Whats up, Im a High rise/Skyscraper and Architecture enthusiast from Christchurch New Zealand.
I noticed there were not many statistic videos for High rises paticulary in New Zealand so I thought I would make some .
I am a Senior member on Emporis and have added hundreds of building throughout New Zealand and the world and have nearly completly completed data for all High rises in New Zealand so I could make the most accurate and best videos using that data as possible :).
I am open to suggestions for any citys throughout the world you would like to see a Top 5 tallest buildings for or any other High rise based videos you would like me to make, just email me or comment on one of the videos and I will get it made for you.
Birmingham has way nicer historic buildings than Manchester but Manchester wins with modern skyscrapers. But both cities lag way behind London as London skyscrapers are in a different league altogether.
Nice one - I was thinking of doing something similar in Lower Hutt - a good selection of low rise buildings there. Not sure about the specs or details though.

@@ProjectFrugal Awesome, it’s a cool high rise the Rutherford hotel, great views out of it, I stayed on the 8th floor myself once. Yeah definitely Wellington has an extraordinary skyline and high rise cbd for any city its size. Cheers
Cheers thanks heaps! It was a super interesting video to make as I also learnt heaps about cities I had hardly heard of and got to see what their central areas were like.
Correct however so nor does any major building data supplier count below ground floors when counting the height of skyscrapers. They aren’t above ground and part of the height therefor not counted in the number of overall floors stated. I would state above ground floors on the video but just isn’t enough space.
By the way Lakhta Center is located in Russia In the city of St. Petersburg. Construction will also begin there in mid-2025 Another skyscraper. Which will be 703 meters Which is a reference to the year of the city's creation. It will be the 2nd highest in the world after the Burj Khalifa And 1st in height without a spire.
I just used whatever photos I thought would best showcase the skyline. Yes they may be missing a few buildings but show more complete views than others in my opinion. I’m not sure what buildings your talking about, there aren’t any 150+ buildings in Birmingham, the tallest are around the 130 mark.
@@thecentralbusinessdistrict231There's a lot better pictures of the Birmingham skyline than the one you chose. The one you highlighted didn't look very impressive at all.
I always knew Asia and North America would be number one and two, and yeah just due to the sheer population and size of the cities Asia just destroys in the Skyscraper game, even more so if you drop it down to 100m+ skyscrapers. What I didn't expect was Africa to actually beat out Oceania and South America, I guess that is all thanks to their new Supertall which is up there with the tallest in the world. I did think Europe would probably be 3rd as it does have some pretty major modern sksycrapers in London, Warsaw, Frankfurt and Moscow.
@@vincentxie3090 The sky tower is a Tower not a building, it is the tallest structure in Oceania and was for a long time the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere, however not a building so Q1 despite being slightly less tall takes the spot.
@@thecentralbusinessdistrict231 I see, so a long time ago, the Sky Tower used to be the tallest structure in Oceania and the Southern Hemisphere. But when the Q1 Tower completed in 2005, it became the tallest building, even though it is slightly shorter than the Sky Tower, taking the spot
Forget the skyline the second largest in England is based on population and Birmingham is threefold more than Manchester it is also the biggest county council in Europe a lot of people don’t realise,most big cities have nice areas and not so nice areas but if Manchester joined with Liverpool it still wouldn’t be larger than Birmingham
Yeah I think it is a lovely little skyline and despite its “lack of height” (if you can call it that) it really looks quite impressive and gives off a great vibe. Cheers, thanks for watching
My mistake, I was aware of these buildings, added them to the old skyscraper database Emporis back in the day, however totally missed it, sorry about that, will include it in a revised version.
This comment has to be trolling. Firstly New Zealand has never had any sort of conflict with America. Secondly Christchurch is not the only city in New Zealand and does not have New Zealand’s tallest building, Christchurch was totally destroyed by a series of massive earthquakes 13 years ago destroying 90% of the cities tall buildings leaving us with only a handful as shown in the video. The tallest building in New Zealand is over 50 floors, which don’t get get me wrong still isn’t huge huge by international standards, however look at Wellington for example, for its population it has more high rises than any city in America up to its size.
Ahaha yeah you are dead right, only in Dubai indeed. Even #2 I believe is around the 30th tallest supertall in the world, even that in a city is incredibly impressive, but then of course there is the Burj Khalifa.
Yeah it’s crazy aye! Even the change from Leeds to Liverpool to Birmingham Manchester is massive, it’s a bit like here in New Zealand really scales up from 5th biggest - biggest.
But for me I think Brummes buildings look nicer than Manie's, they just look better designed and they give off bigger city vibes that Manchester's ones do. And they give off an american kinda style as well.
Hey, man. love this. Hey can u do an updated one with the new Verizon office building along the Bishop quay area, it's about 10 stores tall I think. It was meant to be 15 stores but when covid happened it changed it's plans and made only 10 stores instead, cheers my brother.

Although u did say at least 2 new ones right! Well in that case then there has been two new ones like the 10 story Verizon office building and the 7 stores rugby museum on O'Connell Street. Cheers 👊

Manchester is bigger than Birmingham if you don't take into account historic parishes. Birmingham has the largest council in Britain, whereas Manchester Council's parish area is not that big at all. It's even smaller than Sheffield because that takes in large swathes of the countryside too, which is severely misleading in the 21st century. Manchester, by comparison, is heavily urbanised. It's developed well over 10 miles out, you need a motorway to get to far suburbs as you would in London, and has 10 boroughs but aren't counted in Manchester proper. Heck, even Old Trafford isn't even counted 2.5 miles from the city centre!
How do you come to the conclusion that the City of Manchester is larger than the City of Birmingham, you need to do a bit more reaerch and Parish areas have nothing to do with it, it is the area of a City and it's population size, the City of Manchester is only 58sq nikeas in area compared to the City of Birmingham having an area of 150sq miles, the population of the City of Manchester is only 580,000 citizens where as the population of the City of Birmingham is 1.5 million citizens and Birmingham City Council is the largest City Council in Europe making Birmingham the official second largest and 2nd City of the UK, the City of Manchester is the 8th largest City in the Uk. You mentioned Countryside, well on the edge of Sutton Coldfield arera of Birmingham arround Minworth and Peddimore there is loadsof Country side and Farms with in the Birmingham Boundry with some areas at least 12 miles from the City Centre and the Bourghs you are on about do not exist as in the City of Manchester like Birmingham they are districts and don't bother to bring Greater Manchester into it as it is not a City but a Metropolitan County Council and does not have bourghs as the areas with in Greater Manchester are made up of independant Towns and Cities as Greater Manchester is just an adminiterative body that looks after Transport, Fire, Ambukance, Police, Airport and some roads.
Stop this, the only other American city that has more buildings than Chicago is New York. Outside of that no other American city skyline is on Chicago’s level.
