My name is Alexa Assimos, licensed therapist as well as certified drug and alcohol abuse counselor. I have a passion for psychology and self improvement. This channel discusses the psychological perspective of every day struggles we commonly face, and how our perception and attempt to overcome them can influence our mental and physical health. We'll process common mental hurdles with up to date research and concepts grounded in psychology.

New videos come out every Sunday at 9AM CT, starting January 24th, 2021!

Set your alarm, subscribe, and start your week with reflection.

Self improvement begins with self awareness.

Thank you, I'm so glad this is being addressed, as it usually gets dismissed as "it was ages ago, you're not at school anymore, get over it". I don't know if I was bullied per se, but I was so unpopular that not even my friends liked me. For 5 years I got name-called, shoved, laughed at, tie-pulled, had all sorts of things thrown at me, had rumours spread about me, and had comments made that were so nasty that even other bullies called them out on it. But it was usually a different person each time, so there wasn't much I could do besides take it. That was over 10 years ago, and I'm still in therapy trying to heal. I find it near impossible to feel happy naturally. I internalised the opinions of so many people so much, I feel like I can only see myself through their eyes and I've not managed to shake that off yet. My experiences in school have led to severe anxiety, anger issues, IBS, substance abuse, SH, trust issues, and too many issues to even list. I have been through trauma that is seen as "valid trauma", but it doesn't affect me anywhere near as much as being a social outcast in high school. I hope I get to heal one day and finally feel happy.

I hate bullies the absolute most, up there with predators and war criminals. Absolutely vile creatures. To anyone reading this, know that you are and will always be better than them. Live your best life and get out of their shadow to show the world that they are nothing.

I drink every weekend Friday and Saturday. I don’t ever open 1 beer unless I plan on drinking 5 more with it AT LEAST 5 more, it’s either get drunk or don’t drink at all. Typically I drink almost a 12 pack a night or 8 beers and a few shots. I don’t drink liquor but if a friend has and ONLY drinks liquor I’ll take shots with them every other round in addition to my beer once I’m drunk I keep drinking just to maintain the drunkness until I fall asleep. The next day I just sleep in and wake up feeling fine.

As a kid my cousins on each side of the family would bully me and now they’ve changed and are these super confident “perfect” people in everyone’s eyes and I forgive them but I have such low self esteem and feel like a loser. I stopped going to family events because I can’t be myself there and everyone acts like I’m being selfish but its mainly cause I’m uncomfortable and the low self esteem, it’s crazy cause I feel like my cousins don’t think they bullied me and sometimes that makes me question my experience and wonder if I was the problem. I genuinely have lost trust in most people and struggle to go out but I do my best to work on it and I do everything in my power to enjoy and love life.

I binge when i dont get my morning walk in i also have to follow a restrictive diet due to health problems along with having an inconsiderate housemate fortunately there is an opportunity to move away from that situation. Im quite underweight but the weight was only fat and negatively impacted health. Have bone structure of child. Im 5.7 stone currently. Any excess of fat has led to cancer scares so cant have fat or sugar i just eat protein and carbs and small amounts of fat proportional to small frame. Due to noise pollution housemate blaring radio all day causing loss of appetite the housemate has schizophrenia and cannot tolerate headphones. weight gain has been slow. Any time i have had excess fat on my body i have jad cancer cells and i now have body fat of 8 percent and reducing to 3 the lowest a lady can survive. My feet hurt as theres no padding on the underside anymore but I wont eat food with much fat any more. In my womb i was beyond humiliated and terrified id photographed fat rolls from a series of nighttime binges id haf. Theres no room for error. No room for takeaway. I will end up in a box if i eat more than what a 7 year eats. Ive the frame of 7 year old destroyed by anorexia therefore i xant eat like an adult. My nutritional needs reflect a childs not an adults. Obviously when my metabolism speeds up calories will go up buts fats will stay down The macros i need are 25g of fat daily and 7g sat fat basically nothing. I cant buy anything processed as it would exceed those. Every time i saw fat rolls i had bad news off the doctor or osteoporosis. I may lose a couple of pounds of fat and then lean gain as i cant afford to die. I reversed the osteoporosis. Its good now. Currently can lift 40kg. Doctors confirmed i had a stunted bone structure when i was 31 i have alter clothes as i have a 21 inch waist and 30 hip. I walk seven hours a day as my metabolism is slow as i starved for so long my bmr is about 1400 with my 1000 cals in total. Thats why im alive. Very occasionally ill binge on food in teh kitchen. Once i found food wrappers from takeaway in my bag but fortunately they werent mine. MY body is very prone to cancer there fore i dont believe it is safe it is helathy for it to have fat on it.

I was bullied throughout primary and secondary school. I also got bullied by strangers on the bus when I was 16-17 years old. I never said anything when I was being bullied, and I never told anyone, and now im having to deal with the trauma to move forward. Im 38 now and in councilling, and I didn't realise how much bullying in my past has affected my life. Im happy im in councilling, its helping me thinking differently about myself.

What is really sad about childhood bullying is that not only does it affect you as a child but often it affects you alot into adulthood. You may develop addictions, mental health issues or lack of personal development. Education or finding your dream job may be too challenging because of your mental health.

I have had moderate low iron for long time, and my vit D is severe low as well. Also, I have had so many burdens, setbacks, and too many disappointment that make me feel depressed all the time. I have not seen the doctor. But does that mean that I have to work on my low iron and vit D to get higher before going to doctor?

I spotted this within one year of being married and then did some deep diving and realized all 4 years of my relationship has been like this. I’m also neurodivergent so that makes everything even better. So with that being said, I’m finally getting the help I need so I can get out of this with the least amount of damage done.

Is it possible that a person suffering from NPD is constantly seeking and testing for the unconditional love they did not receive as a child? And, when they do not find it in a relationship, they move on? If one finds unconditional love in a relationship and continues to test, maybe they are a sociopath? A fine line between the two, I suspect.

General apathy and compassion fatigue. Someone is mad at me, idc. At this point I’m used to being ashamed and misunderstood from mental health and how that may affect my behavior and thoughts. Oh something major just happened, I don’t have the mental energy to worry about anyone else…something is always happening

One thing after the next is happening with family. And they’re the only ppl I know bc I’ve been isolated from anyone else and I’m shy. So atp I don’t even respond (apathy) as a form of protecting myself, and being used to dysfunction

Five weeks sober, no rehab, no drs. I had an ego death on psilocybin and quit cold turkey that day. No withdrawal symptoms either. Just a happier, healthier, fuller life. I know things aren’t going to be sunshine and rainbows forever, treating myself with the respect I deserve is going to make everything a hell of a lot easier.
