Today we are going to learn how to play "Try me" by James Brown on the guitar. When people think of James Brown the images of a sweaty guy with big hair laying down the funk comes to mind, and rightfully so, he was the king of that music and his drum breaks helped to create an entire new genre of music called hip-hop. His very first number 1 every though was a ballad called "Try Me" that has an 8 measure loop for a verse and a four letter loop for the chorus revolving around the classic 12/8 rolling groove. I would consider this to be the easiest song in James Brown's catalog of number 1 hits for the simplicity of the chords and the repitivness, it is a very pitch to sing along with though, I can't hit the high E. If I were to sing this song I would put a capo on the 3rd fret and sing it Eb 9 tones lower than James. Don't worry though I will also teach you how to play the melody so you can sing it better than I can!
