Graduated and retired from D1 athletics in 2018 after 16 years of my sport… still trying to figure out what to do now! They definitely don’t prepare you for this when you’re in school!
thank for this great issue. watching my kids play sports was one of my favorite pastimes. its tough on the parents when the careers end. that said all the memories remain special.
This is so true after college basketball ended it was hard nobody makes it to the nba and it’s so hard it to stop playing something you been doing since you were little but you have to
Great talk. This transitions for student-athletes can be tough and truly have no idea when their career may end. I was doing marketing for the wrestling team my last year of college and the one guy was a senior and he was set to win or at least have a good shot at winning nationals and a day after he got there, it got shot down due to covid. Truly unfortunate and he was devastated.
No wonder why former athletes can be kind of sour lol. They have to deal with a lot of pressure and I think this is an interesting topic to study, especially from a communication perspective because the media is the one putting that pressure in the first place.
Hey Alexa, I am looking for former athletes to come on to my podcast to talk about life after sport. Would you be interested in discussing an appearance on my podcast?
