Started to put a few videos together of me riding the bike which I tend to do once or twice a week all year round usually in the North West of England. Local rides tend to be Lake District, Peak District, Hebden Bridge, Wharncliffe and anywhere within 100 mile radius of Wigan sometimes on my own or with various riding buddies. Started riding mountain bikes over 20 years ago with a fully rigid bike and currently the owner of a Nukeproof Mega 290 and Bird Zero 275. Reckon I have ridden most trails in the area worth riding but always exploring looking for new stuff. If you want to follow my adventures on the bike then please subscribe to the channel.
Just gonna put it out there us lads spend hours and hours building qnd maintaining the tracks at sabden. We build tracks that are difficult and hard to ride so we can enjoy them. If u cant ride a track dont ride it rather than riding b lines that end up destroying tracks. Hard to watch
Total respect for you guys building some absolutely mint trails and would say you need to be lets say better than the average rider to get down these runs without getting off the bike. From your comments I thought we had been riding completely off piste for most of the video so had to watch it back and it looks like one guy cut the corner on one trail which just happened to be the guy who rode it a few minutes earlier. I can't remember but there must have been a bike track there to follow. Rather than having a rant at a video of people enjoying themselves and not realising they are upsetting others, why not just put some logs/tree branches or whatever is around across to stop people going that way because human nature would be if you can't ride something is there a chicken line, Strava lines have been around for years for those interested in bragging rights. Next time we are that way I'll mention to the guys not to cut any corners etc and on that one in particular look to block the B line. Apologies if this unintentionally pi$$ed you off with the time and dedication you guys have put in and rightly protecting your hard work 👍🏼
@@matth3w.t not being critical but if you put enough sh!t in the way, people will probably not be inclined and push round because its too much trouble to move unless they are regulars which we are not, probably ride there couple of times a year and don't really know the lines but have to say you guys have done a great job in such a small area
Looks like you did the beginning of the Edale Loop then headed across the slabs over Brown Knoll towards Jacob's Ladder, then went along to the Woolpacks and down Grindslow Knoll. Then on to Win Hill I think but I've never been up that way, I'll have to give it a go once I know where the trails are...
Thanks, I do but they have done a lot of tree felling since so some of the trails do not exist anymore although some have been reinstated but I haven't been back. If I were you I'd be asking someone who has ridden it recently or I could send the GPK file and tell you were to go/avoid/check
Removed the rotor and pads today and gave both a good blast with brake cleaner. Caliper is centred, I've changed pads and cleaned rotor previously but not as vigurous as today. If it does it again I'll have to get a new rotor, think I have a spare used one in garage so can try that before forking out more dosh, cheers
@@mtbnorthwestengland sanding the rotor and pads might also help if you change to new pads without cleaning the rotor good they make a racket cause of the old brake pad material
You just need to send a request to follow and Strava will let me know. I’ve not known Strava dictate before who follows who it is usually down to the individual to decide if you’re account is set to private
@tastytechaddictsmtb Yeah it was pretty crap conditions but the story of our summer so far I'm afraid. Falling off that wall (the wall where the big spaghetti roots are?) will probably get you a visit to A&E
@@mtbnorthwestengland I dunno my summer (last week) in the alps was mint 🤣 , part 1 of the video is up now. Yer that wall drop we nearly went gunning into , then realised it was like dropping off a shed roof 🤣🤷😆
@@mtbnorthwestengland did all the tech 6:30 onwards, before that it’s messing around with the bike which is setup for jumping so like riding a shopping trolley. Once it was setup ok it was slaying the tech
Cheers pal glad it had some entertainment value, I thought the footage was decidedly average. I was a bit pissed off with the rain at the time it has to be said 🤘
@@mtbnorthwestengland have you thought about getting the Mod lens for your go pro? It gets everything in the footage the Bike whatever is in front of you it’s brilliant.
@@twowheels4689 As far as I know it is only compatible with GP12 and I'm a dinosaur still having an 11. It hasn't really inspired me to buy a new GP at the moment but maybe when I need to fork out another £400 I'll give it a whirl
Another fantastic video as always Martin, In fact I enjoyed it so much that I followed your route yesterday! Was a great ride but Edenfield woods was proper sketchy in parts!!!
Cheers Simon, apologies for the delay in responding, not been here for a while. Hopefully you didn't make the same mistake as us and go around the hill at Edenfield when we could have nipped over the top and dropped straight in but you live and learn. We are going to spend a bit more time there sometime soon probably on a Wed night
Just buy an SDG Duster. I'm pushing 17.5 stone and 6'6" and mine takes a pounding, but keeps on working as it should. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. My folks used to live in Hebden Bridge many years ago and I spent my 20's and 30's riding those trails, long before the likes of modern geometry, e-mtb's, strava and the like.
Fully rigid bike would be interesting round there 😂. Jury is out on SDG saddles, previously used Bel Air 2.0 brilliant, bent a rail but no squeaks. They went to 3.0 and bought a couple for both my bikes with exactly the same problem on creaks and squeaks caused by loose rails. It is what I had on my Mega before the super squeaky Ergon shit. Might try a Duster, they don't look too expensive, cheers 👍🏼
Short but, sweet. Mad moment on that downward righthand corner after the controlled dismount. Was a tad suprised at how you simply rolled into it and rode it through. Nicely done.
Good video of some of my local stuff, just a little heads up..if you go slightly lower from the roots section on 1st part of buckden woods it’s a better line through a less rooty line and then take a sharp left at fallen tree into steep fun chute to the stream and pedal up the road. ( you may well know this)👌
@@peterhaworth6859 Cheers I did know it, used to be a gap jump across the stream until it got removed. Charlie, the guy in front occasionally rides the roots so I was after some click bait 😂
Where do you usually park? If you want to do both stoodley pike and the stuff in hedbden bridge? You did stoodley pike twice? Assuming the push up isnt too bad?
