Relax in your favorite chair and unwind with a nice pipeful as we take a step back in time to yesteryear and the golden age of pipe smoking for some vintage nostalgia and simpler times.
Thank you! I definitely have enjoyed it. It’s one of my favorite blends of all time. I plan on making many more videos on Velvet in the future. Swell smokes to you!
I do believe it tastes very different from the current production. Same with all the other blends that I’ve had that are still being made today like Half and Half, Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh, Edward G Robinson, Etc.
@@pipe_appeal that's kinda cool and too bad at the same time haha. Gives an even better reason to try old stuff like this. Thanks for your replies and look forward to more awesome videos!
These were very moist as the seals on the tins were intact during aging. I transferred all of them into a large mason jar and have been enjoying and savoring every single bowl. Night and day difference from current production with the formula change among other things. Why on earth they changed it is beyond me. These are about as perfect as perfect can be. Fantastic smoke! Thanks for watching!
@@pipe_appeal Thank you. I really enjoy watching them. The small and better side of RU-vid that calms my restless mind a bit. And it upgrades even the worst pipe-filling in front of the PC 😛
@@Prismit-m7v I’m so happy that you enjoy my videos. I get a lot of joy making them and giving folks a little bit of the thrill and nostalgia of yesteryear. Many more videos to come to stay tuned. All the best to you!
I assume you know it... but have you ever smoked Imperial's “Holy Grail” or what many would call it? The original Three Nuns? The one that only consisted of Virginia and Perique? I don't know how long it was around. But in the 1920s Three Nuns was only made of these components. So basically a completely different tobacco.
@@Prismit-m7v I have a video of 1970s pre Orlik made in Scotland Three Nuns which is the original Virginia Perique recipe. See here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cDvXC6-hVGk.htmlfeature=shared It is very tasty stuff! 2003 was the last year that Three Nuns had perique prior to selling to Orlik which replaced it with the cheaper priced Kentucky leaf. The new Orlik version 2004 onward has made in Denmark on the tin. Not sure what blog you are referring to but I don’t believe it’s accurate.
@@pipe_appeal No, this is the later well known Virginia Kentucky Mixture. I'm talking about the pre-Orlik Three Nuns, only consisting of VA and Perique. I read that on a german blog.
Just love the old tobacco boxes, funny how a lot of them were for pipes and cigarettes. (That Burly tobacco and Virginia) But side note, I know how to use that phone and that radio. Great vid and thanks again for the HISTORY!!!!!!!!
Another beautiful video! Last year I rehydrated a package of WW1 French army tobacco and smoked it with friends. It had a bit of a perfume smell to it but overall was quite nice.
I would definintely fill out that warranty certificate, of course with period correct fountain pen filled with period correct ink. Then mail with the correct year postage stamp…
@@pipe_appeal I gotta get one of those. I tried a raw hydrostone and it has worked but not as much as I thought but I'm giving it some more days. I do like dry tobacco but I prefer to control from having too much moisture than too little.
Yes!!!! One of my favorite Tobacco's! Mixed with Carter Hall or Prince Albert it's my main smoke. Amazing find. I love the old pouches. How different is the old to the new taste wise? One day I hope to get a sealed packet to keep for my collection. Seen them on ebay but missed out. Thanks!
Pall Mall,my dads cigarette, and then mine ,outstanding and they are mild,Wherever particular people congregate!I rember opening a C Ration,in Viet Nam,a small pack of Cavaliers,my aunt smoked these in the early 1950s!
I’ve really come to enjoy the vignettes. Very nicely done. I’m always impressed with the tobacco and in this case what looks like a jet age pipe. Thanks for the insight into the past.
Another excellent effort, PA! I love how much the jet on the packaging looks like a XF-92A which was also developed in the late 40's / early 50's. Talk about period correct! And that Bryson flyer is a thing of beauty! Thanks again for sharing these wonderful treasures of tobacciana!!
Thank you so much for sharing this great piece of history with us. I'm also a big fan of WWII history and this time period. My hat's off to your grandfather. The movie, music, and everything at the end really brought the experience to life. Well done. Thanks for another great video!
Fantastic find! Loved the tobacco, pipe, and music. I'm a big fan of Bing and crooner music in general. Thanks for a wonderful trip back to the 1940s. One of my favorite decades in American history.
och ochone, boy-o! ye've touched me heart ye have. sure and the tobacco's old as Methusulum and three of the four Peterson pipes belonged to Cu Chullain himself, but that song just wrings the tears from a glass eye. Tis all lovely but the song is the crown of it.
Absolutely love the tobacco, pipe, and music. All fit the video perfectly. Thanks for a great trip back to the 1950s. Arguably the last great decade in American history. Thankfully the 80s helped the sting of America's best years behind us. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Prince Albert has to be the healthiest pipe tobacco ever blended. Mike Mansfield, a giant of the U.S. Senate, seemed to be smoking a pipe in every picture I ever saw of him, always filled with Prince Albert. He lived in good health for 98 years!
