviews from major media outlets. Some were outright mean. Your mama raised you right! ;) but seriously, thank you. You earned a new subscriber.
Wow thank you so so much, I really appreciate your comment! I'll be back with more reviews soon. I applaud the entire production also, they had to have known the cultural aspect of such a film would be pretty impactful. Thanks again for watching.
FOR ME, it was Demi. But, I can see how they could both be at fault here. Truthfully, I think this movie is so accurate as to the outcome of the situation. I can't see it happening any other way even if two folks who had never seen this movie and had been offered an "indecent proposal." Thanks for watching!
I own this movie on dvd. Just bought it because of the two actresses, not knowing what's the story. Very pleasantly surprised. I wonder how do we have so much trafficking and crime in general when so many people are disgusted with this really innocent topic. Then who is doing these heinous crimes and who is supporting them? I just finished watching a doc about a woman that was molested since 5 by her stepfathers, with her mother's consent AND her father's knowing. I mean, this is a taboo BUT nobody here is related to each other. There's just age difference and they knew each other for years. People are just judgemental trash. I myself was in situations which are considered taboo but I never planned for it. Btw. Roz's father had just moved to Sydney, was not on a business trip. And Ian didn't meet the girl, he was rejected by Roz who wanted him to be free to find his own peer.