Usually park in the valley bottom usually near Stubbins Wharf. The climb to the pike is all pedallable even for me along the canal and then through Callis Wood. There may be a bit of a push when you get near the pike depending on your climbing stamina. Start on a climb, end on a descent is my motto 🤘
Great video pal, enjoyed that. We went to Wharncliffe for the first time on Saturday and i did exactly the same thing as you at 22:20 except i fell off too. We didnt find many trails, i didnt realise they are far from all available on Trailforks, so I found your video whilst researching better for our next trip.
Thanks for your comment, I think I've crashed on every trail at Wharny over the years in some way shape or form . Trails are relatively easy to find with 3 main areas. Stick to the top fireroads and you've pretty much cracked it and once you find the Deepcar stuff, there's half a dozen trails from 1 start point
That was proper, you probably heard me saying I'll not be rushing back. I like to give things a try because one persons ideal trail is another's nemesis. I like riding 4 passes and remember seeing a FB post not long ago somebody saying it was 16 miles of horrendous pushing and carrying, never to be repeated 🤷♂️
@@mtbnorthwestengland Out in the middle of winter with the Uk's mud, wet stone and chuffing great rocks. I've watched you and your mates out in some proper grizzly conditions. Even this latest one, 4000+ feet over 11 miles? Hardcore. Though at least the weather was nice!
Its not too bad really, it's just the getting up there with the bike. Wouldn't surprise me if an Ebike could ride 70-80% up that descent although it may drain the battery a bit 🤔
Done that trail alongside the river a few times but quickly got tired of it because multiple sections of it are not rideable, it gets boggy and hard to see when the ferns are out. If there is a dry spell I might try it again
Did that ride a few weeks beforw you did and the ferns were nowhere near as high. Takes me ages to edit and upload vids though 😀. loved your vid and good to see the sun for a change 😎 🌞🌞
Cheers pal, I'm getting quite proficient at editing without doing anything too complicated. I think if your raw footage is good then stitching it together is fairly straight forward. I started doing this editing malarky 3-4 years ago and it took me forever so much so I've got about 50 rides I never got round to editing but I've kind of moved on since then so have resided in the archive and 2 rides a week being filmed at the moment is more than enough editing to keep me out of mischief
Done those many times the river run is getting a bit narrow in places might need digging out and another few weeks and those ferns will obscure every rock making it even more fun.
@@mtbnorthwestengland only in one section, we crossed over to try and get round the unrideable corner but it was only partially successful, to be honest we wondering about using crow bars to do a few tweaks but we only ride it once or twice a year, never done the river bed any further always seems to have a flow on it. There is a cave on the left at one bit that goes in a short way if you ever get bored 🥱😂
U ever considered getting komoot and posting a link for ye rides. Bit cheeky IK but wld be great to follow and komoot gives best gps voice and map guidance
All my rides are on Komoot but I tend to keep them private unless somebody asks for a gpx. If they are quite cheeky which most are I move them back to private once they have downloaded the file. I presume once you have the gpx you can load it as your route and download it to your phone/nav device?
A few weeks back it was virtually dry,Now after a spell of crap weather it’s slick everywhere again.beautiful having all the gates opened for you down to paved for your granny, shame that last one wasn’t opened tho😅
Started off quite dry and not too bad conditions and then the rain just made it super slick and muddy and yeah the gatekeepers were very welcomed. After that first descent it all went a bit pear shaped, heavy burst of rain and the rest is history 😆. You could see it was drying out on Alpine at the end 👌
@@mtbnorthwestengland I was on lost lad, cutgate same day dodged most of the rain but got headwind in the face coming back from langset.Definetly wet out there ATM. Anyway heading back out there again this week for another dose👍
@@GDCridesMTB you did well to avoid the rain but it was patchy. Alpine had a pretty strong mild wind going on, great for trail drying. Great trail cut gate, did it in Feb and it held up very well now they have flagged over the infinite bog of doom👌
All we can do is keep our fingers and everything else crossed but wet trails with forecast of rain and wind is proper demotivational as you probably know. We were gonna go the lakes but that had a far worse forecast although you can pick a route with rocky trails and hope for the best 🙏
It'a a great little place for a few hours of fun. If you like it steep unless your a very good rider, would suggest leaving it until it dries out a bit and don't do the first steep one we did , proper tyre clogger 😆
Sabden is such a difficult place, it gets even worse when its all wet and slippy after bad weather. I don’t go very often but only when its dry. I think the trails are a bit like Reddisher woods at Holcombe, and Fairy Dust at Hebden Bridge
Cheers pal, I agree this is proper riding on the edge of what is possible for me and that's in the dry 🤣 . Fairy dust is a great trail but I can never get the top bit from the drop in 🤷♂️
I call it Savage Sabden 👊 Its a destroyer. And we did that exact same run down Pendle Hill, what a run that is, my footage won't be edited for at least a couple of weeks and it was great to see your run. 👍😎
Hell of a place for progression, hardtail probably not the best tool for the job but keeps it interesting 🤣. The broken wall descent is pretty epic with lots of blind spots at speed to catch you out #eyesonstalks 👌
Couple of videos on my channel, prison band has tech levels to keep anybody occupied. If your not such a good technical rider you are not likely to enjoy it and likely almost all a push down which I detest. Choose a clear day for it, the views across the fells are outstanding. If you have the legs go up onto Wetherlam and do the descent down to hole rake brilliant flowing descent with some nice tech here and there with cracking views over Coniston 👌
