I've been building speakers for years and design them to be single-point-source full range with impressive enclosures that are floor standing and by cutting away most of the spider with care and symmetry and removed dust caps and have achieved stunning results. The spider suppresses coil motion in two ways. Firstly the springy type structure of the spider itself resists the ability the coil to follow the signal accurately although this suspension effect does soften with use. The secondary problem is that with a dust cap and an airtight spider creates an air compression anomaly further by default between the pathway from the back of the dust cap and the back of the spider causes a restriction to the coil. By using a 6.5" driver (I've tried many) and using deflector units and a specially designed duel transmission cabinet calculated to roll off at around 30Hz or bellow dependant of driver and amplifier characteristics with a quarter-wave14ft uniform distance baffle from the driver edge. The result is a highly compliant cone with no deep bass cancellation and clear transients combined with an easy low-resistive load on the amplifier. In my book of thoughts, the driver should never be directly coupled to a loudspeaker housing but suspended with a good airtight seal.

Your design is deeply flawed. Just kidding I have no idea what all that means.

Good God...I was hesitant based on the volume of info and knowing you have but here we go: I just built (well braced) cabinets for a pair of CHR-90s...MDF, blah blah...very bright but the cabinets are too large...like 2.5 liters too large .I was just given a pair of Advent Graduates and Omega 300s...I have some beautiful blonde poplar wood left over. I've saved the drivers for my up and coming build. 8" woofer and a beautiful 2" tweeter from the Omegas. Any advice? My question is sort of ambiguous but I seek advice from any source. Thanks.

The new driver should be called LMNS....for Look Ma! No Spider!

I have been wondering if Mark were to implement this design with a neodymium magnet with a much higher magnetic flux density than a ferrite magnet, with the stronger magnetic field, the cone size/weight could be increased without a loss of impulse response. Could be a superb large emitter for desktop open baffle applications.

Just slap a bigger ferrite on it. What's the point in neodymium? The only flux density that matters is in the gap.

Some manufactuerers need to make 3000 ohm coils so we can use 300b in otl mode. This would mean incredible detail and responce. It would be the ultimate modification. And its cheap and easy to do relative to any other modifications

Very intrigued by these and if the interview is actually in Mark`s room with those fine titles on the the wall they should be pretty capable.

Hi Mark, I'm afraid the room is not a room, it's a set in my unit. The tunes, the deck, the guitar and props are all mine, not Mark's :) Sorry to burst a bubble!! I do make very pretty capable speakers with Mark's drivers though ;)

@@Stefanwhatcott_KJFaudio hey man nice video and good quality...do you know of anything that prevents dust from entering the gap?

Any recommended enclosure design for this? A folded Voight, perhaps?

I wonder what is done to prevent dust from entering the voice coil gap?

Nothing is implemented in the actual driver, don't forget these are installed inside a speaker that is hopefully free of dust. You'd probably not want to use them mounted in a ceiling void 😀 There have been no reports of problems so far and we've sold a lot of them now. The Alpair 5 has been spiderless for years and no problem with those either.

the CHN 70M was promised a long time ago but it hasn't entered the market yet, is it because of Covid-19?

It’s because of Covid 20.
