I'm a UK-based digital editor and booktuber who loves SFF. My top authors right now are Robin Hobb and Ken Liu and there's many, many more I adore (just see the videos on my channel to find out more!)
If you want to send me a small press/self published or indie published books (I generally only accept SFF) then email me using the email below. Please include a cover image, your blurb, and why you think the book fits with my channel and tastes.
I haven't read this one but I do plan to get it at some point because I loved the Greatcoats series, so I'm curious to see what I'll think about this one.
I’d say the romance is secondary to everything else by quite a way, I don’t love romance usually as I say, but I liked how the relationships were handled here.
Oooh yes, my cozy fantasy loving heart is bursting with joy right now. Whether I end up having to judge this as a finalist or not, I am 100% going to make sure I read this asap. It sounds uniquely delightful 🤩
Oh, that's so exciting! I think that's one of the great things about SPFBO, how it can elevate books that haven't gotten a lot of attention or reviews.
omg thank you so much. Book 2 is coming I promise! I really appreciate your thoughts on everything! I have to give credit to Tycho Dwelis who is both my illustrator and cover artist (and also an author), I unfortunately cannot draw to save my life. haha. Thank you!
Thank you so much for confirming the illustrator, they’re awesome and I really do think they enhanced your writing! Loved this, truly! ❤️❤️ I hope everyone buys it asap!!
I'm glad I found thus video, here's some back story: About the time you posted this video , I read this series. I was 14, young, and in love with the fantasy genre. Now here I am, a decade later, with a broken leg and bored out of my mind. I decided to break out this book series. I've mostly forgotten the plot since it's been so long, so I decided to RU-vid this book, and your video came up. It's still absolutely crazy that I remember most of these characters now and the story throughout the series since I've heard your review. Thank you! Much love from California from this currently crippled nerd. (Edit) Now that I've looked at your RU-vid profile and see you have over 1.2k videos and some fantasy book reviews, I'm now subscribed. I didn't know I'd be on the book review side of RU-vid, but here I am. Thanks for all the content! Now I have stuff to binge while I heal!
So I have some great news for you: if you enjoyed Lily's writing then she's actually got TWO other books out under her other pen name, Caitlyn L. Strauss-The Night City and The Night People are the first two books in her Nocturnum Files series. Unlike the books under her Lily C. Strauss pen name (which fall closer to M/M paranormal romance), the books under Caitlyn L. Strauss are really murder mystery detective procedurals in urban fantasy setting...or maybe it's sci-fantasy or straight up sci-fi, depending on how you want to define an alternate universe with a parallel species of nocturnal humans with psychic powers. (Disclosure: I am in Lily/Caitlyn's writing group so I've read all her books under both pen names and as someone who reads mostly epic fantasy and virtually no romance, I've found the Nocturnum Files books to be more aligned to my usual reading preferences.)
I love Wizard's First Rule and the rest of The Sword of Truth series as well. It is a fantastic fantasy journey and I have read and re-read the series several times. I love the characters and their journey to overcome adversity and the growth they have throughout is very cathartic. It seems one of the first fantasy series to take the genre into dark places and I appreciate the risks it took going there. But there are moments of love and inspiration that very much counter balance the dark parts and I thought it was a good balance that the author handled well. 10/10 series for me and I hope more people discover it and give the series a chance. Thanks for your time! Cheers!
