I bought a pair of alpair 10 . After lots of experimenting with enclosures, my sealed , almost fully stuffed boxes sound absolutely marvelous.... specially for jazz and classical..❤❤❤❤ Very good speakers if time is given to bring out it's optimum performance..

Some manufactuerers need to make 3000 ohm coils so we can use 300b in otl mode. This would mean incredible detail and responce. It would be the ultimate modification. And its cheap and easy to do relative to any other modifications

cost per unit. making 1000 will be cheaper then 4x250 per driver. but i agree black would be best, but then you need to anodize it rather then raw alu. sooo cost.

Why does Mark talk as if he invented the spider less driver? It’s been done multiple times before. One chap in the Netherlands got rid of not just the spider but also the primary suspension, the rubber surround.

I'm dieing to experiment with markaudio drivers. I think they are the future and they look beautiful. I'm going to replace my tweeter in a design I built already. But I have some ideas to get a lot of bass out of the chr 90 s especially.. I am really excited to try them. I like the minimalist idea and I just the passion that they have. It's infectious.

The Markaudio speakers are really easy to listen to all day without them getting annoying. Jazz and female voices are freaking amazing sounding on the chr-70. Ive put them in the fenlon design cabinets and they play down to 30hz. Not loud but they reach that low in room.

Not saying he is wrong, but I have never heard of the cone requiring to be flexible "you will get no sound out of it"....dont get that, its just pushing sound waves, why does it need to be flexible.

Stefan, Very Informative. Thanks! Quick question: You use stuffing down the whole horn line. I am building a small TQWT tower speaker and their build plans only use polyfill down one chamber and is ported out the front. I know this design is not exactly a horn but would you use stuffing down the entire TL in a TQWT tower?

thank you so much. i have been struggling getting into this hobby, because i am someone who is always looking for patterns and rules of thumb. and i find most of the answers to me question are very much a paradox of you need to run the numbers and tune to your taste. that is fine but what are some of the practical features of these calculations. the part on room gain i think is a very interesting point. i see many DIY channels testing the box in the workshop or garage but if room gain is such a strong influence then box sizes Vb and Fb need to be turned along with the room and position. and depending on the room a different tuning of the extended bass shelf would be a major influence on the flatness of the finished speaker. thanks for this. please do more. are there any more lectures from him online anywhere? and books what not. i will have to admit when i first started listening i thought he was just blah blah no solid answers, but in the end he gave really solid answers for what happens in the real world.

complete rookie here, but the Extended Bass Shelf is an interesting point, because i have tried to make a pair with flat to roll off speakers QB3 i guess, and when i wired them up because of room gain they have a hump from F3 to about 100 or so hz and that is where the EBS dips below flat and if i understand what you are saying is if i tuned the boxes a bit lower in a bigger box that dip would be filled by the room gain and would get a lower flatter response. neat. i think what DIY box builders who want to avoid DSP stuff would make adjustable boxes, once with a movable rear panel to increase or decrease the box volume and a port that can be lengthen or shortened so people can set them up in their room.

marc audio, the only manufacture that shares build plans. finally someone who know how their own product works. i know it is personal preference. but so is a cooking recipe and yet they manage to give the details to get you close. and marc audio shows you some examples of others flavors that will fit the driver. from the basic bass reflex box or to a loaded TL. look forward to trying them out.

Great cabinets and I like the idea about the cavity for the internal elements, but glueing the wood without the clamps... these elements needs to be tighten strongly when glued with a wood glue, otherwise the joints are going to be weak. It's possible to glue like that only with epoxy.

I have been wondering if Mark were to implement this design with a neodymium magnet with a much higher magnetic flux density than a ferrite magnet, with the stronger magnetic field, the cone size/weight could be increased without a loss of impulse response. Could be a superb large emitter for desktop open baffle applications.
@rhalfik
@rhalfik Год назад
Just slap a bigger ferrite on it. What's the point in neodymium? The only flux density that matters is in the gap.

He states that male vocal range is 1700-2000hz. But that is not true! Is it? It should be around 80-160hz or something around that range. Then he makes that higher pitch sound and states it was 4000hz. The tuning fork which is used by choir directors for example, gives the pitch A at 440hz which is where female vocal is at. That is very high note to be reached by a male singer, and even then it is possible with a high falsetto.

So you make a speaker that is not true to the artists intentions. Better make the speaker flat, then if you want to alter the sound use DSP. Or use Dirac. Things have moved on.

I think he explained it well, this driver is designed to operate over a wide frequency spectrum first and foremost. I would call that musical. It also sounds user friendly. Do you play music to pick apart the flaws in your equipment? I don't. I play music to listen to it. If it's not completely flat, I'm not completely devastated like some folks seem to be. Just my 0.02. happy listening 🎧
