I owned Elacs debut and unifi floorstanding speakers. I sold all those after got Bro3. Elacs well balanced, laid back, smooth, sounded boring compared to Bro3. Bro3 are lively, clearer, better imaging, real tone. Bros alive, Elacs too laid back, relaxed tone good for jazz, easy listening, but boring for rock, any lively music.
. How is it the Italians didn't find a way to wrap at least one side with Tuscany Leather? Oh well, looks like a pretty sweet integrated anyway. I think that's duel copper toroids I see stacked in the picture. Very nice as well. As far as drive any speaker powerful, well 150 watts is 150 watts. However, I believe that punchy-ness you refer to is more a function of output capacitance which this integrated has in abundance. My guess from the picture is 40K picofarads per side. That's nice. Outstanding choice of a product for show-n-tell. Very interesting and although expensive, there certainly seems to be considerable value here. Well done, it wasn't another ChiComm $79 class D. I've just already ordered one today (multiregion modded which is even better) The only problem with this player from what I've seen and read is the picture freezing in some 4K discs after a while. But there is a trick to avoid that here on YT. I can't tell the title of the video but you can find it and most commenters seem very happy about that. Although I must say is unnaceptable for a company like Sony not included a darn display in the front. That's ridiculous because they are cheap... unless no display means faster loading, which I seriously doubt. Thanks for the review.
Enjoyed this video! I've been rather taken with Fritz Heiler’s Carbon 7 SE Mk 2 standmount speakers. They have a uniquely simple crossover that make them amenable to many kinds of amps and just sound, well, lusciously musical. I've recently upgraded my older Bravia to a nice new LED 4K bravia. Then upgraded to a Sony receiver as well. Now I'm looking to upgrade my older Sony bluray player to this one. I tried a 4K UHD dvd and my 4K Bravia only gives 1080. I contacted Sony and spent a good hour + with them trying every possible option and still nothing. So they're making arrangements to have me send it back and they'll replace it. Hopefully with one they tested to make sure and send me the new one.
Audio Physic speakers are absolute gems to me, not praised enough in the industry. I have the Spark iii from the Joachim Gerhard era - they're around 20 years old now and still fill me with joy and surprise. I have no burning desire (or itch!) to replace them at all, and they look simply gorgeous. The nicest looking/sounding speakers I've ever owned. If you can find a pair from the early days (the tempos, sparks, virgos are all absolutely ace!) you can get them for a steal, a few hundred Euros over here in Europe anyway (they originally sold for a few thousand). With the right amp, they will knock your socks off :-)
Thank you, interesting to hear your thoughts. I do have an older RX 1030 model, and I am just now finding all the interesting features. So thank you very much for your review.
The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...
Ironically I have listen to all of these, I think the Triangle hit the ball out of the park with sonics... You need to do more careful equipment matching with these, Tube is the way to go. KEF Meta R3 are on sale now and both of these speakers are at the 2K mark. The Meta's R3 are more forgiving, the Triangles are more detailed and revealing, the Triangles get the big nod to looks.
Better than the R3 Meta? I've owned Audio Physic speakers before in my life (and KEF speakers as well) and that was a bolt from the blue surprise to me. Right now I'm thinking about these, the R3 Metas, the Quad Revela-1, or the Dali Rubicon2. Listening mostly to hotel-bar jazz (Oscar Peterson, Cyrus Chestnut, Tommy Flanagan, Beegie Adair), at low to moderate volume, with lots of off-axis listening. Very occasional use as home theater main speakers. Room is poured concrete, about 320cm across the front and 800cm deep, with full width, full height curtains front and back. Priorities are non-fatiguing but still PRAT'y enough sound to keep me engaged, great parts (especially crossover) and a relatively easy load. Can pair with a REL T5/X eventually if necessary. Any thoughts? Which speaker should I be leaning toward? Or is there something else that fits my requirements better?
It really depends on your taste in sound. R3 Meta would give you a better amount of sparkle and detail white the Classic 3 would have more warmth in the midrange and more bottom end bass. For your type of music you described, both would be great but I would lean towards the R3 meta. Cheers.
Kef R3 are at the very top of my list for an endgame set of speakers. I've got it narrowed down to either the R3 Meta or Harbeth compacts. (similar price range) The Kefs are the technically superior speaker, but Harbeth's have an old school smoothness that measurements don't do justice to. Tough choice ... I'm sure I'd be more than happy with either. Currently loving my KEF q150s ..
Hello Sid, do you still have your IOTA Sa3? If so, have you had any problems with it? I got mine in Jan. 2021 (and use it a lot/ like it/ great performance to price). Recently I saw a RU-vid video of a guy with IOTA's whose Cap's failed, he said they are of poor quality, with a life span of about 2000 hours (he had them replaced with better ones). Anyway, I checked my IOTA and sure enough, the Cap's are showing a similar "bulging" to that of his video."
Hi Sid. Please help. Could I use a Fezz Audio Titania Integrated stereo with KT88 tubes with Revival Audio Atalante 5 or SF Sonetto V speakers? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the review Sid! Kind of hard to find info on these.. Do you know what type of components are used in the crossover? (Poly/electrolytic caps, air/iron core inductors, sandcast resistors, etc?) Also, do you know if it's a cast or stamped steel basket on the woofer? I've read it's a cast basket but saw a teardown video of a Classic 5 with stamped steel basket woofer..
